  • No Offense, but he does not look Healthy , Take care of yourself buddy

  • WHY WAS BSG SUCCESSFUL ? COME ON GUYS

  • George Lucas Retired , So .......What now ?

  • Rick basically said HBO are bitches

  • Comment removed

  • Oh god just let someone else make them. The animated Clone Wars (not the CGI) is pretty awesome. All the cuts scenes for The Force Unleashed are awesome. Ditto with most of the computer games. Everyone else "gets" Star Wars except for George it seems.

  • I heard the Star Wars TV show is mean to focus on gangsters who control drugs and prostitution. Weird, how Lucas said Star Wars is for kids. I think someone realises they fucked up by including a cartoon frog rabbit as a main character and making most of Anakin's dialogue "yippee" and "wooo hooo".

  • What is it with Ricks?

  • fuck digital characters Rick !

hire ACTORS, you know old school style ...

  • star wars rape :P

  • The live action TV show being based around time travel and stoping Darth Vader from existing?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!...

  • I would love to be a fourteen year old Luke Skywalker, and, my real name is Luke. Also, all my friends say I look like a younger version of Mark Hamill.

  • @1googlithproductions Pre-crash or post-crash? :P

  • This would be so epic!!!

  • "Viewing habits". That's the key: nobody knows what the next "standard" platform is gonna replace TV as we knew it. It's amazing that in 2012 we still can have a standard "internet in your living room" experience. Yes, we have PS3, XBox, Apple TV, Netflix... blah, blah, blah. Damn it, I want to sit on the sofa, grab remote control and WATCH STUFF I REALLY WANT TO SEE. Is that THAT difficult?

  • @MrJaffa2015 That's not what george is concerned about. He just lacks the budget.

  • Look, all plinkett jokes aside, I think it's time to leave George alone. He isn't a terrible person, you should really stop calling him a bad person. He may have lost a bit of his touch, but just remember that he was the man who created star wars in the first place. He is a great film maker. He created an entire universe. Without him, there would be no original trilogy! While he may be infamous for the prequel trilogy, he also created the originals. Stop dissing george. He's an awesome directer.

  • @Scienceorc He had a lot of help with the originals, and he was only credited with directing the first Star Wars. If he didn't have people keeping him in check and telling him "this is a stupid idea," can you imagine how bad those films would have been at the time? Lucas isn't that great of a director, because if he was, the prequels would have turned out a lot better and he wouldn't have had to use as many special effects as he did.

  • Rick, read this carefully:

    Release it

    Sincerely

    -The World

  • I love Rick. He's ace.

  • @BENGOMIN George lucas created star wars, not Rick mcallum.

  • @Scienceorc Yes - thank you. I know that George created Star Wars. I didn't claim otherwise, did I? I said 'I love Rick. He's ace'. I know him - he's a HUGE laugh and a great person. I am not a Star Wars fan and couldn't care less about it. Rick is getting a hammering on this thread so I thought I'd try and redress the balance.

  • @Scienceorc George created it, and destroyed it.. it's not him that made Star Wars so successful.

  • the biggest ? is WILL C3PO AND R2D2 BE IN THIS

  • But is every image dense? That is basic film criteria, after all.

  • What is it with Ricks!?

  • Comment removed

  • @OnlineGMPLZ no. just no.

  • @OnlineGMPLZ You are made of failure.

  • I love how he's such a rich bastard and yet talks complete sense!

Despite popular opinion, I don't think Lucas has lost his indie roots just because he's now the richest man in Hollywood. Maybe his idea of entertainment is a bit old-fashioned for modern audiences (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would've been as big as Star Wars if it had come out in the 70's), but he's not writing this series. As a producer, he's one of the most understanding because of his indie roots.

  • This would be PERFECT as a Kickstarter(.com) project! Think about it: There is a shitload of well-earning Star Wars fans out there (basically every nerd and geek out there). And doing it via Kickstarter would offer *complete* creative freedom. No stupid network boss telling you what to do! Finally, after being done, you could open-source it, since WE, the people, would be the financiers. All the 3D models and shit would be available for high-quality fan episodes. Risk: ZERO! Awesome or awesome?

  • @Evi1M4chine Exactly what this man said.

  • Comment removed

  • If Rick & Bubba have there name attached to this project then it is going to SUCK! Give this project over to highly experienced fans that will honor the spirit of the original films and not piss all over it like Rick in Bubba did with the prequals with the excepting of Clone Wars. Leave the Expanded Universe to the true die hards...

  • This guy is a fool, only good for kissing George's Hutt-sized ass

  • Is McCallum stupid?!? Is George following him?!? Look at what young film makers on YouTube are capable of achieving for hundreds and not millions of dollars without compromising neither quality or story telling! These guys are dinosaurs and should look forward to the way things can be made nowadays!

  • @darthlucas666 They're not dinosaurs for waiting to make the show affordable. Even the richest man in Hollywood can't afford to make a quarter-billion dollar TV show

  • The only chance that this show has of being any good is if someone sacks Rick McCallum. Honestly, let this guy jack off over someone else's childhood memories.

  • @Zebonka You mean the only chance of it being good is if Lucas has no say in its direction? McCallum is just the producer. A producer under Lucas is there to make sure everything is running smoothly. I guarantee the only creative input he has is "yes Mr. Lucas."

  • This video is so dense. so much is happening on the screen at the same time

  • The only parts I hated about 3 was how grevious was taken out, how easily anakin turned, and how ridiculous palatine looked

  • "Timeless" mmmm yeah no. I used to argue that 20 years ago more people will know Star Wars than Annie Hall (the movie that beat it for an Oscar that year), but since the prequels, the Star Wars movies will be remembered as once great movies turned to shit. That's not timeless, that more like how people remember a disaster.

  • Red. Letter. Media.

  • "So many digital characters"

    Gungans. Gungans everywhere.

    Talos have mercy on us

  • @TSCCepisodes Hahahahahahahahaha I rofld so hard

  • Who really cares about the build-up to A New Hope? I was only interested in the Prequels to see the Clone Wars and Anakin's Fall to the Dark Side. I was horribly disappointed on both counts and have no interest of any story continuing that faulty storyline

  • Wait a moment.

Wallstreet is run by EVIL greedy business people.

But Hollywood thinks 'nothing' of 100 million dollars?

  • @bloodrunsclear Hollywood is greedy yes, evil no. Key difference.

  • @ERoBB1

The crappy remakes of last year make me wonder...

  • @bloodrunsclear Yeah Rick McCallum is full of shit and he knows it. They could upfront the risk cost for that T.V. show easily they got more money than they can ever spend. Only reason they aren't doing the T.V. series right now is because they don't foresee maximum profits. Greed is the name of the business for Hollywood and Lucas Arts unfortunately.

  • Is it dense?

  • @DavidHolland22 OH SHUT YOUR FUCKING FACE!!!!

  • I'd rather have one superb Star Wars film like episode V than 50 tv shows.

  • I'll run through my street naked if you manage to kills jar jar binks in your series, I also want him to suffer.

  • least it will have proper stormtroopers in it,getting bit tired of seeing clones all the time in shows.

  • How bout you build a set once in a while? that way you could have great cinematography and not just do shot reverse shot crap

  • He's a yes man for George.

  • wish they would stop relishing on the past and start telling stories in the future. post NJO or Legacy era stuff.

  • By now I have little hope left this show will be on TV before I am old... :-)

  • if cost is an issue why not release straight to blu ray and dvd. theres enough star wars fans out there im sure to cover the costs and more and then let the tv chanels fight for it

  • Yet another stupid lefty that wonders why his vision is left on the cutting room floor

  • It's so dense...

  • I remember reading back in 06 that the show would release in 2008...

  • WHATS THE POINT. WE KNOW THE EMPIRE WILL END THERE IS NO DRAMA HERE. SIGH.

  • I have many critics against the precuels but hearing so many people ranting at this new tv series is just pathetic cause all of them will surely will go and watch it right away... but now it´s cool to say you won´t. Fuck it...

  • @NavasGonzalo "will go and watch it right away"

Much like a train wreck, we can't just look away.

  • It sounds like the best solution would be for Lucas to start his own cable channel. That way he can produce whatever shows he wants, however he wants and still retain ownership. He could also use the channel to broadcast whatver content he finds appealing, like classic serials, foreign films, indie films/series, etc., etc.

  • How dense will it be?

  • @Nero68

So dense every single image will have so many things going on.

  • gee here is an idea how about focusing less on making money, filling the screen with less CGI garbage and make a reasonable priced show that people actually want to watch,

There is NO way they will not fuck this up.

  • well this kind of sucks.

  • He keeps saying its not about the money but it sure sounds like that what it is ALL about.

  • The franchise has been fucked up before. Pray it is not fucked up further.

  • Srsly...Star Trek did it...BSG did it...Firefly...

list can go on and on...

Lucas is so focus on special effects.

Im pretty sure they could do it and if the story is good enough to rope in enough viewers then spend more money on more CG if you need it.

  • @VerbalRadiation Star Wars is completely different. It's pure fantasy, rather than grounded futuristic sci-fi. It would be like doing Game of Thrones in space.

  • @VerbalRadiation Besides, BSG had a very balanced production between cheap but great looking sets and CG space battles, with no aliens. Star Wars is a much more organic and everything is entirely different. BSG could still use old phones and books with corners cut off (effective for it's own storytelling, but Star Wars is the polar opposite)

  • Wait wait wait wait. There is going to be a Star Wars live action TV series? YES?!

  • Comment removed

  • "Every scene is so dense, there are so many things going on at once"

  • Well guys all of your opinions are valid but what says it has to be after the trilogy i want to see it maybe like star killer that would be nice to continue his story i mean really guys anything is possible they can still tell us of the background story's from all the other characters

  • watch Star Trek: TNG, learn from it, no 5 mill cgi budget needed.

  • The answer is simple: Let Bioware do it.

  • ...less Prequel crap and more Original Trilogy Epic stuff, THANK YOU!...

  • Here's an idea!

Step 1: Cancel "The Clone Wars" and use that money

Step 2: Cancel the shitty 3D re-releases of the prequel trilogy and use that money

Step 3: Make it more than 20% CGI

And boom you have a TV show.

  • Thanks for this video. Rick is a lot of fun to listen to. I always loved his segments on the Star Wars documentaries. Of course he is going to sell every project like it's the 2nd coming of star wars episode V, so what. Learn to read between the lines. I would like to know how this interview came about, where was it filmed, etc.? Seems to be in a cafe or restaurant? Did you just bump into him randomly? He seems very candid.

  • So, how dense will the show be?

  • He speaks about the problems they will face...but they dont or cant solve it....crap....

  • I can't wait.

  • Dear Mr Rick McCallum,

You are the personification of a bullcrap-talking producer stereotype and I can't stand the sight of you and the excrement that flows from your mouth.

You are partially responsible for spoiling Star Wars for never saying no to Lucas and sucking his dick so hard.

Please go and screw yourself, and take your who-gives-a-crap Star Wars TV series with you.

    Thank you.

  • Can't wait for this to air! Dark, gangsters, and star wars! I truly hope that because of the price tag they would be forced to go oldschool and use physical models and fx. I mean come on,

    Originals > Prequels.

  • I'll squeeze gats 'till my clips is empty.

  • Hopefully they treat it the way the Sarah Connor Chronicles was treated, so it feels believable and adds to the story and lore. I remember first hearing about a Terminator show and being like "No! It's a terrible idea!"...then I saw it and was like" Ahhh! I'm in love!" , hopefully thats the was thios one goes down...but more seasons than T:SCC :(

  • I'll do them.

  • There is no greater hive or scum and villainy than pRick

  • Oh hi Prick McCallum. I'm glad you're involved in this, seeing as though you are probably the single biggest contributing factor to the prequels sucking mega-dick.

Kurtz kept Lucas honest back in the day, and that should've been your job this time around. And what'd you do? You spent like 10 years fluffing him and saying 'whatever you want, boss'. Cocksucker.

  • "...5 million an episode, and that's because we have so many digital characters..."

*raises hand nervously from the back of the classroom*

Um, Mr. McCallum, why don't you go back to making physical props that look infinitely more realistic and cost less?

  • @RikkWolf No, that would generally cost more.

  • @RikkWolf And would be physically impossible.

  • ONE PROBLEM BETWEEN EPISODE 3 AND EPISODE 4 IS THAT.. THERE ARE NO JEDIS....

  • @tngnngmkyn False. They are just being hunted down.

  • @tngnngmkyn Theres obiwan and Yoda

  • @tngnngmkyn Not true, they just went deep into hiding. Darth Vader was hunting the remaining Jedi down one-by-one in the years between Episode 3 and 4, so It is very possible we will see Jedi, or maybe even Sith, on the show... but they will definitely be among the last of their kind. If there is anything the expanded universe of SW has taught us... there are ALWAYS force users lurking around

  • @Zulithe Jedi are possible, but Sith are not -aside of Vader and Palpatine-, because there can only be two of them at any given time.

  • 10 episodes = 50 Million. Lucas has that much in his back pocket.

  • Break even? The rating will go through the roof!

  • I hope it has 200 CGI things going on at once around fucking annoying main characters exchanging excruciatingly bad dialogue in a series of seemingly unconnected scenes.

  • @3rdAutisticCuckoo I hope you die...soon.

  • @volumedealer1 Gooood. I can feeeel your anger.

  • Gotta say, Rick McCallum seems totally down to earth and cool. You'd think he's be able to rein in some of Lucas's bad ideas. Unless... unless... OMIGOD. Unless he actually thinks they're good ideas. Dammit. I don't know what to believe anymore.

  • F#@% you, Rick Berman!

  • @Hofftastic "That ain't Rick Berman, what is it with Ricks"

  • Hmm I'm gonna give this series a chance, I find the concept of "Underworld" really interesting and everything else that happens throughout the galaxy (Hutts, bounty hunters, smugglers, the Empire)... everything that has to do with "a galaxy far far away"

Seriously I really need more Star Wars; The Clone Wars series sucked bad, and The Old Republic, well I'll get it someday (I just don't want to pay monthly xD)

if it sucks, oh well, I'll just have to keep hoping for Battlefront 3 ^.^

  • wow thats a really truthful insight to the industry at the moment, but its so negative I honestly cant even see this this getting off the ground at all now, and with the emphasis on saving costs and the heavy reliance in CGI still, I really dont care if it does gets made or not as a live action show, as the The Old Republic game intros and trailers have show, give the scripts to those guys instead and let them make them

  • This guy knows what he's talking about- I like that they are waiting rather than pushing out something crappy.

  • This whole thing sounds lame. Give me The Force Unleashed or Old Republic. Or more movies about Luke and the introduction of Jacen and Jaina Solo. Seriously.

  • Rick McCallum speaks the truth. Everything he's saying about the industry imploding is true. He's probably the only producer in Hollywood who's saying it.

    Good for him.

  • Every scene is so busy, every frame has so much going on.

  • What is it with Ricks?

  • I think they want this show to have the same quality as the movies, but CG in TV is just not up to par with films. I'm not saying that lots of CG is necessary, but it has to have believable alien characters to be Star Wars, and having them be actors in costumes (for example) feels too Star Trek. I think that we will be waiting a long time for this show. Maybe another decade!

  • I am cautiously excited. It could be awesome or it could be crap like the prequels.

  • When Rick said that the show was darker and more adult, my heart warmed a bit. I'm sick of all this weak Star Wars media that's tailored for younger audiences.

  • @Tropicanam It'll most likely be on Basic Cable..knowing Star Wars it'll probably be on Spike TV, he did mention HBO but I really don't see it being on HBO,Stars,Max,showtime for some reason. But I can't wait to see this!

  • Here's a solution: rely less on CG.

  • @dragonsegg100 this isn't Star Trek where they'll be nothing but talking, we're talking about Star Wars where there's action in every corner, it has to be CGI driven but I can see where you're coming from, from a cost point of view, im sure down the line somewhere in the middle their will be a good amount of CGI in it.

  • @Mocochangg But the original trilogy was done with practical effects, and packed with action, and it looks great today. they still need cgi in this new show, but they should also have practical effects. Practical effects are awesome, sometimes much better than anything a computer can produce. I say that they should mix the two. The best special effects are when you don't know how they did it, and the best way to do that is to perfectly mix practical and cg. This also helps reduce the budget.

  • @Scienceorc The original Star Wars wasn't 50 hours long.

  • @Haldered Yes, but they could still do it. They would actually reduce the budget that way.

  • @dragonsegg100 YES.. AND IF YOUR GONNA DO SOME CG MAKE SURE IT'S NOT DISAPPOINTING...
