Centralization and consolidation will only make the financial system *more* unstable. It reduces market diversity and reduces redundancy that is necessary for reliability of the system. Essentially it's putting all the eggs in one basket - a single-point failure probability is increased. This is already what caused the current crash!

Thanks for posting! Amazing! The only group that is dumber with a shorter memory than congress is the American People. This bailout is only second behind the greatest theft in history. The first was when the banks found a way to convert a liability (mortgages) into an asset (derivatives) and use fractional Reserve Lending against this asset - to the tune of $600 TRILLION! (our GNP is less than $2 T) Now their buddy is providing acquisition money to his friends in true Mafia fashion.

If there was ever proof that the federal government and the banking industry are working to protect the interest of each other, here it is. First the 2005 pro-banking bankruptcy "overhaul", not this. Granted, there was some well-meaning intent behind this bailout of the banking system, there was also obviously some scheming behind the scenes which allowed for some fine-printing & insertion of "loopholes."
