Fairy shrimp look like upside down triops with fleshy horns and no carapace (back bit) old ok the Triop companies put them in as meat food for triops but mine aren't interested

I used "pets at home premium aquarium grave" l and my triops love the stuff I've got 4 I did have 20 but it quickly became survival of the fittest and I woke up with 6, 2 turned out to be fairy shrimp but they get on with the 4 triops

sand is the best thing to use for triops, if you want a second generation of them to live, anyways. It's way better than the tiny bit of gravel you get in the kit! It doesn't even cover the tank bottom all the way. I used sand when i first started raising triops, and now i have the same sand i had back then, all of it being happily used by the 34 generation of my triops :D

@eldindrljevic They eat hermit crab food (pellets) which have to be crushed into powder when they first hatch.

FYI, they will lay eggs in standard aquarium gravel as well. I'll have to see if I can find my video and respond to yours with it. The nice thing is, you don't even have to drain the tank and a few weeks later, you will have a new group hatch.

No it has salt in it, and even if u rinse it out for awhile all the protein that was in the sand originally will be gone. I use repti sand because its soft and triops love to use it (Have second generation using it) You can get it at local pet store and it is NOT lethal to your triops, just put it in the water that they will use for at least an hour

Yeah, looks like a male to me too, no egg sacks at the back. But its rare to get a male, the ratio i think is like 100 females for every 1 male.

You've probably got triops cancriformis they grow much slower then longitacuadus. If notthen try adding bits of raw fish and carrots instead of pellets sumtimes.

Depends on the species- the triops shown here is the most common (sold in kits), longicaudatus and lives anywhere beween 20 and 40 days. Most average around 50 days in captivity although some species (like cancriformis for example) averages 80 to 100 days.
