It's a game meant to "resurrect" the fake video-game character Matt Hazard (Who knows of his own existence in a videogame.)

So basically, the story is that Matt Hazard was in a side-scrolling shooter game, then worked his way up to 3D and became "the worlds most popular action video-game character" according to himself.

Then his popularity dropped after the videogame Haz-Matt Carts.

Then the Marathon company got bought up by some guy who then resurrected Matt Hazard again!
