Well, that point is debatable. one could easily argue that the waste could be stored somewhere harmless, for exmaple a mountain in a desert or at the bottom of the sea, but the problem with that is that the waste doesn't decay to harmless materials for hundreds of thousand of years, so if the desert at any point becomes habitable, the waste would prevent people from living there.
