  • 1:24-2:10 reminds of all my band friends for some reason

  • I want to play this so badly. :S

  • I have the sax solo and it is so much fun to play but it is too short. It should be longer like jazz solo those are also fun:)

  • I have the sax solo:) it is freaking awesome but I definitely like jazz solos better. This song is only played well if the softs(p)are soft

In comparison to the louds(f) and in some parts (ffff) 😏

  • clarinet part... fun! haha

  • People who dislike this, are you ok?

    it's REALLLYY fantastic!!!!

I'm playing piccolo, it's difficult to play it.

people who dislike this, you don't know how difficult this is.

  • I knocked the Gong over on this song during Competition... -__-

  • We played this last year, Mr. Hazo even came in to listen to us! he autographed my part haha.

  • what time signature is this song in?? I'm guessing 7/4 but it doesn't fit in some moments...

  • @Holycrap27 from what I remember...

2 measures of 3:4, one measure of 2:4, measure of 3:4, measure of 4:4, measure of 3:4 (intro)

    then... 7:8, 2:4, 7:8, 2:4, 7:8, 2:4, 4:4, 6:8, 7:8, 2:4, 7:8, 2:4, 7:8, 2:4, 4:4, 6:8

    then... 2 measures of 7:4, 2 measures of 4:4, 3 measures of 7:4

then... 6 measures of 3:4, one measure of 2:4, one measure of 5:4, three measures of 3:4, one measure of 4:4

    piano/trio part - all in 3/4

crescendo to 24 more measures of 3/4

  • @Holycrap27 1:50 is 7/8, 2/4, 7/8, 3/4, 7/8, 4/4, 6/8, 7/8, 2/4, 7/8, 3/4, 7/8, 2/4 (snare triplet part) 3 measures of 3/4, (back to part from beginning) 2 measures of 3/4, one measure of 2/4, two measures of 3/4, one measure of 4/4. (percussion out) all in 3/4 until the melodic line comes back in with the 7/8 to 2/4 stuff and right before the next crescendo moment there is a 5/8 bar (which sucks to play). Then 3/4, 2/4, its 3/4 for the rest of the piece.

  • @Holycrap27 So to answer your question, the piece is actually mainly based in 3/4

  • this piece is so live

  • ugh... was about to play this piece... then our band director decided not to play it cuz he didnt like the style >_< i had the sax solo too....

  • In Wind Ensemble:

    *teacher hands out piece*

Me: "Oh my God! We get to play ride!?"

    *Screams with joy*

    *looks at the bassoon part*

"Wait.. What? But... this... is... easy"

    "DAMN YOU, HAZO!!!!"

  • @joshalarcon12 I was in that band! :D it was a fun piece to play, the sax solo was extremely difficult tho :/ but man! It was an amazing experience!

  • Who heard this piece at the ATSSB concert convention this pass saturday? .... the symphonic band played it exactly the same, except for the sax solo. lol xD

  • @joshalarcon12 saxes always saucing up the runs

  • this piece is extremely difficult!

  • awesome piece!!!!

  • Conducting Ride, and Arabesque is an amazing experience! I love conducting those songs during contest. DRUM MAJOR'S RULE!! :D

  • Songs have lyrics, guys

  • @ItsallaboutTrevor words limit the moving power of a piece of music <3

  • @AllMuttGirl that's a really dumb thing to say

  • The Timpani part for this was one of the best I have ever had, but Bulgarian Dances takes the cake, or undertow because of the 32 measure Timpani solos :D

  • This absolutely makes me think of some sort of big boss battle happening in one of the older Final Fantasy games. Anyone else feel that way??

  • @Samouflage Oh my god YES.

  • Comment removed

  • Sometimes I like to look up song like these and pretend I'm conducting them XD

  • @largeaquaticmammal Haha me too!!

  • @largeaquaticmammal lol i do that allll that time :P

  • @largeaquaticmammal IM NOT ALONE! <3

  • @largeaquaticmammal Everyone in my 50+ member band has been found conducting at one point in the year; however, it is more to arabesque than anything else. But we all do it from time to time.

  • ikr! im a freshman too! the song is GREAT!!

  • Trumpets.

  • I played this sax solo. Made my senior year amazing!

  • Bass/snare, ride, china, and piccolo was such a great combination

  • one of my favorite songs to play just because it is SO LOUUDD!!! woo!! :D

  • Omg the atssb allstate band is playing this and the tuba part is crazy XD lol it reminds me of something a marching would play

  • @MegaTubamaster dude i love the tuba partsim goin to allstate as a freshman!!!!!!

  • @TubaOV95

  • @MegaTubamaster lol my high school marching band's show had Ride in it my freshman year.

  • horn part is sexiest in song besides bass and snare/china and ride cymbal part together

  • quadruple forte for the last note.........loudest note i ever played on a trumpet

  • Loved playing this song!!! :D

  • YEAH ONLY OBOE! i get the solo but my friend said the trumpets plugged their ears D,: god i suck!

  • Timpani part in this song is sooooo great

  • Did anyone else here a sneeze right after 1:52?

  • @MrDillonpickle lol ya!!

  • Trumpets FTW!

  • For some reason, this music makes me think it would be the theme for either a cheesy cop show, or an anime.

  • rimshot at 2:14 <3

  • @hahaha442 It's actually a gawk block hit, but they sound close to the same. And yes, it does sound awesome

  • @drumsforever101 it is actually a rimshot :P well it is in this recording anyway. the split second of noise after it gives it away

  • @Bobby12349876 In the music it says gawk block though. The band who recorded this wanted to be original I guess haha

  • I could easily imagine this being field show music for some reason... XD

  • I'm probably about to become the best bari sax player in the world. Check this:

    1. I've never even played one note on a bari sax and i have to play this piece

    2. I also have to play all 12 scales in order to play this song

    3. The instrument is currently broken and needs to be fixed, and the deadline to enter symphonic band is fast approaching.

  • @highwire97 you gonna lock yourself in a room for a week and practice? lol

  • @drumsforever101 probably XD

  • @highwire97 those are requirements to audition at my school period, you got some work to do ;)

  • @highwire97 well man if you've been playing the Alto it's really not that huge of a transition, the biggest thing to do is to just build up your embouchure. Well atleast that's how it was for me when i switched over this year.

  • sounds like rush all the way through...

  • who recorded this and when and where?

  • my band mastered this in one 2 hour rehearsal. (((:

  • @jheaaitschris Umm How

  • @leask8r well, i was in a high school wind ensemble, and we only had 4 rehearsals, so it was like the best kids in band. and through the first 3, we had no idea, how to do it, but then on the very last rehearsal, we broke it down, and got it down

  • 240P we meet again...

  • 3 people were 3rd trombone and still failed . haha

  • I'm in wind ensemble 2nd chair french horn! Enjoyed playing this piece!

  • Awesome Song!

  • 3 people got first and failed.

  • our band is hoping to open with this at festival :D

  • @lexielikesthecheddar Good luck with that!

  • thats quite the trumpet part... I wanna play this!! I'm trumpet, and he really likes to feature the trumpets.

  • I loved this piece in High School, though it was frustrating being a bassoon player and not being able to be heard amongst everyone else xD

  • @mmJellybean how was the bassoon part for this song? I want to get my band director to get this piece, but i don't wanna pick a song I'm going to want to play.

  • @barimusicman It's not that bad actually. I just got it today, and got through it with few mistakes. We did go a little under-tempo though.

  • @barimusicman As long as time signatures changing constantly doesn't bother you, that is. Haha.It changes times almost every measure for most of the piece. There are about 61 different time signatures in 170 measures.

  • @barimusicman the bassoon part is hard, just like for the rest of the parts....it's going to take a lot of practice, but if you get some down, it's fun to play

  • @mmJellybean Thats just the life of a bassoonist. It's how we roll.

  • Oh this song. My high school's band regularly played level 5 music, and my teacher still ended up giving up on this song. Shame too, because it would have been so awesome.

  • 2:13

  • Yea for playing euphonium but playing clarinet parts haha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love it

  • That sax solo is a BITCH to work up. Bad memories... or good. I don't know. :)

  • @ODUDRMR Where do you go to school? We might be classmates...

  • I HATED this piece in HS. I was the lone piccolo player lol.

  • I get to play the saxophone solo!!!

  • @maderchica12 You should record yourself playing it so I can year it!! Our band sucks so we never get to hear it played.. Well. Haha Our low brass is so bad it makes you wanna shove needles in your ears

  • @maderchica12 you lucky ducky! except i'm not sax i'm a clarinet. but still!! :D you must be very proud XD my wind ensemble played this last year when i was still in middle school. ._. i'm a little freshman in wind ensemble XD

  • @maderchica12 same here high five

  • i saw this played at WVU Honors band, i was in another band so i didnt get to play this one :/

  • My senior year of high school I had the privilege to play this piece when Samuel Hazo conducted an honors band in my region. Being able to play this piece under his direction was hands-down one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had as a musician. This is still one of my favorite band pieces of all time.

  • I love the snare part on this. I've played it several several times and it never stops being fun. :)

  • Damn song! Who told you to be so awesome!!?!?!

  • Ths song was really fun to play on trumpet :)

  • @Epicbattlefan Definitely was, but first time my chops were dead. o.o

  • played 1st trumpet part on this song. First time I played it I cried in pain it was so hard.

  • I remember when we played this piece last year, we had only had it a week or so and we had the honor of Mr. Hazo himself coming in to conduct one of our rehersales, and he was shocked to hear we had only had it a week for we were playing it so well. It was a great piece, we scored a 1 at festival with it. Go Vicksburg Big Red Machine!!

  • i have to play the sax solo for my concert, lets see if it sounds like this by then o.O

  • That Sax solo.... DAMN!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • this song isn't really that hard to play..... the song plays itself. lol

  • hey everyone heres a march of this its called cruise control it was done by MacArthurs Jammin Generals /watch?v=uVe4DfWoPOY its only in the first and last movement the video was uploaded wierd so theres a sound delay but hope you enjoy oh and we got all 1s! :))

  • ユーチューブには無いと思ってた…

    日本語で検索しても出てくると良いのに…

  • Man that Sax solo...

  • WHAT ARE THE TRUMPET 1 NOTES IN Bb ????

  • God bless that saxophone player

  • Any saxophone who's played this, what are the notes? I wannem baaad please message me them

  • Oh man, I loved playing this. I was one of very few people who could actually cut the repetitive sixteenth notes without blending them together into one pulsating note. I can't play that sax solo though...

I especially enjoyed the near-blasting at the end. It is freaking awesome to be allowed to play as loud as you'd like.

  • Samuel R Hazo says "f**k standard time!!!!" loool

  • Had the alto solo and loved it! Had a standing ovation

  • We played this in my Wind ensemble after playing 2 slow and quiet pieces. When we started the song, i think the audiance was literaly pushed back 3 feet

  • @BobbyRancher lol....

  • @TheDrummingAsian my schools marching band is playing this for the 1st movement. :D

  • @Mrbr0w ha mine too! :D

  • Bass trombone! Oh yea.

  • 3 people got 3rd part and still can't play it.

  • Voices of the sky is by far the best Samuel Hazo piece, I'm from New Zealand and played it a couple of years ago in my 7th form year

  • I seriously think the last and highest note played by the trumpets should be a high F, not a C. F as in Concert Eb, and it's the one above the current C played.

  • my awesome band director arranged part of this along with some original stuff and its part of opener and its gonna be awesome!!!

  • @nazarito97 yes but he cut out a lot of the good parts -_-

  • Just put this one on the field as our opener. I get to e the one conducting it, and it's easily our hardest song. The music is kinda kickin our butts, but my friend rips hat sax solo. In all it is going to be 2:30 minutes and 30 sets of pure drum corp styled sexiness!!

  • @MuffinMan095 I'd LOVE to be in Pit playing this. and this is one HELL of an opener. Good choice!

  • lolzz

  • Hell = marching and playing this.

  • @AshMoney95

Did that this summer. It was actually pretty fun

  • @AshMoney95 We're using this and asphalt cocktail by john mackey, not easy at all

  • @AshMoney95 i went through it too. I feel your pain tremendously :(

  • @AshMoney95 got a competition this weekend? States?

  • @TrupsLP I wish. Sadly this year isn't a state year for us.

  • @AshMoney95 tough luck because i think I saw your band perform at morris knolls or one of those competitions

  • @AshMoney95

It's been done before, too! Props to all you poor bastards out there who had/got to do it.

  • @AshMoney95 I marched with Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps this summer and this was our closer. I agree it was hell but it was fun too!

  • @TheSammywammybar Ah so it was revolution that marched this! We were in the Alamodome waiting to get in and we heard this piece and didn't know who it was.

  • @AshMoney95 but wouldn't that be such an adventure?? i would LOVE to try and play this fro marching band. or at least see some like professional marching band do this in a show

  • @dancingmonkey1996 My high school marching band marched this in our opener. Multi-meter marching is the devil to put together.

  • @AshMoney95 I've seen it done... It was quite impressive to say the least.

  • our middle school played this!

  • We're playing this song for the first part of our marching band show music. It sounds really really awesome!! haha I'm going to fight for that alto sax solo!!! :D

  • I loved playing this song in band :D

  • I was a freshman in highschool when I played this, I just graduated, and when I was moving, I found my copy of this. It brought back alot of memories. :)

  • this song has the most epic sax solo ever

  • Played this masterpiece at the biennial SYF competition back in high school in 2005. Still remember the blanked faces of the competitors sitting below the stage. We secured the gold obviously :)

  • Marching Band Show:

Roller Coaster, Up, Go, and Ride. This should be fun. :)

  • I Love the euphoniums!!!!!!! Theyre what make this song awesome!!!!!!

  • This is intense!

  • Dear Samual Hazo, welcome to my Top 3 Composer's List! :)

  • this year my band is using ride and in flight for this marching season. it should be interesting

  • @xxmatt1996xx Which Marching Band?

  • @xxmatt1996xx North?

  • @xxmatt1996xx Dude that's epic i wish our marching band did that

  • @xxmatt1996xx lol. my band is using Ride by Hazo for this season also. wat's your show called? ^_^

  • The Oboe makes this song.. Played this back in High school... Listen for the Oboe

  • Horn part is AWESOME!!!!

  • What is the time signature on this piece?!

  • @Wendypops001 It ranges from 3/4 to 3/8 there are alot of changes!!

  • @Wendypops001 I believe the time signature it follows throughout most of the song is 3/4, but it alternates a lot between that and 2/4, 4/4, 7/8, and maybe 5/8? (not entirely sure bout the 5/8).

  • @amoroger yep there is one 5/8 in it as well ;-)

  • Ride + Rush = Great combination!

    Fantastic!

  • We're using this in our marching show. I am excite.

  • 2 People don't know believe in band

  • The sax solo at 1:06 is so sexy...

  • easily hardest song i ever played in concert
