It all tepends on the difficulty of the technique in the transcription of the song. I think beauty always makes something easy to learn though! I'm good at reading sheet music especially when I know the song but I do play it until it becaomes a part of me not necessarily struggling. I can memorize anything really except how too spell lol :P

Sheet music in my opinion is a barrier improvising a song and playing it your way by ear puts your emotions into it and opens a whole new field of piano skills avalible to you. =D (after you master playing by ear you can play a song just by hearing it)

P.S. I started piano in 1st grade and haven't played since high school. I'm now a few years into college and am picking it up again. Great analysis of the three types of players. I am a brute force player for sure. Its awful and it was the only way for me to memorize pieces. My teacher is working me how to sight read so I will be able to play a song without going over it a million times. Cheers!

sightreading is pointless(i can sightread though) , but memorizing and playing by ear is much faster. i can memorize and play songs in a half and hour. bonus= time not wasted and no flipping pages :)

well, i think you CAN read notes? try to learn some songs, by reading them. then try more. if that is done learn more songs by reading. finished? now? well, yes, learn even more songs...well, after that, there should be no songs you are able to learn anymore. then try playing them on violine. all of them. done? all of them on guitar. well, it should work, to read notes then, but you will already know all the songs in the world if this doesn't work, i will spend a lot of time in nothing :/
