@breasthound Funny, but DeNiro actually broke into acting by doing a commercial or two for (IIRC) Buick in the very early-'70s.

A LOT of actors for a long time have gotten started with getting their faces out there for Show Business people to see by doing little jobs on commercials, even dumb commericals if necessary. And sometimes, ya know it actually works. DeNiro is one of those cases.

No one remembers the commercials, but everyone remembers his REAL work.

That "director" was an idiot bubble-head that didn't grasp what it was he was doing, and was too facile to care about what he was SUPPOSED to be doing. AND that was like the 19th take or whatever that he'd already put DeNiro through unnecessarily.

And not all directors are God, this "director" least of all hehehehe
