I remember the first time I herad this. It was at a I&W concert i Stockholm, and I hadn't heard it before. It was the second song of the concert, and it was 100 % quiet in the hall, before the explosion of applause afterwards. It was a haunting moment, a certain atmosphere that was undescribealbe. Fucking poetry.
I don't know why, but I love how the filmer kind of gasps at 4:14. It might be something completely different, but I thought at first that he was reacting the song and the beauty of the words,. Either way, it makes me shiver..like it amplifies the affect of the song for me.
Silence exists between the notes, thats what creates music - The silence, enjoy the silence, without it, music just runs together and is a jumbled mess
I think its funny when people cheer for that and I have no problem with those who do...I just wish they didn't because it makes it hard to hear when he says "tell my mother not to worry" which is definitely my favorite line!
The other video is better quality--it looks official or something--but I kinda like listening from within the bawling crowd. It feels more...immediate.
... I used to think this song was beautiful, and just that. Now I'm listening to it more and more and seeing just how.. honestly, divine, this man is.
My ex-boyfriend (who was my ex-boyfriend at the time) put this song on repeat as we laid together to fall asleep and he sang it quietly in my ear. Ugh I love this song but hearing it puts me in such misery.
Sam is the greatest singer songwriter to ever come out of the South. I cant wait to tell my daughter about him when she grows up. So we listen to him together and let here know what real music is. I cant help but cry everytime i here this.

I saw Iron and Wine in Richmond a few weeks ago and a girl fainted during the show. He opened with this song, that's probably why. Haha.

I like how throughout the song, you hear people sniffling in the background. That's what this song does to me.
