  • I miss the old Homestead layout. They turned it into just another one of those cookie cutter race tracks, when they added that extra banking.

  • 1.000.000 Thank you. This was amazing.

  • I wouldn't want to see Michael coming in MY rearview, either!

  • man i miss this racing!!!!!!!!!

  • What lawsuit was Paul Page on about?

  • @DieKolkrabe

The Government decided that Tobacco companies didn't have the same rights as other companies to advertise their product in sports, so teams like Kool racing, Marlboro Penske, the Winston team in drag racing, (who were kicking butt at the time) all lost their sponsorships as a result. For some reason NASCAR was able to keep Winston until the end of the 2003 Season.

  • The Master Settlement Agreement?

IIRC as part of it, the companies could only advertise in one sport (so for instance Ferrari couldn't run Marlboro liveries at the US GP as Penske ran them in CART) also.

I had to laugh at this though:

"[Cigarette companies sponsor] specific racing cars or teams (Smokin Joes, Skoal Bandit, Marlboro, Kool, Kodiak)"

    Spot the mistake anyone?

And yes, Bernstein was kicking butt

  • @DieKolkrabe

    Yeah, that thing

  • Dontcha LOVE lawyers?

Ironically it likely brought about the unified IndyCar series though, as Penske switched for the sole reason to run their Marlboro liveries at the Indy 500.

(And the cars look great with the Team Penske livery as well)

yeah, sometimes i wish Champ Car had won out because i loved the look of the spec car they ran at their final long beach race.
