  • I was just wondering if I could bother you with another question. I connected my unit to a yamaha keyboard and sound really good but I get too much of gliding effect when lift my fingers off the frets. This usually is the same when I play with the gr 33 alone with some patches like the grand piano. Is there a particular feature on tone or system I should either on or off the get a clean clear sound like yours? T

  • I been hearing all kinds of comments from people that uses the gk2 pick up saying that gr-33 is better. Of course that probably would not apply to our case with a piezzo pick up and a 13pin cord directly connected. I am just wondering if there was a better feature implemented on the gr-20 being a newer unit.

    Thanks, Rey Galindo.

  • @reygalindo If I could only have one of the two, it would be the gr-33. They track about the same, the 20 has a few sounds that are nicer... But as a whole, the 33 is far more flexible as far as splitting sound among strings, etc. If you were just using it for solo sounds, the 20 would be good. But if you want to split sounds, like I do with bass on the two low strings... The 33 is the choice. Can't do that on the 20. Having both is ideal. The 20 is all presets, little flexibility.

  • The gr-33 is better. I guess Roland figured they could sell more units of a cheaper, simpler synth. Once again marketing runs the show. They stuck in a few hot sounds to sell it. So yeah it has a few nice sounds that are not in the 33, but the 33 is a much more flexible all around device and has plenty of good sounds as well. I got the 20 first and after I discovered you couldn't split sounds across strings, picked up a used 33.

  • @meganote So glad I read this post. I almost bought the GR-20 - but the main thing I want to do is split the 5th and 6th strings on a bass sound. Thanks for posting this, guys!

  • Hi Meganote,

Thanks for your response to my question about the gr-33. I am kind of new to this aspect of equipment. I also have an rc-50 which is really useful and to play with.

I would like to ask you another question about the synthesizer units. Do you find any substantial difference between the gr-33 and gr-20 in regards to their features and tracking quality? Do you have a particular preference toward one or the other?

  • Great playing Sir. Pls could you let me know if you can control the guitar volume and VG 99 volume from the multiac?

We can only control the VG 99 from our multiac. Pls advise

  • mucha guitarra y mucho pedal para un mediocre

  • Good job, it goes to show you what about 3000 bucks worth of gear can do for you. Lovely solo, I didn't care too much for the strings though

  • YAY!
