  • Okay I just got home from anhuge maching band competition and they qualified our band for the state competition. I am a freshman so ive never really felt a victory in band so far... When they announced our name as the very last band on their list of four that are going to state, the music at 1:25 just SO perfectly repicates the pure emotion of victory. We worked our tails off for this and when they called out our schools name, we lost it. So many people were crying, including myself. I have lis

  • When I think of drum corps, I think of Phantom first. You guys are absolute icons.

  • This was my great grandmother's favorite song, I listen to it every night and get goosebumps every time. Phantom regiment is incredible, thank you for posting this

  • these players would sound amazing in an wind band...daymnn id imagine a cresendo..wow!

  • I Love This.

  • i really hope that i get to play this arrangement before i get outof high school!

  • p.s i listened to this quitly then i listen to it again with the volume on full to gain the full experience of the cresendo at 1:25 :)

  • i disagree with biglzwerth1983 the trumpets give this the liftit need from the beautifull low brass

  • For you Marty Hurley!!

  • I agree with the last comment. Mellophone are kicking ass.

  • Nothing beats when the Melophones kick in !

  • @Biglzwerth1983 nothing beats Phantom's mellos. Every year they're fucking amazing.

  • Video should MOVE.

  • Brilliant is all I have to say.

  • The trumpets just took over at 1:25

  • I don't get why there is so much hate to the blue devils, what have they done wrong? Although, I do like Phantom Regiment a lot...

  • @poopmcdoopdoop the blue devils constantly get high placings. I admit that their execution is flawless. however, their music selection just isnt, in my opinion, good enough for the credit they get.

  • @dawnofthelivingjesus I think the amount of practice they put in probably is what gets them first. I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of all of their themes, but i do like their playing :P

  • @poopmcdoopdoop Funny thing is no one hated them before 2008. What really got it, when Phantom won the championships that year, when the Blue Devils won everything before. Right after they won, a bunch of blue devils fans start posting hate comments on every youtube video they could find. And has been like that since, so people just assume that they dislikes are from blue devils fans. (Notice how I say the fans, not the alumni, and members).

  • @kevinbs05 I believe that phantom deserved it that year, and i'm a blue devils fan. I think people can be quite ignorant :O

  • @poopmcdoopdoop Oh yeah, absolutely, they deserved it; it was hell of a show. But am I wrong, about when the rivalry started? Although, loved the music from BD this year, entertaining, but visually I don't think they shouldn't have passed up the cavaliers (IMO).

  • @kevinbs05 Yeah, i saw bd live this year, i really liked their show. But i liked phantom's story this year better than bd's

  • @poopmcdoopdoop I agree, also love the music, but personally I don't like the horns that PR is marching. Never really have, since they changed from King. King's were awesome with them.

  • those 3 dislikes must be blue devils fans..

    Absolutely beautiful

  • R.I.P. Dr. Dean Musson you will be missed

  • I tear up everytime I watch this. So unbelievabley beautiful.

  • paradox:

this is the kind of sound you have to sell your soul to the devil to get, but there is no way anything formed by that should sound so heavenly

  • Rest in peace, Mr. Marty Hurley. You will not be forgotten.

  • @MrMertakhai every1 thumbs up to Brett Storms comment thanks (MrMertakhai)

  • absolutely beautiful. this and ave maria get me everytime. Go phantom!!!!

  • absolutely beautiful. this and ave maria get me every time. go phantom!

  • I'd love to hear this played in a church. It would blow the windows.

  • The chills I get and tears I shed at the crescendo of this number are always completely involuntary. Few things stir my emotions like this performance. Year to year there are always memorable shows and outstanding performances but some transcend time. This is one of those shows that has been immortalized in the hearts of those who have heard it over the years.

  • This is amazing. Never heard anything so beautiful!

  • this makes me tear up not gonna lie.

  • Ask any Bridgemen if they cared about scores!!!! There was never an audience that didn't love them!

  • @rafter234 nobody cares.

  • It's music at its finest. Don't expect any less.

  • uhhmmmm needs more cowbell

  • My heart lies a few miles east of Rockford, but this is one of the most wonderful recordings of marching music I've ever heard.

  • I love how the trumpets just lead the way like they arent even capable of playing soft. That was like fff if not more

  • @meeeksz That was more like ffffff

  • Phantom only use uphs they dont use bari's makes it even better !!!

  • Comment removed

  • 3 people are Blue Devils

  • favorite part is definatly 1:26

  • Those mellos at 1:39- 1:43 ....just WOW. And thats coming from a trumpet player

  • @uubboy14 Well yeah mello is by far the second best in the brass next to Euphoniums (NOT BARITONES! EUPHONIUMS ONLY!) ;)

  • @TheSn4zzle hahaha I'v always wondered: what's the difference between euph & bari?

  • @uubboy14 The Euphonium is a conical-bore instrument, providing listeners with a mellow, dark, full tone while the baritone is cylindrical-bore, providing a bright, energetic tone. While I personally like the Euph more, both instruments are wonderful to listen to.

  • @Jiaxis i wish my band could afford euphoniums lol

  • @uubboy14 Well they play the exact some notes/frequency it is just the euphonium is a larger horn (mini tubas as my director says) and they weigh 12lbs where as a baritone is 5lbs, marching that is. The euphonium thus has a darker sound and is used for 3rd part only but I love 3rd because simply put, "I hear Tyler over all the baritones." So I rock out on 3rd, I got offered to play 1st but I always stay on 3rd because some how me and my friends just like it, also the pride of a euphonium is betr

  • I love the sound Phantom makes.... they're like an organ. You guys are great, the power you have, even when playing softly. It's amazing. You've graced us all.

    See what I did there?

  • Smiles and chills. Every single time.

  • damn... freakin made me cry.....

  • That was orgasmic

  • Best Mello line EVER!! No arguments from anyone. This has to be the best Mellophone line I've ever heard and all they're doing is sustaining the harmony!

  • very awsom arangement

  • Omgeee this is just too great makes me get major chills..!!:)_<3

  • While listening to this, one has to imagine sitting in a stadium atop a hill around midnight. The Phantom Regiment has taken its place for an encore. It's about midnight under a clear sky with a crisp and cool gentle breeze.

The horn line is facing away from the main bleachers as the harmonic blends of Amazing Grace begin, with subtle echoes returning to your ears from the nearby homes. You sit back, appreciate this rare experience, absorbing every moment.

  • As the first verse ends and a crescendo begins, the horn line rotates to face you and delivers the second verse with the full, legendary sound of the Phantom Regiment. Your body is infiltrated with vibrations turning into chills as this bountiful sound pierces the night. At 1:44, the horn line takes a 2-count rest, allowing the echoes from afar to fill the void. You think of neighborhoods suddenly hearing this unexpected sound - what a blessing it must be.

  • If I'm stricken with a life-threatening condition and sent home to face my final days, I'd give my life savings to have the Phantom Regiment deploy on my street to let me hear and feel this sound, just one... last... time...

  • 1:24 and then on gives me the flippinnn chills! amazing! :D

  • I would love that at my funeral. Anyones funeral really. Mainly a soldiers. Wow!! Talk about tears.

  • Chills the whole way through,

I was eating a hot pizza and i was cold afterwards i love the dynamics and soloist. Keep at it, you guys are going to go first with ease.

  • omg, gave me goosebumbs

  • The very best rendition is from the IUP marching band. The "Legend" plays on!!!

  • This is so AMAZING!!!!!

  • This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard! That brass is like nothing else. and the crescendo at 1:24 gets me every single time!

  • I've never heard a better rendition of my favorite hymn

  • DAmn, that gave me goosebumbs :D

  • ooh... every time i watch this video i could cry ;( it's so incredible that people can make so wonderful music <3 goosebumps on all over my body *-* i am myself in a drum corps and dream of playing at dci *_*

good luck for your future :)

    greetings from germany

  • Ahhhhh....1:30 gets me everytime

  • If i served in the military, at my grave i would rather have phantom play this instead of a fake scottish guy with a bagpipe

  • It's 92 degrees and 1:27 just gave me chill bumps. What a sound!

  • 2 people had their computers on mute!

  • @sifer82 more like two people didn't make the cut for Phantom.

  • The 2 people that disliked this are obviously tone deaf because the sound created here is amazing! So beautiful! I want to go to heaven with this version playing as I walk in! I love Phantom!

  • @Euphmmx: I have news for you, this is youtube so it's not really possible to "butt in". I never said that Phantom won the "fan favorite" award, I said they were a fan favorite, meaning that many, many fans had them as their favorite show in 2010. You seriously need to calm down and stop with all the name calling. It just shows how immature you are. Good day to you, sir.

  • @magikkmann There show was beautiful. I loved it.

  • :42 Sit on that note tubas!!!!!!!

  • I get goosebumps every time I hear this!

  • GOOSE BUMPS....*shudders*

  • HOLY CRAP this is AMAZING!!

Does anyone know what edition of Phantom this is? Like what year is this recording from?

  • @acraw92 it was uploaded 09, so maybeee 09 regiment

  • @acraw92 This recording was from the 1993 season, It could be found on an album released that year called "Ornaments in Brass" It was a christmas album with multiple corps playing various seasonal selections.

The album also included a standstill recording of fire of eternal glory from Phantoms field show that year that was mindblowing. If I could only find my copy, guess its time to hit the attic for a trip down amnesia lane.

  • There is a god!

  • this is the best version of this i have ever heard in my life.

  • You can tell the people who have never marched corps by how much they talk about scores. If you are in corps, they mean little.

    -Phantom '11

  • @samrshelley Coming from a guy who hasn't marched yet, either.

  • @euphmmx Yep. I don't think you need to march in order to realize music is about the emotional movement you make in people. Thats what putting on any show is about. People like Phantom because the corps is very good at getting people emotionally involved in their shows. There is a reason Phantom's 2010 show was the most downloaded show after the 2010 season.

  • @samrshelley True, but a corps success is also defined by how well they place. Pioneer and Crown could have the same "emotional movement" and place 23rd & 4th respectively, but who's going to be more popular with the bandos? The top corps, of course. And who in turn gets more money and spotlight? The top corps, of course. Scores are more important than you brush them off as.

Marchers may not care about scores, but most care about the crowd. It's not fun playing to judges and empty seats.

  • @euphmmx You are right about scores to a degree. But still, Madison Scouts will get crowds on their feet but will place 12th. Personally, I'd rather watch a good show that scores low than a bad show that scores high. I watched Crown, Bluecoats, and BD this year, and the Bluecoats show was easily the most entertaining, and the crowd around me agreed, lol.

  • @samrshelley No. I am right to the fullest degree. Bluecoats was 3rd place and Madison was 10th, both high placements. What did you do when some ~20th place corps took the field? You were probably watching a G8 corps warmup because most others do it. People only want to see the top scoring corps and march them, using lower corps as stepping stones and then deserting them for the G8. Scores do matter because they determine which corps have the largest audience, money, and talent pools.
