@MyHumanLife2011 These beetles come from all over the world... Depending upon where you live, you may or may not be able to find any shiny metallic ones in your area. However, you can often buy/trade them from other world-wide collectors/breeders if you are interested in making a collection. There are lots of insect wesites online :-)
@RevengeOfMoctezuma I'm not sure what species those big ones were. I do have some footage of an Elephant Beetle in one of my other ones though... Thanks for stopping by!
Yea - that's a BIG one alright! Even though I'm fairly comfortable handling most bugs, having one of those things climbing up my leg or flying in my face would be a little un-nerving XD Thanks for stopping by! =)
I do post a lot of bug vids, and lots of other stuff too - I tried to keep my channels "themed" to some degree, but there is some mixing of genres too. Do have a look around and see what else might be interesting! =)
I find it often mean to do this but I guess as long as they arn't endagered or cryptic it is all good, I must say it is very gorgeous, in some word diamonds are put to shame for these. very marvolous.
Interestingly, far more bugs (both endangered and not) are killed every year by other animals and habitat destruction... Many of the insects found in collections are "farmed", so that collectors can have specimens without noticeably affecting wild populations. In any case, these bugs are definitely amazing in many ways =)
Definitely sucks to be a bug in a human's world - and I think we're all guilty of it... just imagine the millions or even billions of insects (like ants, spiders, termites, etc.) that we humans kill every year with horrible poisons and other methods, just because we don't like them for some reason...
@jcmegabyte Another thing - Rodents! They don't do anything but protect what they have, and that is very small when you think about it. Rats are actually very clean when given to chance to be, and mice, well, they don't even mess with us! And there's plenty more animals we abuse around the world, like slow loris(s)!
THEY'RE SO DAMN CUTE!
And yet we choose to pull out their two front teeth and keep them , which can cause disease and death.
It does seem that way - and yes they are indeed better seen alive and in their natural environment. In spite of how many dead specimens there are here, this is nothing compared to the billions of insects (ants, flies, cockroaches, spiders, etc.) that we humans kill every day - just because they aren't pretty or because we dont like them. It's pretty ironic...
1:25 That One In The Top Right Corner Cant Even Be Called A Beetle Cause Its Just That Big. And Thats Not Even An Elephant Beetle! Its Just An Elephant! O___O
@TheCamelCollector Insects aren't smart enough to paint themselves so artistically. They only act and move according to what they need and they obviously don't need such fancy, elaborate arts. So, there must be a God who painted them.
@nochannel1000 Lies. There must be a use to these fancy colors. Even your God wouldn't create something useless...................except if evolution is true...... :P
They are in danger... when people are jogging and walking don't care where they stomp their shoes. Poor beetles... One of them was crawling around a hole and then decided to go into it! What a silly beetle.
It's hard to tell exactly where each one came from... I'm sure some were collected, while others may have been captive reared or even found dead. Some collectors do it simply for the sake of having one (or more) of each kind, but I think most also study the life history, conservation and scientific aspects of their specimens as well. Collectors frequenty make many discoveries and even aid in conserving wild habitat, so there will be more to collect in the future. :-)
It's awesome how some beetles are so pretty and colourful they don't even look natural, like someone painted them, this is why I love bugs. They're amazing.
I think most people expect dull-looking black or brown beetles, or maybe even a red ladybug... so these species are a real surprise to most everyone :-) Thanks so much for watching!
It's unlikely all of these bugs were killed specifically for the bug fair, but certainly many were killed for the purpose of being added to collections. Most species only live a few weeks in the adult stage, and can be kept alive and fed in captivity, then added to a collection once they've literally died of old age on their own. They're also pretty tough, unlike many other insects, and collectors can often find decent dead specimens in the wild as well. So, it's not all bad news for them :-)
I thought this shorter video may be just the thing for me to see your great capture of pretty colors, then I see this giant elephant beetle and... and...I'm just so grateful you have those great videos of butterflies & hummingbirds!!!
Some of these are so colorful that they really don't look real, but then nature has been making amazing things like this for a very long time - and there really are cool bugs like this running around out there in the world :-)
@jcmegabyte True, but some people could do that, to trick the people that he has a gold beetle, plus he could make a fortune at least 50-100 bucks....
These metallic, reflective ones come from all over the world and many different envirnments, but in general I think you're right - their tactic probably to immitate reflective, inedible objects which might be found in their ecosystem. :-)
These aren't mine - I only filmed the sights and sounds at this insect fair. I'm not sure how they kill them - probably some kind of bug poison, like is used on ants, roaches, etc...
It's quite possible that it may have a number of "common" names, which is typical for insects - this is especially true of those with wide ranges. The scientific name for that one is on the tag right above it, and should be the correct one... at least none of the bug experts at the insect fair argued with it. :-)
them beetles are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo big

Wow! The metallic ones, are those their real colors? Never seen such golden or silvery / coppers - like ones, ever. they look like pins to put on. That big one if I ever saw one like that in person, will freak me out! Lol.
Yes - those beetles really are mettalic irridescent colors just like you see - there are no paints of other modification done to them. Some of the critters in nature are truly amazing works of art without any help from humans :-)
Fortunately they're ot that big XD The body is about 2-3" long and the wingspan can hit 7+. Still, that's a really big bug, and YES - they can fly too! :-)
Thxs, It was quite an "art" when I dried the butterflies. Lots of work with the wings. :) Im a little new inside the "bug world" but have some experience. Perhaps you know where could I buy all these pins on internet (I don't have a card or anything for buying in a simple website and could only buy them by simple sending money by mail), becouse entomology isn't very popular in my country, so you can't just go and buy what you need.Thxs again, (btw, are those bugs perhaps from cuba?) ;)
For entomological supplies, BioQuip is definitely one of the biggest and most reliable places. They have an online catalog and do ship worldwide through the mail. Just google the name to find their website. They be able to take an international money order for payment... I'm sure they can tell what will work.
The beetles in this display are from all over the world, mostly tropical places. Cuba has some very nice, and rare species, but I don't think they are legal to import into the USA...

That is one giant heck of an elephant beete man. Is it like bigger than a human head?
Nickythepickle 1 year ago
