The Avett Brothers old stuff is still there to listen to and it still has it's old effect on you.

The Avett Brothers are older and have experienced a lot of the years, their music is going to change with them. While I'm sure Rick Rubin had some influence on their new sound, The Avett Brothers said they would not let the label change what they wanted their music to be.

If you don't like the new stuff, then you don't like The Avett Brothers, because they made the new stuff own their own.

re: yellowballerinastar's comment: I was lucky enough to meet Scott Avett in Orlando this summer and someone told him that those guys in Kings of leon were assholes. Scott looked him in the eye, apologized for the Kings and said he had no right to be an asshole, sir. I don't see them discarding their roots or anything they stand for. Great stand-up gentlemen, every one. Listen to the album three more times and then decide. It's such great quality and fun too.

Just because a band joins a major label doesn't mean they "sell out". It doesn't change the lyrical stylings and the talent they have to play their instruments. I'm glad they went big so the world can get a taste of what good music really is because these days it's few and far between...

im glad the Avett Bros when big. They deserve it more than anyone. They put there heart and soul into there music and have never really wanted to be famous. But the chance came and there they are. God bless you guys and good ole North Carolina.

i've been listening to them for years. i miss the old sound but the new stuff is BRILLIANT. these guys deserve to be huge and rich for what they've given us. you can't expect them to live in a time capsule. are YOU the same as you were 5 years ago? everything evolves.

This song is great. I feel bad for those who listen to this brilliant band and long for them to sound exactly like they did five years ago. The Avett Brothers have grown and changed and improved and are stronger, more creative songwriters than they were in the past. They are crossing genre's more than ever, because they never saw themselves as a "bluegrass band" or "country band" or "folk band"....they write and play each song in the way they believe the song is best expressed.

Well, Carolina Jubilee is how I came to know the Brothers. But like Dylan said, "the times, they are a-changin'". They're not "our's" anymore, they're the world's and I absolutely think that is a beautiful thing. So come on boys, cheer the sad and break the bad. We're behind you. And BTW, this is my favorite song from I&L&U. Special.

I agree with you and lionandpsalter soooooo much! i miss those old days! i feel like all this new stuff like a major label and media exposure is just ruining them. i am SO scared that they are going to become the next kings of leon and become complete sell outs. =(
