There is no danger of track being fast if it properly designed. Retaining wall at the exit from high G turn was too short and Steel Support Beams were straight on the way of possible centrifugal trajectory. It the wall would be 10 meters longer, he would be alive today.

Olympic tracks have to be constructed less fast than the track at Whistler.

Athletes like Kumaritashvili who face an artificial luge track perhaps only 5 times a year, should not be allowed to compete on such a fast track. It was not the first rough crash on olympic luge. In 2006, a Brasilian luger horribly broke his legs in the finish curve of Cesana. The tracks are simply too fast for non-professional lugers.
