It's funny because that's one of the reasons Oprah said she stopped featuring certain controversial guests on her show; it gave them too much of a platform. I understand Doug's point about the modern day freakshow and it's a valid one. That said it's too cynical to say that none of these triumph over adversity stories have inspirational value.
