  • Incredible that there should still be such cold-pissing people on earth (alas, Paris is full of them, so I should not marvel).

  • @serenaluce for the record, the primary purpose of microphones at this venue is for recording, so that we may listen to this performance. If the intent was to amplify the singing, we would se a wearable microphone, the kind of which PJ prefers. The microphones you see in the video are the kind and set up that is used to record sounds coming in from multiple sources and at a distance - something you use for recording, not amplification of a single voice among a large group.

  • They're having so much fun! Shame te see that the same thing cannot be said for all YT commentators.....

  • 2:48 :):):):):):):):):)

  • So much (auto) irony! Great!

  • @TheJlazar and associated commenters -- I have to disagree. Jaroussky is a fine counter-tenor, possibly the best I've seen. He certainly didn't need a mike when I saw him live with Andreas Scholl at the main hall in the Barbican in London recently.

This performance was a group of highly talented baroque musicians having a bit of fun -- five minutes looking at the other stuff by them on YouTube would have shown you that. Lighten up a bit!

  • @TheJlazar I couldn't agree more with you here. It's pure pop which has nothing to do with Monteverdi who is a baroque composer whom PJ and Pluhar's group just use for their pop purposes! No real countertenor would ever use a microphone in such a small venue. PJ is just a pop falsettist who sings classical stuff in a pop manner. Actually, this performance is suitable only for shows "Just for laughs" and supposed to be just LAUGHED at. How can people think at all that PJ is an opera singer?!...

  • @serenaluce

oh please stop being so pig-headed and backward thinking and acting like you were the marcel reich-ranicki of baroque music. It is know -it -all puritans like you who make me just feeling extremely annoyed when I am just wanting to enjoy the fine music. do yourself a favour and widen your horizon a little, will you. tbc...

  • @serenaluce if you don't like what this remarkable ensemble is creating, leave it. there's no need to criticize a work at such a nonprofessional level.just as I said, only because THIS isn't to YOUR taste doesn't mean it is badly done. you're not the oracle of delphi.

    cheers

PS: do please criticize what you like, but do it in an appropriate and RESPECTFUL way.

  • @chocotier You are no Oracle of delphi either to tell me on what level me or anybody else criticizes! It's not a matter of TASTE! If you don't understand what I wrote here doesn't prove that you can patronize me.Come on, I don't just criticize somebody for being not to my taste or having a poor technique. E.g. Scholl isn't exactly to my taste but he's a great CT. Bjorling isn't to my taste but he's a great tenor! This ensemble can be remarkable but what they show here is pure POP! Admit it!

  • @TheJlazar

"He can't be heard without a microphone." - Have you ever heard him live or you just think so?

  • @TheJlazar

Do keep in mind that the modern 'operatic' voice is completely different from that of early music. Voices were not intended to project over a 100 piece orchestra in huge concert halls. Secondly, the counter tenor voice is naturally small as it uses only half of the vocal folds (not full contact). Thirdly, this is monteverdi and in no way operatic repertoire. Fourthly, Jaroussky is certainly an operatic singer - he's just not a ridiculous over-the-top romantic singer.

  • Sorry, good people, but I hate this sort of thing! It's for everybody's inner child only. The audience delirium at the end is almost poignant it's so stupid.

  • We saw it yesterday in class and its amazing!!!

  • soooooooooooooooooowas von genial!

  • genial!

  • Simplemente genial

  • Philippe Je t´aime

  • superb.........

  • I saw his last performance in 'het Concertgebouw' in Amsterdam last october. Was even more spectecular than this one

  • Pas mal !

  • I'm sure that good old Claudio would have appreciated...after all... his "Seconda Pratica" (or "Stile Moderno") that influenced compositions like this one, was considered...well, modern back in his day! A little syncopation added to some counterpoint shouldn't do too much harm :)

  • genial!!!

  • Brilliant. Monteverdi and jazz? Two of the greatest things ever in one tasty, delicious stew! Bravi!
