actually the government does not restrict purchase of those games for use of people under the recommended age limit. its simply a process to prevent children from buying games that their parents have not given them the permission to play. if they didn't enforce that then the parents could blame the person who sold the game for not informing them that it was a certain rated game.

The ESRB doesn't rate Windows or OS software so STFU, oh and keep bitching, because if u read the xbox 360 manual's fine print u can see that the Xbox 360 is not yours at all, it belongs to microsoft and if misused microsoft can take it from u legally!

dude, it has it's purpose, psychologically speaking playing through a game with violence has more of an effect, and can lead to real life violence MORE than watching TV/Movie Violence. Don;t believe me? look up some studies. In the end kids can get these games multiple ways and will and it should be parents watching what their kids do. I'm 22 so i dont care about the ratings i'm not restricted. but when i was 13, 16 i dealt with it because i was mature and understood the reasoning for the system

The ESRBs works with the government, during a state of the state adress for my state the governor spoke about the ESRBs system and how it is as powerful as the MPAA.

the only reason some stores dont allow kids below 17 to buy games is because they have support from some family businees and follow their rules for their support and yes it is not the esrb's fault but the stores fail of being cheap and doing it for money i go to my store and they dont have support form those businesses and let me buy those games but they make me pay 3$ for buying an m rated game just because im below 17 i rather pay extra then not be able to get it so yeah

its not that big a deal in the first place kid, the label isnt that big in the first place, if your 17 and you get your games fine, ESRB for the most part, helps game businesses, if the kid sees something they shouldnt have on a "T" game parents can be led to the ESRB

Discussing The Conduit with the developers, they said that the only difference between getting an M and a T rating on the game depended on whether or not blood stuck to the walls, or disappeared after it came out. Didn't matter how much blood, just couldn't stick to walls or any other surface. This came from a personal discussion. The ESRB has ridiculous rules, and it's stupid, but there's no conspiracy. That's just ridiculous.

When I first got my original PS2 way back when I was 7, on the box there was a rated M logo. my mom understood, but I can't even imagine how many parents will confuse that as "this system contains only mature content." ;p DAMN ESRB!! oh also before it was only required by sony, microsoft and nintendo to get a rating on your game, and now it is required in New York or it cannot be sold! =(

it's either the ESRB or a government operated rating system which would probably be alot more strict on ratings or restrictions. besides, stores recieve alot of heat from the media if they sell to minors.

What are you not 17? Games are different than movies in that they immerse you in actions such as 'killing people.' It is easy to blame things such as murder and theft on games like GTA or Halo. While I don't completely agree on the ESRB, and you said it yourself-the kids just want to kill people and for that the ESRB is cracking down. Samuel, I'm sorry man but you're ranting about stuff that is really stupid on your part.

SEGA edited down "Shadow the Hedgehog" in fear that the game would be rated T.
The original game was supposed to have the aliens' blood colored red (instead of green), and the words "bitch" and "piss" in it.
If only 3 things seperate E10+ from T...wow that's horrible.
