Can you set a trigger for this to happen. For ex. If the effect is exported to an aircraft simulator, can this be triggered in by G-loading, and if so how?
"we always need an object to emit particles" thats what she said, lol, i dont know why that was funny, seriously though, really helpful tutorial, thanks alot. :)
Hey Josh, I just wanted to say how much I value your class support tutes on Blender. AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT. I've learned 80% of what I use Blender for from you :) The other 20% was on plain, gruelling experimentation, trial and a lot of error. Thank you for allowing the rest of us plebs to benefit from your methodical, clear, accessible instruction!
I was following this tutorial and i got to the part where we select random and choose volume instead of faces. When I pressed alt A, no particles were emitted. What is Wrong?
Unfortunately I suffer the same problem using 2.49, does anyone know what's wrong? Otherwise really great tutorial and explanation, Josh. Greetings from Germany.
@SloMoPiano i have 2.49b and 2.55 beta they work fine all i can say is make sure you followed the directions to the letter or modified them here and there i made the y-3 instead of 5 because the particles don't catch right away other wise for me
I'm also having troubles with the animation. I did exactly every single step you said (tho mine is a different version so it's hard figuring it out) and there was no animation. Do you know what i could possibly be doing wrong? I have version 2.45 I think.
Ummm...... How do you reselect the cube in Blender after you've put the Icosphere in? I tried all mouse buttons, B, and other stuff but I cant seem to reselect it. Too bad no one bothers to talk about that now do they?!?
I am having trouble with the collision. I can't get the particles to interact with the cube. I duplicated everything I see in your tut. I am using 2.47
Ok weird. My collision is not starting until frame 100ish Why would that be? It appears to be default., but I see not settings for that kind of thing...
Someone help pleasE!!!! I move the 3D cursor above the cube and I cant get my Pointer BACK!!!! and also i followed EVERYTHING, when i hit alt A nothing happens! Im like in tears im so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great tutoring! Could you think of making a tutorial of how to form/reform things from particles? For example a cube would fall on earth and then the pieces would jump up forming the cube again? I'd appriciate it alot.
You are Jim Halpert.

whenever I preview an object with a particle system, I can only see the particles, why?

I do this and it just appears to be light particles not solid sand particles.

Which version of the blender are you using?
I'm not sure how to help exactly based on what you have there. Try this for the cursor: Highlight an object and use shift-s --> cursor to selection.
jbeckneisdnet 3 years ago
Im using Blender 2.45 and that didnt work!!
zulonz 3 years ago
oh wait, I just downloaded 2.46 and now I can get my selector back.
zulonz 3 years ago
I am using 2.46 in this tutorial. There are some differences. Glad it's working!
jbeckneisdnet 3 years ago
@zulonz it's often useful to press '5' to change from ortho to perspective mode... i got lost this way a few times.
