I recommend that you do not use this when it is wet out, not because of the feeder, but the squirrel. With the squirrel wet, the body resistance will drop, causing the current to go up enough to kill. The thing is that the breaker most likely will not trip leaving the squirrel energized as long as he is attached. And this is the point that it can be a hazard to you, make sure to deenergize before handling or it can kill you also and not trip the breaker under the right conditions. Funny vid.

Squirrels are over-populated in many areas. This obviously didn't kill it or seriously wound it. Otherwise, it wouldn't have run away so fast. Squirrels can fall a LOT farther than that and be fine. They are designed to withstand those kinds of falls. Hell, I used to raise orphan Racoons and they'd fall 30 feet from a tree and be fine. That's how they learn how to climb. They fall a lot. All you animal rights nuts calm down. They are just animals. Go back to your PETA meetings.

@misspiggy648 - Understand your concern, but they squirrels were never harmed. They learned quickly to avoid it and they get the seed below that the birds scratch out of the feeder, and they don't prevent the birds from getting any seed. So I think it is actually fair to the animals, they all get seed and no animal dominates the supply.
@salorna but the squrill was harmed , you electrocuted the poor little guy , then he fell a fair distance. There are more humane ways to keep a squrill off of a bird feeder.
@CatalystOfRomance well there are these bird feeders you can get that are weight activated, so that when a bird is on the perch it is fine , but then when something heavy like a squrill goes on , the perch spins and knocks the squrill off , and the seed holder is really long so that they cant reach the holes without going on the peerch. It is alot better then shocking the poor little guys.

That's exactly whats going on here, squirrel tries to eat out of the bird feeder, and gets a friendly jolt. It doesn't harm the squirrel, just a little shock to scare it away.
