  • Lightweight parts, maybe thats what your into! lol

  • 17:33.... That's what she said...

  • Would you sell those pachmyer grips? I've been looking and they cost a little too much for what I want, I'm getting a GSG 1911 and I just bought a compensator, and a guide rod, do you think $15-$20 would be good?

  • Just curious why you prefer the Smith & Alexander over the Ed Brown?

  • @MrCleanerNash

Just my preference. I like the one piece mag wells over the two piece. Although I do have an ed brown mainspring housing on my wifes springfield.

  • hey man brand of magwell/ mainspring housing is that??? sweet set up btw

  • Good video! Can I ask you once?

I guess the S&H magwell is indeed cast.

Is the checkering molded into the casting or is it machined in?

    thanks!

  • Great vid Brother.

Yes it pisses me off to that I paid $1600 for my Raptor and it has plastic parts in it!

  • Just wanted to say THANKS for the video. I just replaced/added a Smith and Alexander magwell to my Kimber Royal Carry using exactly the instructions and worked like a charm !! Now can't wait till weekend to go shooting ;-)

  • Sweet video, awesome video quality, easy to follow, just did my Kimber Target Stainless II. Thanks for saving me money on a gunsmith. Sweet looking Kimber, those grips give it a good contrast.

  • @danielp59 You paid $1000. for an all metal framed Kimber w/ 1 small piece of plastic. I paid $900. for a H&K P30 w/ a frame thats all plastic... If Kimber jacked there price up $30.-$50. just by installing a metal main spring housing, I tell them to to leave the plastic 1 in. I've had my Kimber since 2003 w/ plenty of shots down range with "Zero" hicups and not 1 problem with the plastic main spring housing... By the way, nice job on your Kimber :)

  • Dig it man..waiting for my 1911 to come in..in the 10 day penalty box..do all 1911 main spring housings (i.e. Springfield) disassemble the same way as your Kimber?

  • @golfnomad

Springfield's are a little different. There is a take down pin you have to insert to release the spring pressure. Not that hard and it the pin comes with the gun.

  • Hey Dan, just wanted to say thank you for the video, it's great, it's something I was looking for to customize my Kimber, which is the same model by the way. I already got the parts, Ed Brown parts. My question is if replacing the magwell and mainspring housing invalidates the warranty? I know in case of any problem, you can always re-install the original, and send it to Kimber. Your help will be appreciated. THANKS

  • Nice gun dude, definitely a classy touch. Doin' some work to my Kimber Custom II right now as well. Ed Brown magwell made a huge difference. Did the same to my Para but now I gotta decide on grips!

  • @Mister19Eleven

You should check out vz grips or larry davidsons grips. They're my favorites. Thanks for the comment.

  • @danielp59 Could you explain further about why you need to change out your grips? I have a pair of standard VZ's. Does that mean I'd have to go get a fullsize if I want this extended magwell?

  • @Garuda1337

You don't have to change your grips. It just looks better. Standard grips have a bevel at the bottom of the grip. Depending on what grips you have you might not want to change them. Some vz grips are a flat cut without a bevel. Just get the magwell first. If you don't like how it looks you can change them out to grips with a mag well cut.

  • @danielp59 Gotcha. Thanks for the great tutorial.

  • Dude exactly wut I l was looking for. The MSH felt off, turned out to be plastic. Now I have the solution right here. Great job on the vid.

  • does the smith and alexander magwell fit flush? i heard sometimes with drop in magwells that it needs a little blending work before it fits perfectly.

  • @dkdoodful

if your taking about the magwell angle fitting the frames beveled magwell angle, no it does not match up perfectly. A gunsmith can do that and match the angles perfectly.

  • A gunsmith you are not. There's a nylon head on that hammer for a reason. Never whack directly on a 1911 frame/part using the metal side of a gunsmith hammer. Use the nylon side so you don't mar the frame, part etc...

  • Thanks for the video. I used it for reference as i changed mine to an Ed Brown.

  • why do you have to change the grips for a new magwell? is it just to strenghen the structure?

  • dan i got the same kimber u got i was wondering what did u use and how did u polish your barrel bushing??, by the way good vid!

  • @blazedapurp

I used mothers mag polish. It can be found at Walmart or your local auto parts store. I used a dremel to speed up thr process but it can be done by hand. It will just take a bit longer.

  • Another great video Daniel.

  • Looks really great. Why do they insist on using polymer on a steel gun?

  • Very well made video. Was easy to follow.

  • sweet video keep up the good work

  • i really like the video , the quality and the subject !

    great stuff !

( and i learn that kimber use plastic parts !!! WTF ??? )

    do more ! cya

  • @haloora

Thanks for the kind words. Makes me want to keep on posting vids. Thanks again

  • @haloora

Thanks for the complement. I know it sucks. Colt also is using plastic main spring housings on the series 80

  • that's a nice kinber man great vid
