  • FIYAH!!

  • One of the best Roxy performances ever! Wetton and Jobson went on to form "UK".

  • WOW...I almost didn't watch this, thinking the sound reproduction would fall far from the design--but this is superior in almost all respects to what I have on vinyl. Thank you so much for posting this: it is a treasure!

  • One of my favourite songs for my favourite singer and my favourite fiddler.

  • John Wettons bass is EPIC!

  • Yeah, Wetton's playing really stands out here, he deserves the mention in the posted title. His vocals also fit well with Ferry.

Search for BRYAN FERRY Price of Love - Live 1977 on YT for more of Wetton/The Great Paul Thompson (then watch "In Your Mind" from the same tour, not for the rhythm section but the song's awesomeness).

I've watched this clip lots but today for some reason I really noticed -- sound-wise, not just sight-wise -- when Andy Mackay set his oboe down to add some keyboard.

  • The epitome of cool. I freakin love this song, always have. Reminds me of my brother swinging his daughter around and around under a tall tree. She loved it. Glad she didn't shoot off into the sky like the song

    .

    .

  • That song still does it for me, mind blowing

  • that violin blows me away without fail every time.

  • Wetton and Jobson make Roxy greater !

  • FUCK THE PEOPLE WHO DISLIKED THIS.

  • my fav all time roxy track wish it was 20 mins instead, happy memories of the 70s

  • And we now finally know the inspiration for the look for Han Solo in the Star Wars films. Thank you, Mr. Ferry!

  • Wetton really makes the song. Wow.

  • after 37 years of listening to Roxy Music, it finally came to my attention that Mr. Paul Thompson is the greatest rock drummer there ever was. Power, yet taste, constant propulsion, or fickle embellishments, depending on the song, he is there. The focus on Mr. Ferry is worthy as he is a splendid song stylist and an excellent song writer. Mr. Mackay and Mr. Manzanera are integral elements as well. So, was Mr. Eno. Mr. Jobson added nice touches. But the genius of the sound is Mr. Thompson.

  • Love seeing John Wetton perform on this one!

  • 21 people didn't walk out in style. gotta love all the cross-collaboration between roxy and king crimson. peter sinfield producing the first album (after bryan had auditioned from crimson and caught his attention); eddie jobson contributing violin overdubs to the USA album; obviously wetton touring with roxy and playing on bryan's solo albums; and let's not forget all of eno's work with fripp! obviously it didn't hurt that the two groups were both signed to EG records . . .

  • Ive gotta do a cover of this....tight and so damn awesome.

  • who is cooler than ferry?

  • @chihanontempo John Wetton.

  • wow! this song shows that when mix that classical love of music and melody with that jazzy vibe you get something special....

  • Oh god this is amazing! <3 <3 <3

  • Timeless

  • just f'n incredible

  • what a fuckin' band!

  • more genius at work

  • Dear pinkygirl1975, great answer, even better "Handle"!

Thanks burl., probably the best post on the tube!

  • No difference, just the way you play it!!! Eddie J. puts on such a clinic here, it not

only doesn't matter but the polarity kinda disappears!

    Thanks b., you're a good sport w/great taste!!

  • The difference between a violin & a fiddle?

  • @Fashizle20 None.

  • @burlearth same instrument...different genres..in general terms

  • @Fashizle20 There is no difference in the instrument it's self. The way it is played however is where the two names come from. In general fiddle is associated with country and bluegrass whereas violin is associated with rock and orchestra. In any case this song is so amazing!

  • @Fashizle20 fiddles actually have flatter bridges, though it sounds indistinguishable it supposedly makes it easier to go up and down the neck

  • @Fashizle20 you can fiddle with a violin but you can't violin with a fiddle

  • @Fashizle20 a full set of teeth!!!!

  • @Fashizle20 The tuning is pretty much the real difference, but sometimes you do have them carved out differently to provide a different sound.

  • @Fashizle20 vibrato

  • @Fashizle20 I must say, I prefere a good old fiddle.

  • As tight as you like and as complex as it can be. If i'd had been in the audience, my head would have exploded!

  • Everything everyone else said and more. That is if you think as I do that this hypnotizing music is very sensual and goes on forever like a Great feeling all over your body.

  • goose bumps

  • Garvaltwins - nails it saying the song is about s*x and whole build up. I have the video with most of their performances but this is incredible. Wetton, MacKay great on oboe,Thomason, Phil, Ferry and then young Jobson at the end takes control with Wetton. Incredible Jobson joined Roxy in 73 at the age of 18. So he is maybe 19 here. A very aggressive Roxy. Sort of answers the "Roxy was not the same without Eno: question. Amazing performance. The crowd? Hopeless.

  • I heard this song for the first time in my ol mans car when I was 3 years old. One of my very first memories. Now I am over 30 and still love it. timeless

  • SHIT HOT!

  • Danger Will Robinson

  • @burlearth The version on 'Viva!' deserves an honourable mention.

  • Wetton sounds like the Motown version of a dragster crossed with a bulldozer. Brawny sound with brains in his playing. Just way ahead of his time!

  • Jobson adds so much to what is already here.

  • been listening to crimson lately, so its neat to hear john wetton with roxy. paul thompson is criminally underrated

  • i agree, paul thompson might be the most underrated drummer in rock n' roll@newfuckingwave

  • i just want to make a cover of this song...

  • Hi, where is this performance froom? Anyone knows?

  • Bloody filthy sound from wetton .Awesome love it

  • Wow... This such a good song, with great lyrics. Just F'n awesome!!!!!

  • ROXY at their very best!

  • Now I know where Billy got the inspiration for Porcelina...

  • @chemicalkid100 they obviously had no idea of what they were witnessing. I bet they're here now going "I was there man!" Morons.

  • I've seen livelier audiences during the Canadian national anthem .

  • @sgrroiii Unfortunately that was what that period just before punk was like. Nobody fucking danced! Everybody was being way too cool to be seen dancing. Then Rotten got on TV in Manchester and shouted get off your arses and everything changed!

  • LYRICS (PART TWO OF TWO) Then: out of the blue Love came rushing in Out of the sky Came the sun Out of left field Came a lucky day Out of the blue No more pain I don't mind If it's only A passing craze Throwaway lines Often ring true If I were you I would stay For a little while If you were me Would you walk out In style?
  • LYRICS (PART ONE OF TWO) All you cares Now they seem Oh so far away All your fears I fear I once shared Now I know There's a future For all of us Not so long ago I was so scared You seemed so sad I could see Through your twisted smile So unsure Always confused Pale blue eyes Gazing down From your ivory tower Through the haze All broken and bruised
  • Holy God that was great! The rhythm section shredded, I kept waiting for Wetton's bass to catch on fire.

  • This is from their World Domination tour. I saw this tour live just out side of Washington, DC. If you have a powerful stereo and a good imagination you may understand their almost frightening power

  • @enginedog fantastic live performance at the peak of their career!john wetton is an enrichment for every band!

  • The GREAT Paul Thompson!

  • Sorry - i must have been mistaken, this live track seems to be from a Roxy Music "Musikladen" performance in 1 9 7 4 . The German public channel ARD invited them twice to play live in a "Musikladen-special", in 1973 and 1974. In the 1973 live performances we still see ENO, in the 1974 performances we see Eddie Jobson on synthesizer and violin and John Wetton on bass !

  • Among my playlists i don´t know where to file Roxy Music exactly, so i file them under 70s/80s new wave AND 60s/70s rock - though the latter is somehow unfair to such a phenomenon like Roxy Music.

Without Roxy Music we would have hardly enjoyed the riches of the 70s/80s new wave scene....and btw: This here is timeless stuff !

  • uffff... no words

  • a portentous mood swirls around this version of out of the blue, wettons bass doom laden charging the darkness. thompson pounding with verve, phil manipulating the strings, andys oboe flying through the storm and ferry the talisman, the count, of voice given form. viva roxy music! a great live video of visual and sonic power.

  • Great song. Ferry's writing style is more like Roy Wood's than Bowie.

  • at least John Wetton and Bill Bruford were able to get jobs after Fripp made Crimson "cease to exist".....poor David Cross.

  • THIS SHIT IS AWESOME

  • These ppl were so good, nice guys too

  • One of the greatest unsung songs of all time.

  • lol oboe out of no where

  • Wow, what can I say? Phil Manzanera is incredible and Andy McKay is so talented on the clarinet. Wow, the transparent violin is cool too.

I have been a fan of Roxy Music for years mostly because of Brian Eno. I love Phil Manzanera as well. Check out the music that he has done on his own - Slaughter on Fifth Avenue is just short of brilliance.

  • wow cool live act sounds like the original recording

  • how do i find this on dvd ?

  • Comment removed

  • how do i find this on dvd ? anyone please

  • @vfrett - You may try Amazon.de. At the moment only the version with both Roxy and T.Rex on it is available, it has not all the songs, no OOTB, but Amazon in Germany may have it, or some used ones, and also good old VHS. I had a look for you.Good luck!

  • Pretty wild stuff.

  • Note perfect.

  • thanks for a trip down memory lane

  • Best live version of this song. Ferry's voice is the one constant in all their work that enables the band to span the musical landscape....& they have the musicians to pull it off...RM II minus Eno=way better...I never tire of Ed Jobson's violin solo...Andy MacKay...way underrated..what a pro....like your book...Phil M...great taste/phrasing & how often is a lead guitarist such a team player/bravo... & Paul Thompson...I like your drumming better than Bonzo's. After 30+ years, still

    the best

  • Brings back some great memories.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • A lot of Roxy fans did not like the departure of ENO (as did I), but E. jobson more than made his mark on progressing Roxy too new avenue's, and his eletric violin solo on this, shows what a great musician he is....never heard anyone better that on electric violin.

    Liquid dynamite.

  • These guys were ahead of thier time.

  • Ferry has a great voice!

  • True artists at work amazing music that's what you call genius

  • Talented lot of guys gettin' together like this probably never to be experienced again. So glad I grew up on this band.!.!.!

  • they're coming to Portugal, and I'm going to be there! it will be an amazing night! Brian the coolest guy ever! it's gonna be tonight!

  • Just perfect

  • The drumming is absolutely amazing. This is music

  • This song, on Viva Roxy woke me right up!

  • Doesn't the intro sound like the chord progression of Radiohead's "Just" combined with the melodic guitar pattern of Radiohead's "Paranoid Android"?

  • Excellent video quality! Thanks for posting this great experimental Roxy-music!

  • RM redecorated the seventies. Thank Goddess !!

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!

  • i played the oboe for 8 years =D

  • Love Roxy...love this vid...but I can't help remembering a comment on this song on LastFM that said Bryan ferry made singinging like Count Dracula sound cool..LMAO!!

@ Oh surprise - isn't that the greatest lyric line ever!

@common - try Street Life...you'd never hear a gong like that chart in this day and age

  • @RAMBR0 well, I think it's the clarinette's unique power :)

  • @commongivemeanicknam

    Or the oboe.. ;-)

No offense, I'm a composer.. not a brillant one though, I guess.

  • Some of the nicest people in the world all right here where I can pull up the vid anytime I want! Its great to be alive right now. I nvr saw Roxy perform before Eno left, but for me Eddie Jobson was terrific. Not many bands came up with rifs this good, I imagine I'll be playing this song when I'm an old coot telling a teen-ager 'come 'ere listen to THIS!' when I'm hundred.

  • Everything but the kitchen sink in this track. Brilliant!

  • Wetton's bass is on fire on this song as always.

  • Superb.

  • Brilliant, brilliant and brilliant!!!!

  • can someone school me on who is playing that crazy violin thing? Is that Eno?

  • class song, but 3:12 onwards is one of Roxy's all-time high points, gives me chills everytime, amazing performance!

  • this song is musical genius

takes me on a great ride..maybe thats why bryan ferry is wearing an airline pilot uniform.

    ha.

  • @lcj1219 OMG... I was just thinking that when my eyes met your comment... I am seriously belly laughing right now!!! You're funny ;-)

  • My fav roxy music was when Eno was part of it

  • effin amazing. discovered this band in 11th grade 1985...i'm 41 now and they still rock. :)

  • Great song. Roxy got better with each record unlike a lot of bands.

  • A great performance, with Phil Thompson on fire. He gave the band balls big style. Roxy were never as good when he left. The first 4 albums are incredable, the next 4 got patchier in my view but they all had many great songs on them. They keep developing, losing fans on the way but getting other fans as well. To make 4 classic records in a row is indeed rare, I think Ferry wanted to make sell more records and thats what happened. A truely great band. Respect

  • Bryan Ferry's dressed like an airline pilot. Nice.

  • the best song ever about roxy

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! F'ING hypnotic!

  • If you were me, would you walk out in style?

  • I remember when this came out. I use to turn it to 11!...what a great tune.

  • Eddie Jobson fills the hole that Eno left to make the band a fully functioning unit that would have otherwise suffered.Jobson's playing on over dubs on Roxy Live& King Crimson U.S.A. show his greatness as a musician!

  • The violin brings me to orgasm

  • @garvaltwins batter here but it tore the top off my head for sure

  • @garvaltwins The whole song is sex and the final instrumental part is the orgasm, could it be better described this powerful, original, elegant, deep and definitive song?

  • @BlackSkyThunder YOU JUST GOT IT RIGHT!!!!!....PURE SEX AND EXPLOSIVE ORGASM!! EVEN BETTER A SPEED BOOM IN MY VEINS OF ROCK COKAINE ANDTHAI WHITE EROIN!! 29 YEARS AGO! WENT TO ER IN MILAN ,ALMOST DIE ......HE REALLY CHANGE MY LIFE....STILL ALIVE IN THE NEW WORLD...PEACE! ROXY MUSIC THE SAVIERS!!!!!!!!

  • @crisjonnn no.

  • Sonic Perfection !

  • Brilliant version, this. Txs for posting. So retro, but still cool!

  • such a phenonmenal track - thanks!

  • What a great band

    Love this tune.

  • Breath taking and perfect. Im so glad I know about this band. Theyve been a little gem that Ive only shared with a few people. I want the music all to myself

  • Excepcional performance!

  • Paul Thompson is a heck of a drummer, has my deepest respect. Listen to Viva!, he's powering it along.

  • He + Wetton = POWER!!!

  • @spiccybaby Absolutely right- Thompson's drumming is terrific on that record The power Thompson and Wetton made this the best edition of Roxy for me. Perfect foil for reeds and violin, and that guy singing!

  • @spiccybaby: The English music press called him " The Great Paul Thompson" back then !

  • @MrSKINFLICK Not wrong, mate! Back when we had a music press, although I may be being harsh :)

  • @spiccybaby:i never watched a Ruts video before - i didn´t know that they had such beefy well built hunk singer.....uuummh - i´m gettin a bit sexist i suppose.......all the different surprising sides of punk........

    .......best German wishes.......

Earthquakes: Did you ever have one over there ? (ResT of the comment in your channel.......LOL)

  • BRAVO!

  • love this song. so oracular. i wonder if anybody has sampled the beginning. it'd be great with an overlaid triplet kick beat, sort of like the way crucial conflict used that funkadelic sample.

  • ugh how very ferry!

  • God bless YOU!!! ^_^

  • that violin solo really turns me on!

  • Truly an amazing live performance!

  • Epic song!

  • This is for Marla as you came out of the blue.

  • That plexi violin sounded great in the Concertgebouw.

  • yeaaaa sick song

  • I'm not sure which I like more - Wetton's monster bass playing or Ferry's hands-in-pockets dad-dancing at the beginning.

  • I saw them live in Boston back in 77. This was the first time I ever seen or heard an electric violin. It souns so good I wonder why other bands do not use them ?

  • Frank. My guess is that after the horror of Dexy's Midnight Runners, no rock band wanted to be associated with the violin.

  • Dexy's midnight runners are not horrors. They were fantastic

  • Lol

  • Wetton's tone just kills on this!! As big and menacing as it was in 70s Crimson.

  • that electric violin is amazing i want 1 :D

  • This could be mainstream in another 20 years, considering that they're still ahead of 2009 let alone 1979

  • this and same old scene are my favorite roxy music songs. they also did a good cover of the byrd's eight miles high

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, is this not he best ever? As we approach yet another change in our lives isn't weird we look backward, perhaps for comfort.... well I look forward to Roxy Music coming back in to the main stream.

  • you'll be waiting.

  • Well, while that is doubtful, I assure you it is in my main stream of listening :)

  • @jockyboy99 yeah it seems different then what our parents went thru too.. like they just grew up and things normally change that way.. but we look back because music this time has really gone to shit. everything is a generic brand of what use to be.. like when a really good movie is made and then bollywood comes out with a movie that is an exact copy but in a really B way.. thats whats going on these days. we look back because we have nothing going for us right now music wise. god.. please chnge

  • @jockyboy99 When it happens, everyone will it's a Duran Duran reunion.

  • The electric violin blows my mind.....I think it's eddie jobson ?

  • Monster musicianship united by brilliant original songwriting - it does not get much better than this!

  • This is like my 10th Roxy Music song that I hear, And every single song I listen to is better and better and better. Among all the youtube shit I watch, I thank it for letting me find this Epic Jam! Viva Mexico!

  • SIMONE!!! VIVA MEXICO Y ROXY MUSIC!!!

  • That violin looks like something out of Clockwork Orange. This is one of those songs you wonder why you don't here on frequent rotation on the radio.

  • Fucking outrageous.

  • the hottest violin in historyou never forget it
