Sorry but to respond to the video I agree there should be drug testing. Supposedly in NY they put the substance abusers in programs and as soon as they miss an appointment or program requirements they are cut off ASAP. I work and go to school and I was given the hardest time for getting assistance for my baby and I. But the alcoholics and crackheads got their shit ASAP. It is sad and rehabilitation is a must.

Im going throught the same thing you posted about I lost both jobs last year I was only able to get stamps for 4 months once I let them know I was continuing my education I was denied I still don't work but the Lord is seeing me through but I know so many people getting handouts and sitting on their butts unemployment doesn't pay all the bills the system is messed up.

You are telling the truth...I know so many elderly that will only qualify for $20 or $30 dollars of stamps but others that are young and able-bodied are sitting home getting $300 or $400 a month. It is not right.

In NYC, food stamps require no additional requirement other than family size vs income . Where as temporary assistance (pays pretty much for your lifestyle ie: rent, cable, electric, etc.) requires a program for job readiness and they get people jobs. They also stop your benefits for non-complience. ANY type of gov't aid needs some sort of governing boundaries. Otherwise no repercussions breeds bad behavior. And if WIC can be regulated so can Foodstamps even more so being it's electronic.

I feel you on this. I grew up on welfare because neither one of my parents worked. My dad is an alcoholic and he has always used his SSI benefits to buy alcoholic and drugs. Ain't no telling what else he has been doing. My little cousin has 3 kids by different men and she don't do nothing but pop out babies. She is 22 years old doing nothing with herself. Nuff said. And will sit in her class and tell her they bought a $1000 pit. Im from St. Louis too and u can only be on Temporary Assistance for 5 years, for example if u find a job after 1 year of getting TA and then lose your job again, u have 4 years left to receive assistance. Your caseworker also stays on u and u have to report to her weekly in regards to job searches and volunteering. Its like having a P.O.

I agree. My family and I were just talking about this. I think they should be monitored, because its a shame when a kid goes hungry and their parents are getting $200-$500 in stamps a month to feed them. <--I've witnessed this in my community! I remember they offered my grandma only $14.00 in stamps after working 50yrs, but my cousin who never worked, owed child support, and was on drugs got $250.00 a month(that he sold)<--sad!

Sorry but to respond to the video I agree there should be drug testing. Supposedly in NY they put the substance abusers in programs and as soon as they miss an appointment or program requirements they are cut off ASAP. I work and go to school and I was given the hardest time for getting assistance for my baby and I. But the alcoholics and crackheads got their shit ASAP. It is sad and rehabilitation is a must.

In NYC, food stamps require no additional requirement other than family size vs income . Where as temporary assistance (pays pretty much for your lifestyle ie: rent, cable, electric, etc.) requires a program for job readiness and they get people jobs. They also stop your benefits for non-complience. ANY type of gov't aid needs some sort of governing boundaries. Otherwise no repercussions breeds bad behavior. And if WIC can be regulated so can Foodstamps even more so being it's electronic.

I feel you on this. I grew up on welfare because neither one of my parents worked. My dad is an alcoholic and he has always used his SSI benefits to buy alcoholic and drugs. Ain't no telling what else he has been doing. My little cousin has 3 kids by different men and she don't do nothing but pop out babies. She is 22 years old doing nothing with herself. Nuff said. Im from St. Louis too and u can only be on Temporary Assistance for 5 years, for example if u find a job after 1 year of getting TA and then lose your job again, u have 4 years left to receive assistance. Your caseworker also stays on u and u have to report to her weekly in regards to job searches and volunteering. Its like having a P.O.

@Shay8810 To elaborate on my statement about drug testing the people who receive pell grants is: Basically I DO NOT AGREE with them doing this at all...but what I am saying is, we know how sneaky the government bodies can be. It will eventually trickle over to testing other areas of the government that basically hand out "free" money. I wasn't saying TEST because I actually disagree with this as a "solution." Peace

I feel like the gov't paying these lazy ppl to sit at home and do nothing. They get food stamps, welfare, and free cell phone with minutes, housing..... get off ya ass and get a job!! And i agree the ppl i see at the store that pay with food stamps have a cart full of tonys pizza , kool-aid, honey buns, and candy wtf!

You are right about a lot of what you said the system needs to crack down on these corner stores that allow people to purchase alcohol with a fs card and those wic checks are real specific and if they catch you doing fraud you will be sol and in big trouble. In the WIC and healthy start program they teach women about nutrition but they just dont give a damn. They still eat whatever they want even when they are pregnant as if that is an excuse.

The entire system messed up!!! I applied for foodstamps while I was in school, and these ppl told me "I don't make enough money to qualify for foodstamps" and no this isnt a typo it's sad! If I was just sitting at home not working, not going to school I would've qualified. I also had another encounter with social service, I was diagnosed with a form of cancer and still wasn't working at that point, so I went to them for medical assistance they told me that if I had been pregnant they would've

I am sooo happy that someone else is thinking the same things I am. I say their asses should be doing community service if you don't work, clean up the community for 8 hrs a day to get benefits. You miss any time they should deduct that from ya benefits. I think cleaning up trash & doing things to better the community is a good way to earn your benefits I fully agree with you.

You are being generous. I've always thought that it should be limited to 18 months.Then send their butts to work!! Healthy people of working age should work.Perhaps in order to qualify for food stamps, recipients should be required to sign up for some sort of gov't sponsered job training program. It would have to be cheaper than trying to feed & house them forever.Maybe the next generation won't feel so entitled.Drug testing, i don't know,maybe with cause.It might be 2 expensive to test 100%.

You know what they say, "All good things must come to an end", esp. , a time of scarcity, and when the system is being abused. You, me,and everyone else gone have to pick up our own tab. While everybody on here is worried about taxes going to walfare. worry about your tax dollars going to some PUNKASS WAR or your taxes going to a state of the art gym for white house employees when most of us cant afford a gym membership. When I was in college, they would not give me food stamps because my parents made too much money. I was like my mother and father is not paying for my education what do they have to do with this. The assistance program in our country need to be revamped.
