I never knew they had a commercial for the Mobile Director option! These were VERY cool, although I never understood why this option was on the coupe and not the sedan. The option was based on a show car version, which had a faux fax and phone system and a few other goodies that did not make it to production. There are a few of these still running around, so cool!
The term Chrysler Imperials have ALWAYS been an issue, name-wise. But they were fierce competitiors for Cad & Lincoln...in spite of name recoginiton, a Chrysler was a near-cad/linc anyway. Just had better motors, handling and styling w/o all the fan-fare and glitz.
These are the most forgotten of all classic cars. I've been to hundreds and hundreds of car shows and I've probably only seen about 2 Imperials. I'd like to see a lot more!
This is not a Chrysler, it's an Imperial Crown, Chrysler is a separate make of automobile. You don't call a Lincoln, a "Ford" Lincoln, you don't call a Ferrari a Fiat........ "America's newest LINE of Prestige cars in a decade". Imperials were made from 1955 till 1975 by Chrysler Corporation as a separate make. For Example, DeSoto, Dodge, Plymouth, Eagle were all separate makes of Chrysler. You don't say...."Chrysler Dodge Charger", you refer to a Charger as a Dodge Charger..
@OsbornTramain You bought them at the Chrysler dealer, Imperials did not have their own dealerships like Dodge, Lincoln and so forth. So yes the cars were referred to as Chrysler Imperials. My folks bought one in 68' and 72.
@orange70383 Using that logic, why wouldn't you call a Plymouth Fury a Chrysler Plymouth Fury since Plymouth didn't have their own dealers? Imperials from 1955 till 1975 are separate makes NOT Chryslers!. Pre 55 or post 75, they are indeed Chryslers......
@orange70383 taking it one step further, then why wouldn't a Lincoln then be called a Lincoln Mercury Town Car or a Mercury Lincoln Montigo......Makes of cars can have duel makes. Nash's and Ramblers were sold at the same dealers as well as Hudson's and Ramblers......The VIN numbers of an Imperial only refers to it as an Imperial. from 55 to 68, they didn't even share plateforms, they were entirely different cars.
