Whatever was said, Burrows had an exchange prior to the game with Auger, and his teammates also concur that he made a comment about it when he got to the bench. That in itself makes it a vaid and serious accusation. It doesn't make it true, it just warrants investigation. A phone call to the accused? Would that happen in a court preceeding? I think your missing the point here. I feel Burrows was in the wrong by going public on this. There should be proper protocol for a player to put in a complaint against an official. If they get enough of these complaints against one ref, then they will have to follow-up with discipline. It doesn't really matter of what Auger said to Burrows, this was against NHL protocol and Auger should be disciplined for it.
Still, no one can really prove Auger was malicious or did anything wrong. yea, the calls were questionable but every game there are questionable calls. The difference this time is the player went public with it.

Finally, if Auger's integrity is no longer questioned, do you think his competency should be questioned? Those calls were not NHL-level calls and neutral broadcasters and journalists have said as much.
Well we don't know if Burrows was lying or not. We don't have proof either way between the two. What we do know is that Burrows came to the media and ripped auger a new asshole. In that sense, he was fined for that.
I guess because no one is sure what's going on they went with what they knew.
I think that Auger did say something to Burrows as the video shows. What that was we will never know but Burrows was very upset after the game. Would any player stick their neck out like that based on a lie? I think Auger played Burrows knowing that he has no proof and it would throw him off of his game but I don't think it was in Augers plan for Burrows to go public with this like he did. Sportsnet was saying that Auger was interviewed my NHL officials yesterday. If there was any discipline by the NHL it would have been kept a private matter. I understand the reasons why it has to be kept private. Sportsnet was also saying the discipline could mean that he won't see much action officiating playoff games. They added that he has only officiated a few playoff games in the past, so the NHL must be aware that he is not a very good official.

The story is that during the exchange shown in this video, the ref told Burrows he was going to "get him back for making him look bad" a few months ago. That same ref then made 2 very questionable calls against Burrows at critical points in the game. During the resulting man advantage the Predators scored the game winning goal. That is the story, whether or not it is true remains to be seen.
@spearrbk To compliment what blabla2722 said, during the game, he called a number of very iffy penalties against the Canucks, and two calls against Burrows in particular: one for diving, and the other for interference, one in particular with the game on the line late in the 3rd. I think both calls were terrible, especially the interference call, which was just ridiculous. After the game, Burrows was pissed and told the journalists about Auger and everything.
Burrows has no reason to lie. He was not drafted and fought his ass off to get to the NHL. Refs have always played favorites and carried vendettas. Anyone remember Bob "Montreal" Meyers? Habs were a 2 point lock with Meyers reffing.
Burrows biggest mistake is going public with the truth. Auger will get chewed out. He will get zero bonus money playoff games and retire quietly. Burrows will pay a large fine for yapping the truth to the press.

Actually, knowing what the fallout might be, going to the press was quite a gutsy (albeit ill-advised) move. There's a chance that Burrows and the Canucks might get lousy calls for weeks to come. It takes more balls to say something than to keep quiet. Let's say Auger did threaten to get back at Burrows, What would you have done? Pay attention, people, a reply from this genius ought to be good...

We don't know that Auger did anything out of malice, that's all i'm saying.

Well we don't know if Burrows was lying or not. We don't have proof either way between the two. What we do know is that Burrows came to the media and ripped auger a new asshole. In that sense, he was fined for that.
I guess because no one is sure what's going on they went with what they knew.

I think that Auger did say something to Burrows as the video shows. What that was we will never know but Burrows was very upset after the game. Would any player stick their neck out like that based on a lie? I think Auger played Burrows knowing that he has no proof and it would throw him off of his game but I don't think it was in Augers plan for Burrows to go public with this like he did. Where there is smoke there is fire and I feel there was something to Burrows allegations.

the ref definatly did try to get Burrows back, their is to much evidence because it does look like burrows took a dive against nashville, then he talked to burrows before the game, and then he made those bullshit calls, i dont lik the canucks but that kid of officiating makes me sick, that ref should be kicked out of the league and fined.

I just hope that after all the time we have had to watch shitty refs fuck up great nhl games, that something is done. The refs cost us that game against Nashville, and perhaps the one against Calgary. If the standard is not raised then the fans will continue to get fucked. At the very least, Auger should be fired. He sucks, and has only refed 10 playoff games in 10 years. He must be just great......Why is the league defending him?

I know what you mean. The refs are not perfect. I know the rules are kinda gay right now for obstruction and stuff. It came from the years of grab and ride for free bullshit hockey from the early 90's. I am just talking about the calls I have seen that are clearly bull, like the ones in the Nashville game. If there is a way of weeding out unprofessional or controversial refs, then we need to do it.

I believe the key is that the fine is very low. No matter what side of the coin you are on in this, you must consider the possible reasons as to why the fine is so low. Consider the accusation and consider the fine. Then, and only then, one should derive their own conclusion. I would like to see the penalties that were called in this game against Burrows. That could shed some more light on this.

BTW, I believe at least one penalty is up on the game highlights on canucksdotcom. Announcer said he was pulled down, play continues then he appears to just fall (dive) and gets a penalty. The 2nd one was the bad one. He just bumps a guy and gets the obstruction. taking them off a PP. Ref revenge is NOT NEW.

@abc1000001 Did you hear about the Canucks boycott of CBC. They allowed no interviews any member of their organization the game they routed the Blackhawks. Mike Gillis met with Colin Campbell last week with additional footage. He is standing with Burrows on this matter. Still think it's possible Burrows lied? Not bloody likely. And Maclean has really stepped in it this time. His pseudo ref schtick has cost him. Word has it some CBC exec's are not amused how this is playing out.google it.

Burrows is known for being a diver, and mouthing off. If what Burrows claims Auger said, I really dont think they would be talking quite so calmly. Auger might have said something like, "I know ur a diver, keep it clean out there, or I will call you on it" or something like that. But its Alex Burrows, I dont take him seriously unless its his word against Averys or something like that.

Regardless of what Auger said to Burrows, this was against NHL protocol and Auger should be disciplined for it. Knowing the NHL they will just sweep this under the rug.

Sportsnet was saying that Auger was interviewed my NHL officials yesterday. If there was any discipline by the NHL it would have been kept a private matter. I understand the reasons why it has to be kept private. Sportsnet was also saying the discipline could mean that he won't see much action officiating playoff games. They added that he has only officiated a few playoff games in the past, so the NHL must be aware that he is not a very good official.

the nhl continues to make a fool of its self. NHL officiating is a complete and utter joke and this is glaring proof. Not that we needed any, anyone who follows hockey and knows anything about the game realizes that the refs are crooked as fuck. Just as an example, how many times have we seen key goals in huge moments get called off even though theres video proof that its a good goal, due to the fact that the ref "intended" to blow this whistle. The story is that during the exchange shown in this video, the ref told Burrows he was going to "get him back for making him look bad" a few months ago. That same ref then made 2 very questionable calls against Burrows at critical points in the game. During the resulting man advantage the Predators scored the game winning goal. That is the story, whether or not it is true remains to be seen.

@spearrbk To compliment what blabla2722 said, during the game, he called a number of very iffy penalties against the Canucks, and two calls against Burrows in particular: one for diving, and the other for interference, one in particular with the game on the line late in the 3rd. I think both calls were terrible, especially the interference call, which was just ridiculous. After the game, Burrows was pissed and told the journalists about Auger and everything.

Burrows has no reason to lie. He was not drafted and fought his ass off to get to the NHL. Refs have always played favorites and carried vendettas. Anyone remember Bob "Montreal" Meyers? Habs were a 2 point lock with Meyers reffing.
Burrows biggest mistake is going public with the truth. Auger will get chewed out. He will get zero bonus money playoff games and retire quietly. Burrows will pay a large fine for yapping the truth to the press.

Anyway...all of us should stop trying to lipread. Any judgments that are made should be done on the solid evidence that we only have right now: the clips of Auger talking to Burrows plus the penalties themselves. Other than that, let's just hope that there is some sort of investigation, after which we can all make our own judgments.

I believe Burrows is telling the truth. However, these lip reading comments by everyone do nothing to help prove it. They are almost certainly speakin in their native French. As Glass said in the post game the two of them were having words later on in the game and it was in French. Unless anyone here is both a frenchman and lip-reading expert, don't bother.

Do you know how stupid you just made yourself out to be? When learning sign language, one of your first classes is learning to lip read. You stand in front of the mirror, and the instructor mouths a sentence, very slowly and very carefully. You interpret what she says, then she says it out loud to you. We have 4 classes dedicated to this to teach our disabled children. I can see from the distinct "B" shape and how he nods his head, then opens his mouth to make a "k", it is "BACK" No questions.
