I was 27 when the King died., but I had grown up listening to his music, especially the gospel songs. My Mom adored him as well. This was her favorite gospel song, sung by Elvis. My son and I played it at her Memorial Service when she died in 1996 at the age of 85. I will have it played at my Service when I go. The PASSION Elvis put into this song is unforgettable! LONG LIVE THE KING!!
Hey Pokechooah, You did a killer job on that videography. Have y'all ever listened to Red Foley do this song? Elvis did play piano; don't know how well. His voice was his gift; he did not need to write songs or play...his job was to MINISTER to the world on these gospel songs. He missed his calling. If that "carnie" had not got ahold of him first..but...fate happens. POKE>>>I subscribed...wish I knew how to do that stuff...did you go to school for it?
Thanks, I was on the wat to the beach when it was announced the king was dead. I met Elvis in Shreveport before he cut his first record. We used to swim at the same pool. I remember when he cut his first recors, blue moon of ky.

One of my fav' songs of all time - either Cash's or Elvis' version. Love Cash's live version, which I'm more familiar with,... but damn, I love Elvis and this version is beautiful. Both versions are so different and great. Makes me sad and reflective listening to this song. Elvis Presley forever :)
You know Im usually not a big fan of southern christan music because I grew up on contemporary christan BUT there is just nothing like Elvis' gospel!!!! RIP
Elvis's version is the best, but it is interesting to listen to Red Foley's version, posted by Spellerine. You can see Elvis patterned it the way Red had done it. Tennessee Ernie Ford did it pretty well also.
OL' EL could sure sinng gospel but was he living it? Reports say he died of drug overdose and had over ten or twelve drugs in him at time of death-not all legal meds either...I'm not his judge and don't want to be but how can a man die like that and then make it to heaven????? of course GOD is a loving and merciful GOD, but does it cover such a tragic end filled with drugs and such???
@ArkanTheClean The argument was not that Elvis could songwrite/play instruments, it was whether Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash had the better take on this song. Personally, I like them both, but Elvis's has a more melodic tone than Johnny, thus creating a better-flowing, more peaceful song.
@Pokechoppah93 To my tastes Elvis overcooks the goose, and Cash communicates more genuine feeling.....I feel that is the great difference between them as artists in general...but it is all a matter of taste, and the world is richer for enjoying both of them!
@ArkanTheClean And yet Elvis was one of the best (if not the best) singers ever. To me great music is about really good songwriters, really good musicians and a great singer. Each one doing their job. It's not about a guy or a bunch of guys who can do it all themselves but in a mediocre way.
@ArkanTheClean Actually Elvis was a very accompliseh piano player and a decent guitarist. As far as writing songs, he wrote plenty of gospel songs, but yes very few mainstream hits. I prefer his version of this song mostly because his voice was much more clean than Cash's. Both are still excellent versions.
@Jhogge85 Read up on some of the guys who played in his band and a quote from Presleys piano player Glen D Hardin who said he did play a little 'I thought he was about the worst player I ever heard' . He was just another jumped up over hyped extremely commercially marketed at the expense of a lot of innovators junkie who died on the toilet. AS for guitar playing he he he h. Ok, he had a voice ...... so did my dad but he had a proper job. King of rock and roll .. never. Do some research
@Jhogge85 P.S. If you could point me in the direction of any songs he wrote. He was credited on a few tunes but he was merely given co - credit by his manager.
@ArkanTheClean can you just enjoy the words of the song- and many many times it was taped Elvis hated to be called king and gospel was what he really wanted to do-maybe if so he wouldn't have died as he did- guess you are the pedophile Jackson fan- yea he wrote sang ect all while molesting children- i will take Elvis anyday
@dmflake Now were into divine intervention ...... God who?? Sorry to burst bubbles but Santa aint real and you cant grow lollies from a stick and there are no fairies at the bottom of the garden.
@ArkanTheClean I was more concerned with your neglect of a natural instrument. However, I will also say I will keep my beliefs, and you I'm sure are fine with your choices as well. Let's agree to disagree on the matter.
@bullshirt61 Beginning to realise the fans of Elvis are just products of a business system thats out of their control.
If you call a handful of beginners chords on guitars and 3 blind mice on piano fair enough. Even his own musicians, which were the tops say he was useless at playing instruments and I can direct you to the quotes but you can search them out or show me otherwise.
Songs, his business 'mafia' management credited him with some stuff but DIDNT. Its show business not show mercy
@ArkanTheClean Elvis played instruments very well, Piano, Guitar and even the drums and not forgetting his vocal instrument. Oh and I can point you to sites that show Elvis playing piano.... but u can source them out yourself!
@shadow3999 Really don't mind being wrong but no one said he didn't play the piano but even his own piano player is quoted as saying he is the worst player he has ever heard............... Keep it REAL. One is entitled to ones own opinions but not the facts. This is getting tedious
@ArkanTheClean yeah right thats why many times elvis had to take over on the piano in concerts to play a song because his own piano player couldnt get it right. songs like you'll never walk alone, blueberry hill, unchained melody, and where no one stands alone. glen hardin would even vouch for it so whereever you get your info from you are totally wrong
@ArkanTheClean man you are full of shit i have talked to his his band members and they said he wdamn good at playing piano, guitar, drums, bass guitar. he kne w what he was doing and what he wanted. all his muisc he recorded and performed on stage was his own arrangements most of the time so dud e shut your mouth up you dont know what the hell youa re talking about and you could get sued by his band members for that type of slander
@mofoca22 If his musicianship was up to the standards of your English & use & your typing & your articulation then he must be a genius. Google what I said then go see what his band members had to say. Getting the feeling your making this up as you go. And, as for your legal expertise I suggest you look up the definition of slander and as a hint the word you are looking for is libel. Anything else your not sure about give me a shout. All that black music & not one ever in sight Hmmmmm
@ArkanTheClean only people who lost argument would resort to the "you cant spell or type " argument go fuck yourself you are the asshole making shit up i know elvis;s band members so suck my dick
@mofoca22 Sorry, didn't realise you were a homosexual. If you want another male to orally stimulate your genitalia then try cruising the net for gay sites or are you a closet gay. Meanwhile, ("you cant spell or type " ) your evading the main issue and not addressing the original topic and as to the the question of who you know and have met doesn't really come into it. Have a gay day.
@ArkanTheClean hey mate. There are a lot of great singers out there who don't write their own songs or play any instruments. Does that make them any less a good entertainer. Elvis sang from the heart and gave it his all. He knew how to entertain people and how to please his fans. All that without special effects and stupid dancers in the back ground. When Elvis sang, it was as if he was singing just to you. Now how many artist can you say has that effect on their audience. NONE!!! Thank you
get rid of every-ones gods........get rid of war........all this fighting is over your god versus my god........not right......i'm a non believer in any god....but this is a great song
The Government Should Listen To This Amazing Song Maybe Then Our Brave Soldiers Could Come Home. Keep Strong Guys, We Are All Praying For You And Some Off Us Aren't Even Christian. God Bless All Of You x x x
I'm not trying to push you into Christianity. However, maybe God is trying to talk to you through the music. That's how He gets to me alot. Just saying. God Bless you.
Well, the Christian way isn't supposed to judge people. We're supposed to pray for them. I think that is why so many people have turned their back on Christianity. If everyone would just understand that Christianity isn't about the people, it's about Jesus Christ.
Do you get what I am saying. Maybe I don't make any sense. I make more sense in person. Anyways, have a good night. God Bless.
The Golden Rule: Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31
The Two Greatest Commandments:Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.Mark 12: 30-31
He was the best, simply put. He will forever be missed, but through the determination of fans like you and I, he will live on forever. Thank you for viewing my videos.
Il ike this song, especially in hisstyle. Some thought he was too flamoiant. I know he has a lot of mystery to him, but he made it. R.I.P, the King of Rock & Roll!
This was one of my patients favorite songs. We became very good friends and remained that way right until the end. After leaving her memorial today, I stopped at Starbucks... and this song was playing. That's how I know she'll always be watching over me... I miss you Evelyn, my friend.
same im actually starting to learn about Elvis myself cuz many kids my age think he is stupid when he is far from it cuz kids dont know him and havent grown up with his voice/movies in their families...he has the most amazing voice!
I always turn to gospel music when i am in a jam, it always helps me decide whats the right thing. I feel closer to god when I listen. Good job on the video, it was very nice.
Well I have to say first of all, "Thank you very much" for posting this. I am not the world's biggest Elvis fan, but you don't have to be to like this. Good work on the visual and again, "thank you very much."
Well, I have to say that you have provided the best feedback and the best comment I've yet recieved. I appreciate it. I am a HUGE Elvis fan, but you are right... You don't have to be, to like such a great classic as this. Never the less, thanks for the wonderful comment.
I don't care what anyone says, there was only one King ! Presley WAS A CLASS ACT,in what ever he sung, don't think any other singer will be
remembered as long as him after their death.
goes to show how good he was if people are comparing him with today's singers
as for JOHNNY CASH he had his own style of singing but Elvis's fan base and record sales speaks for itself

@ArkanTheClean man you are full of shit i have talked to his his band members and they said he wdamn good at playing piano, guitar, drums, bass guitar. he kne w what he was doing and what he wanted. all his muisc he recorded and performed on stage was his own arrangements most of the time so dud e shut your mouth up you dont know what the hell youa re talking about and you could get sued by his band members for that type of slander
mofoca22 9 months ago

@ArkanTheClean YOU ARE WRONG!!!! ELVIS DID WRITE SONGS AND HE PLAYED THE GUITAR AND PIANO!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ArkanTheClean but he song like an angel ...and the females loved his looks ...dont need more than that hehe
gardini100 9 months ago
@ArkanTheClean hey mate. There are a lot of great singers out there who don't write their own songs or play any instruments. Does that make them any less a good entertainer. Elvis sang from the heart and gave it his all. He knew how to entertain people and how to please his fans. All that without special effects and stupid dancers in the back ground. When Elvis sang, it was as if he was singing just to you. Now how many artist can you say has that effect on their audience. NONE!!! Thank you

@chatters81054 I'm with you; I love Johnny Cash, but better than Elvis? Come on.
vega868 1 year ago
@chatters81054 Johny Cash wrote his own songs and Elvis didn't and were not his. The word integrity comes to mind and less of a 'product'.

I won't become a Christian, jccrosby3967, but this song already means a lot to me because of how beautiful the music is.
musicman69123 2 years ago
@musicman69123
I'm not trying to push you into Christianity. However, maybe God is trying to talk to you through the music. That's how He gets to me alot. Just saying. God Bless you.

Thank you. I will be praying for you. You have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Same to you, jennel802009. I'm impressed by your tolerance of beliefs other than your own. I wish more people in this world had your attitude.
musicman69123 2 years ago
@musicman69123

"The lamb is the light" refers to the son of God, Jesus, being the guardian and saviour to and for us all. The lyrics are correct.
