The concept of "baksheesh" is the name of that corruption and has been in existence as long as their have been Arabs on camels. As for US aid, it is given to many countries. Israel just made better use out of it. About the numbers question the credit is to the Hindu system, although there is some acknowledgement towards Arabs for preserving them. In regards to this "El-Edrissi" from what I can find out he was Berber not Arab and used Spherical Trigonometry as postulated by the ancient Greek philosophers.
