  • Hail PirateBay...

  • I can't get Bill Maher in Australia, can't get it on cable, can't get it legitimately in a timely fashion. When they did have it on Australian TV briefly, it was on a four week delay, which defeats the point of the show. I steal Bill Maher's content because otherwise I wouldn't get to be a fan.

  • I could care less about ben, give me cenk!

  • Does anyone wonder how the first person get the movies for free before it's released on netflix, on dvds or whatever?

  • The fashion industry isn't falling apart and they have little to no intellectual property rights or protection, the industries that have more intellectual property protection do worse than industries with less protection. Today's copyright laws are outdated and limit the full potential of culture, expression, and even scientific progress. Music, film and art should be recognized and appreciated outside of profit driven industries. User generated content is being threatened and phased out.

  • fascinating ? 1 +1 =2 fascinating

  • So many Sites are pirated like thepiratebay, filesonic, mediafire,

but, why 1st shut down megaupload?

its politics, sopa is jalous to megaupload im right?

  • "isn't the the whole point (of megaupload) to upload files?" Have you ever been on the internet? That's kind of the whole thing.

  • The thing is, people that pirate usually wouldn't but that product in the first place, even if they couldn't pirate it.

  • yes the owner of youtube should be arrested as well on the same basis. it facilitates file uploading and there is pirated material being uploaded as well.

  • I'd pay for movies, music, books, comic books and videogames if they were significantly cheaper. However their prize in the international market is unrealisticly high. I§m not talknig about the prize value compared to their production but for their worth in general. I'm not willing to pay the full prize of a new video game for what they usually ask of me. It's just not worth it.

Making them cheaper would definetely attract more people to buy them.

  • I would pay for movies if they were good quality. Like if we didnt ripoff other countries movies left and right I would pay for movies.

  • this won't last in order to legally pass acta in the u.s. it has to be ratified by the senate and i don't think it will happen

  • The mega-upload fella got more time then a convicted murderer and rapist. The USA is fucked, seriously how is that a fair punishment, he didn't actually hurt anyone at all.

  • Can you imagine you walked into a car dealer and walked off with a Mustang Cobra without paying it? Could you imagine you got into a supermarket and just filled up your cart and walked out the store without paying? Oh right, that is tangible, that is 'real'. As long as it can fit on a hard drive it should be free. I am a struggling musician, I can only make money from performing, and that isn't easy. I can release songs but no label, no company will pay you unless you sell millions. Fuck u all

  • @philateliceun Of course it "isn't easy". And I know you don't understand this cause you make music in your shed, but once you actually make the charts and people start liking your music and you get some money, people are going to want to hear your music. Do you really think people pirate music from some fuck who makes it in their garage? No. Well at least I don't. I pirate GOOD music. And most of those artists make a hell of a lot more than I do, I'm sure it won't affect them that much.

  • "pirated material" the origin is usually leagally purchaced and then reproduced or 'shared'. i agree with making money but what this all boils down to is greed. which one of these movie buffs or musicians are dead broke due to megauploads??

  • idk if any one has said this yet or if anyone feels that this is revelant but my question is: Have you ever borrowed a cd or dvd or anything from someone for free? if your answer is yes then in a sence you are doing the same thing as doing online and getting a movie from an uploading site. to create

  • hate the sopa bill, they are going to pass this bill

weather or not we want to or not.

  • Newspaper are going out of business because they are obsolete. The people that provide the same information for "free" on the internet get paid through advertising and such and people use the internet to find information not because they want free shit but because it's way more convenient and a lot less opinionated and biased. And I don't mean people are more open minded online but you can find many different accounts of the same story and piece together the story for yourself.

  • You can google kiddie porn and watch it but when private files are shared it's wrong. What a strange world we're living in! This is hurting a lot of upcoming artists like underground techno DJ's I know a lot of. You can bet your ass if it wasn't for sites like Megaupload, we wouldn't be listening to David Guetta for example. So this is a great way for big record labels to maintain their monopoly on the market. I believe that's what this has been all about anyway.

  • This is like accusing gun makers because someone got shot. Fucking stupid.

  • That girl is so fucking smart...

  • people are stealing copy written material.. bfd banksters are scaming people from their investments, abusing government subsidies and breaking ethics every day.. how many of them have gone to jail?

  • Don't talk sh** if you don't know the full story.

Megaupload was killed cos what the dit. if 'guy1' uploads a file like a movie.

it will store the 1st file of 'guy1'. if 'guy2' comes and uploads the same ting it will not keep 'guy2's file if will give you the link to 'guy1'ns file and so on. now if the movie maker comes and makes a clame that that file/link is not correct they dit not Del the file the just Del the link and that is wij Megaupload was killed.

    PS: i am Dislexiq -_-

  • You see shamwow1996, people like you are the reason why some kind of law like SOPA will eventually get passed, those who want to sensor free speech and have political/corporate control over the internet like TV & radio will always have many allies who simply will back any bill that promises to help them to not get ripped off by those like you, and the economic toll of the mass theivery will eventually get the majority public on their side too, when that happens I hope your free shit was worth it

  • I'm not saying piracy is okay but Kim stated that only a tiny percentage of the files on MegaUpload were movies. He's fuckin innocent as well, the government are controlling everything, took away his funds, didn't give him his own lawyer. Fuckin shot.

  • Any file that violated copyrights was deleted from MegaUpload when they found out about it... Does the dumbfuck government know that?!?!!? Kim can do so much for NZ, yet they want to take him out of NZ... Shot... Fuckin Ben mankiewicz is a fuckin dumbshit who doesn't know shit. Thank god for Ana for having true logic. There are a lot of piracted activity on YouTube, if not directly shown, there are guides on how to get pirated shit... Thank God for anonymous and fuck you to all you dumbfucks.

  • The movies out and people just want them then Apple have a bright business idea of how advertisement money will come to Apple instead of to Google but using Google. Apple needs to be successful for that kind of thinking, so do artists and producers and Google. Modern people, who aware of their own laziness, don't want to be stuck for other people's laziness or capable people get hindered and just for that our economy shares a big evolution last century.

  • IF IT NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT!

  • I'd say that that Maher-comment is the one that made me the most disappointed in how much CNN he watches & shit, but there are a few too many I recall to be so absolute.

C'mon Maher, you should've read about the bill, for all the (correctly so) "you don't know what you're talking about" to conservatives, you should definitely be better.

Fuck all them media-companies. Ask Steam how much money they're loosing, look at their numbers.

  • Poor Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or Mr. Maher, I heard due to piracy they are living in boxes now because they are losing so much money, they moved in right next to Tom Cruise and James Cameron I heard =[

  • @dEEdUURdUUR Oh yeah cause everyone who makes movies and music is a millionair. Stop living in your childish world and understand that these industries really suffer from piracy. But anyway, just wait till the quality goes down so much due to the fact that nobody wants to invest money anymore. You know why they say movies and music was way better 30 years ago?? Cause there was money to be made, you could experiment cause you would make money, now it only costs money to produce films or music.

  • If you can get stuff for free, why pay for it?

  • @shamwow1996 Exactly, if I can borrow a book from a friend, why should I go out and buy a new one?

  • @greyglee because people worked hard on that book and it's their job and they would like to get paid for their work.

  • @shamwow1996 If people won't pay for your book, movie, or song then who is paying you? who is paying the camera men, grips, electricians, caterers, carpenters, printers, production crew, record store workers, distributors, ect.? In short why should they work on the product if it is okay not pay them for it? SOPA wasnt the answer for the problem, but online piracy is a problem, does hurt the nation economically, and will eventually be dealt with.

  • @22steve5150

" and will eventually be dealt with."

    No it won't.

    NOTHING can stop it.

  • @22steve5150 I don't give a fuck who worked hard to make it, I just don't want to spend my money on it. I'm selfish. So are the millions of other Americans that pirate material. The government can try to stop it, but all they're gonna do is make it harder to obtain. But we will find a way. So you have fun paying tons of money for things that you can get for free. Cause you're the one getting ripped off.

  • @shamwow1996 "I don't give a fuck who worked hard to make it, I just don't want to spend my money on it. I'm selfish. So are the millions of other Americans that pirate material. " WOW just go fuck yourself you cunt. So if somebody steals your car you are ok with that? NO just as long as you don't suffer from it you don't give a shit. You are a filthy lazy cunt who deserves nothing, and you will probably get nothing with your despicable attitude pathetic pigs cunt.

  • @philateliceun Of course I wouldn't be okay with someone stealing my car, cause I only have one. It's my only car. Popular musicians have easily in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. If someone took $1.29 from them, they probably wouldn't even notice.

  • @22steve5150 I'd rather rip other people off than have myself be ripped off. But hey, that's just me. . . .

  • Stealing copyrighted material is serious? Really now? That's absolute bullshit. You basically just said that stealing a penny is serious. Stealing isn't serious. I've seen 3 year old kids steal, it can't be that serious.

  • @kendon0923 The problem with SOPA is much deeper than that. Bill Maher is wrong because he over-simplified. It's not about people "stealing", it is a about the fact that copyrights are now used to make ordinary people into "thieves". Internet censorship is not the root of the problem. The problem is the supreme court extends copyrights to 90 years so Time-Warner, who purchased the rights to "Happy Birthday" can keep making $2 million per year from royalties every time someone sings it in public.

  • Bill Maher is right it is stealing. America has a problem with stealing all the way from Wall Street to Main Street. Ultimately the man on the street will end up losing the most.

  • I used to like Bill Maher, now he can go fuck himself.

  • i never agree with ben

  • If I made a film, and everyone saw it for free, I'd quit. Fuck taking out huge loans to dish out chunks of cash to the cast and crew, take a huge risk for something I -hope- would be beautiful, work my ass off, and put my heart into it. In the end, the critics and everyone might love it, everyone working got paid, everybody saw it for free, but I'd be broke, and nobody'd give a shit about me. I'd say 'fuck the moochers, I can take loans to invest in anything else,' and movies will all die.

  • @rrrrrrrush People who don't pay artists are enemies of art.

  • @rrrrrrrush no less than people who make "art" just to make money.

  • @hardforatard It depends on if you think everyone who makes "art" is an artist, or if only some people, by their nature, are artists. If everyone is an artist, then everyone should have a 9-5 job, and create art as a hobby. However, if there -is- something different between Michelangelo and and every kindergardener, to where he (apply past) should be making art, so as to contribute something to humanity, he needs a patron to afford him the opportunity to make art.

  • @rrrrrrrush If he takes that risk himself and is his own patron, he needs to be able to afford to eat, and to be able to pay rent.

  • @rrrrrrrush all art is viewed subjectively so what i think an artist is is irrelevant. michelangelo is a bad comparison to the current state of mainstream art. despite pirating, mainstream artists have no problem paying their rent. and unless you already have a substantial amount of money and/or the support of well known figures/companies, it's highly unlikely one would even get that far whether or not pirating even existed.

  • @hardforatard Being an artist is simply an occupation. Just because the artist gets to (hopefully) do something they love, that doesn't mean that at the end of the day they don't have to make ends meet.

I'm sure mainstream musicians, for example, have little trouble paying the rent due to merchandising, concerts and cd sales, but how about you consider their lesser known counterparts? Independent and struggling artists have a very hard time earning any sort of income whatsoever..

  • @musicalrt being an artist can be an occupation. i would attribute the bulk of difficulties struggling artists have with the state of mainstream art and our culture. our society doesn't appreciate art as much as it appreciates money for various reasons and that's why i think piracy is such a thorn in the side. then again, i'm not a fan of capitalism, so it's just my take on things.

  • @hardforatard ...and surely internet piracy affects them for the worse.

  • Pay to watch it in the theater, but once you have a copy, you should be able to upload it anywhere for free.

  • Comment removed

  • He thinks that news shouldn't be put out on the internet for free... so by the same token maybe we should shut down Wikipedia. people still want to watch the news etc because its reliable.

Should information about our world be limited to those who can afford to pay for it?

    SHIT NO, ass can.

Yes piracy of films music and games is bad but saying that information about the world needs to be paid for is bullshit.

  • if your taxes pay for wars, then why should you have to pay to receive information about the efforts? that'd be like paying your kids to tell you how their day went at school.

  • @jsaic You technically do have to pay for information about your education. If you want an official transcript, they ask you to pay up.

  • Newspapers fail because they're antiquated. You don't hear anyone lamenting that no one uses horse carriages anymore, because that's an obviously regressive stance. This is no different, people are just taking their sweet time realizing newspapers are inferior.

  • argue all you want, its so damn true though people just don't want their 'right to free shit' taken away. i'll admit it, i couldn't care less about the 'infringement of free speech' nor do i think it will even cause it but i am concerned that my itunes/netflix bill is going to increase. lets be honest guys.

  • ''people shoudnt pirate stuff, it's stealing, thats why SOPA is good'', well.... dick head.... most of us cant't afford their high prices, but this isnt the point. Acts like ACTA, SOPA, PIPA, don't just intend to stop pirating, they want to wiretap every website for ''shared'' information, and fine or imprison those who, ''share'' information. Fuck off and read on this, corporations arent looking for more ''fairness'', they want to DOMINATE the internet with products, or sue you ;D

  • 1:47 WTF? even if mega was a mafia (which was not), go after drug's buyers instead instead of going after the drug's dealer?

  • its not their fault their users uploaded illegal content

  • somebody kick this guy off the tyt team, he is fucking retarded

  • FUCK YOU MEGAUPLOAD IS BOSS <3 LET MEGAUPLOAD STAY ALIVE

  • Concern yourself with ACTA.

This bullshit was already signed by many countries.

  • @schlegelt What countries? So I know where not to go. :/

  • @shamwow1996 Australia, Canada, USA, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

It's been signed, but it seems no country has ratified it yet. Some EU countries have frozen ratification, which could kill ACTA (at least in EU).

  • @shamwow1996 in isreal, india, pakistan are not go.. im right

  • Think of it this way, if the "content providers" want to play "Whatever the market will bear" then they have to accept that sometimes the market will bear ZERO.

Look up Humble Bundle on your favorite info engine, they made $9 MILLION by making payment OPTIONAL!

Even if "providers" don't want to go that far, they could at least lower the prices to where "piracy" costs more than buying.

And what's with calling it "piracy"? That's what Somalis do, not sharing something they bought!

  • Comment removed

  • wtf is this "pirated material", i think she meant "copyrighted material". because someone pays for a movie, a game and then shares it with people, that's what it is.

  • FACEPLAM SHOWING THAT LAST

  • SOPA and PIPA Shouldnt even be inconsideration when was the last time our Govnment did the Will of the People Corporations run capitale hill dont kid yourselfs thinking that our reps are doing what they were voted in to do, think of it why do you think this bill was on the board to be voted on its almost election time shut that down and you lose any other point of view and it wont be pirated material its a illusion look that way and they do the opposite

  • Bill Maher is kissing HBO's ass. HBO, NBC & the older networks are the worst. They have an army of people searching the internet ripping down clips on youtube 24/7. Even if you watch NBC on TV its free. You don't need cable to get NBC. NBC is protecting its advertisers & HBO is protecting its cable providers who sell HBO as a premium channel or "bundle" it w/other "packages". Not about free speech. The smart owners of copyrighted material should be wise & just let it go as free advertising.

  • Im sorry but SOPA and PIPA has nothing to do with Pirated Material,it has to do with shutting down the last open Media in the USA if any one is paying any attention to the main stream media its a propaganda machine do a little investigation which you can do online on who the parent companys that owns the Main Stream Media these corporations dont want a repeat of what happened in the last election, Also the Law was Broken Here and it wasnt Megu

  • I think Maher has a point about the motives of MANY of the people who wanted to stop SOPA/PIPA, but not all of the people, in fact not even most, want free movies and music(etc). Some of us can actually predict that this is a huge fringe on our rights to share content with each other, that major networks would like a piece of.

  • TYTs are woefully out of touch with reality.

Please ACTUALLY research the topic before you comment on it. Ben; I'm talking to you.

  • I love Bill, but the fact he was ignorant about the SOPA and PIPA bills was really fucked up. If you haven't read the bill, then why do you even support it? It makes no sense. Isn't that what Republicans do, you know, not read? If he understood what was in the bill and how it will destroy the internet, then maybe he wouldn't have said that. Even if he did, i would immediately boycott his show.

  • If the government gave a fuck about piracy it would have been passed years ago... It's definitely about censoring the internet.. as well as NDAA controlling every other aspect of free speech and opinion.

  • Oh....Ben, so I'm "stealing" all my news? I guess I should stop watching TheYoungTurks then...OH WAIT ITS FREE ON PURPOSE. We don't STEAL our news, we get it from places that offer it for free. Just like your show seems to do. Genius.

  • Bill Mahr....he's the liberal Bill O'Rielly.

"Hey I haven't read this material, but I'm going to give my opinion on it anyway on national television."

  • Bill Maher ADMITS his ignorance, and then goes ahead and spouts bullshit. Ben did the exact same thing. There are already laws in place to protect copyrighted material. Clearly the FBI did not need SOPA to crush MEGAUPLOAD. So the enforcement is there. You don't sue Toyota because they facilitated me owning the Camry that rammed into you. You sue me. You don't shut down a bank and all its branches because I deposited $20 I stole from someone. That's just fucking stupid, just like Ben and Bill.

  • In the music market, for example, in the UK every mp3 seller (like iTunes) charges 79p per track. I thought cartels were illegal. If there was proper competition that price would drop and, given the minimal costs involved, it would drop to a level that piracy would become totally irrelevant.

Outlaw the cartels, there would be no significant piracy

  • I can't be the only one noticing that most of the SOPA/PIPA supporters start off their arguments with, "I don't understand how this all works, but..."

Imagine if your surgeon said, "I don't understand what this pancreas thingy does, but I'm pretty sure it's got to come out."

  • @LividImp Excellent analogy.

  • If someone commits an offense with a gun... do they shut down the gun makers???

     NO!

  • @stuartjamesgemmell they are not judging mega for manufacture your guns people shut with, but for not stopping them after been warned of this...

  • @stuartjamesgemmell

they dont have to pay much if somebody gets killed, illegal downloads coast billions of dollars all around the world...

  • As far as i know i only now stuff about Marijuana for free because at any public place they would just say its a drug and it kills people... but is it? Thats how great the internet is!

  • As far as I know "The shit" is free everywhere. GFY

  • I've heard of so many people who had their thesis material and other important stuff backed up on Megaupload. Gigs of it. It's convenient since your co-authors can access it everywhere. This bill and taking out Megaupload won't stop piracy at all. Why? Because the pirates will find a way around it. Meanwhile the non-pirates are suffering as well as the site hosts who've basically didn't do anything wrong. If anything they should refer the pursuers to their license agreement with their users.

  • Megaupload just didn't care to be honest. I don't think they were planning on piracy, it was nice to have it for them ofcourse as it created revenue but in the end that was not their point. They wanted to create a filesharing service and make lots of money and they did. Fuck you if you think that service should be denied due to piracy.

  • What's up with the subtitles? I had them on by accident, or rather youtube turned them on with out my asking for it, and they actually were pretty good. Still many mistakes a reasonably competent human wouldn't make, but a thousand times better than the indecipherable subtitles I'm used to from youtube.

  • Ben please leave the young turks you know nothing.

  • Ben moron - he wants to be FUCKED by corporation, look t him bend over O.o

  • Yes the fact that hollwood's is losing money has nothing to do with all of the crappy remakes they have.made. yet a movie like the lion king made more money at the movies then it did in 1993 befor people were downloading..if you make a good movie people will pay for it..if you don't like in the case of bill maher. then you want. make any money

  • It's a completely fair point & obviously TYT recognize that it's not that whole story and there's other issues that make it a bad law. I admit it. I like getting shit for free and do with the internet. Though there's little evidence showing such piracy seriously harms those corporations. Geez, you'd think with the high dislike count on this video that they were something critical of Ron Paul in it. I guess haters gotta hate.

  • Yeah like i'm going to pay 10 dollars to itunes for a movie and itunes makes 3 to 4 dollars on profit just for providing it for download i hate big coorporations megaupload ruled

  • If they didnt arrest bank ceo for stealing the bailout money which was millions of dollars why would they arrest people for pirated stuff online? its not like movies arent making millions in box office and dvd sales. id say almost everyone still buys movies and cds so why are you wasting time and money on this b.s. could it be... censorship? slowly taking away the first amendment? total control by corporations?

  • wow first ever tyt video i dislike. please don't make me do it again!!!

  • there is such a thing known as greed in this world and bill maher was right to point it out. however he did not point out the correct people. if a giant corperation is making millions why do they need billions? if they censor the internet does this mean people will buy the movie? or will it just be another not seen movie?

  • I met an asshole once who said: "If piracy is ok, then people will just steal a book and put their name on it.". I'm imagining these are the sort of arguments you'd get from these old people in Congress who never went near torrent and file sharing sites. I just read a pirated version of Neutronstar. I still know it's written by Larry Niven, you dumbas. I've yet to come across a torrent that has false authors. Why would anyone slap his name on another book which they can't make a profit of?!

  • Bill Maher will state in his show how he sucked 6 donkey dicks, if you pay him enough...

  • we should pay for news..? save the newspapers? sounds like Ben is stuck in 2005... the only people who are "outraged" about the demise of the New York Times work for the New York Times..

  • @Theroha: yeah he's allright. I dont mind them asking him for an opinion now and then, but not as a host.

  • I use Megaupload to share my own videos with friends. Now what? Why am I punished? I need to go and look for a new provider because some idiot put copyrighted material there. So what? Why do I need to be a slave of the media corporations?

  • Liberals like the young turks shut down megaupload

  • @francisGish What? lmao

  • @francisGish please elaborate ;I can't wait to see where this goes

  • @MrJarvishead yes, because a tv and a few megabytes are the same thing... genius.

  • Soon CBS will sue NBC for stealing viewers, And WIN?

  • Comment removed

  • bill maher does have some truth on to what he says.

  • megaupload was obviously pirating material and they got the boot. It's a risk that you take when you operate such a website. Napster didn't last, did it?

  • if i have to start paying to watch TYT specifically. I wont.

  • i make music but my music isnt a chocolate bar. I can let the whole world consume my music and it will still be there for me. That is the difference. Theres no stealing, anyone who calls it stealing has never made something. There is "stealing" involved with almost every creative product.

  • @jasondesante your music probably has no "value"to anyone then you as soon as someone makes a million with your song and you don't get a cent i bet you will feel different about it

  • Most people missed the point, its that Megaupload should be shut down WHEN it is found guilty. From what I see the USA govenement just force their laws on to other people, i.e. lock them up then ask questions. Funny when they say Freedome and Justice, firstly it is not justice because it has not been proven, secondly, no Equality at all when they won't touch their own big companies.

  • @blade9z The thing i hate the most is that the guy (megaupload owner) isnt a US citizen and he doesnt live in the US, so why the fk they have the right to arrest him?? Can u imagine a south american judge trying to arrest a US citizen Wallstreet man for fraud??

  • @lmchucho its funny because the US caused a huge economic crash by bailing out wall street and if this continues (the bailing out of large corperations, banks, etc) we'll have a giant depression not just in the US but the world because the US is the super power of the world. Technically other countries should have the right to arrest wall street members. This giant war with online pirates is just a distraction for internet users because we are a large community with a lot of influence...

  • @punishshot Thats what i am saying, those guys not only caused an economical crysis on the US it spread to the whole world, so any judge from any country should have the right to arrest them... But no, USA believes in freedom, freedom to do whatever they want to others and to say no to every request another country does. Then people is shocked that a great portion of the world HATES the US.

  • watching a movie isn't, has never been and can't be stealing. selling a copy is. if you give it away for free that can't be a crime. if it did, everything anyone has ever drawn, wrote, composed, filmed, built or programmed is illegal because they used someone else's technology for their benefit or simply for fun. in that case every cover song is illegal and every movie remake is illegal. but they're not because they bring in the $

  • imagine if you could ask for a refund if you hated the movie you were watching. it should be the norm just like you wouldn't pay for a sandwich that tastes like shit. movies are such crap these days. people pay for crap and are happy about it. maybe the industry is right when tries to take the money from such imbeciles.

  • Not sure how they could take down the Megaupload guy when SOPA hasn't passed yet.

  • Also Bill Maher's stance on SOPA sounds a little conservative, he's a lost cause folks!

  • I was wondering why this video got so many dislikes then I saw Ben's remarks about SOPA and it sounded pretty much the same as some 70 year old right wing congressman that has difficulties with using a computer would say. Nevermind Bem that if SOPA becomes law that companies like News Corp would do everything they can to remove your tiny online news show.

  • they real problem ist that the corporates think people will buy when they are not able to steal it anymore. NO THEY WILL NOT!!!! THE CORPORATES WONT EARN A SINGLE DOLLAR MORE. BUT VERY POSSIBLE EVEN LESS. ESPECIALLY THE INDEPENDENT ARTISTS. as suddenly they have to pay for market exposure instead of getting it for free/viral on the internet. so in the end it will even cost the artists more while they earn less caus fuckin nobody knows them, thus nobody buys their records anyways.

  • @mademoisellenoir Netflix, Hulu, Sling, & other paid media distribution/access services do extremely well. Netflix & OnDemand drove Blockbuster to the brink of death, not Megaupload & Limewire. Many news services & independent media (podcasts, live webcasts, streams, etc) also have premium programs that also make money. There is also a very large amount ad-based media content that is also quite successful. It's quite clear that many people absolutely would pay for content, myself included.

  • This is the equivalent of throwing a party and instead of 100 people showing up 100 million show up. You can't blame the person throwing the party for the people that do bad things. Furthermore, Megaupload had easy to find links that allowed you to report copyright content and that content would be immediately removed. I am no lawyer but i would have had the charges dismissed immediately

  • I sing a song, some Somali listens to it in Africa for free, i send the interpole after him.

    Awesome

  • people still pretending that the reason their unhappy with the takedown of megaupload isn't because they wanted free stuff? lol. atleast admit it ffs.

  • 3:49 Here Ben is talking about the TYT research and news department.

  • @TheCarambah

TYT doesn't do news. What you refer to as their "research and news dep't" consists of 3 or 4 people picking and choosing parts of stories reported by other organizations that fit the narrative they try to sell, and ignore other viewpoints. They don't provide second sourcing, let alone source verification. They provide little or no context, and at times mislead. Honestly, nobody but their small yet impressionable group of followers take them seriously

  • We already have anonymous alternatives, they're in the deep web and out of the Government's reach.

  • @zwiiyt It was also used for a TON of legit material. Don't be ignorant, it makes any point you're trying to make, completely invalid.

  • On the topic of Ben agreeing with Bill Maher: It's natural, Ben's family is deeply involved with Hollywood. His grandpa wrote Citizen Kane. Not kidding.

  • Kim Schmitz was already a thief, traitor, fraud, false advertiser, impostor, insider trader and briber before the whole Megaupload thing. He's also a self-opinionated arrogant twat who leads a preposterously decadent lifestyle.

Not sure how many interviews he's given in English, but I'm from Germany and the German stuff I saw him appear on, he was always unbearable.

HOWEVER, what happened to him is still outrageous. Even fans of TYT shouldn't do the rich = invariably evil thing...

  • I've gotten about 50 movies off of bit torrent sites and have paid about $560,000.00USD to cable/video rental companies for their shitty programming, short lists of GOOD relevant movies (not just Hollywood shit). If i was to download Blu Rays from now until I was 60 i wouldn't ever get all my money back so... who's the REAL victim?

  • PIRATING music has turned me into a BUYER of music I like an appreciate. I'm not going to pay 15 to 20 bucks for a CD when I only have a 30 second preview of select songs, not to mention only a small scope of the artist out there. Because I have the internet and file sharing sites I can sample a large variety of different types of music that I'd never find elsewhere. The ones I really like, I buy. Otherwise I'd never buy any CD, ever.

  • @teachm3539 He's very self righteous. He's also quite often an asshole. But to me thats half his charm. That and the fact the most of the time he's right. But everyone gets it wrong once in a while.

  • EVERYTHING I WRITE IS COPYRIGHTED. Every program I CREATE could be used or "stolen" and I don't mind! After all, can I PROVE that I am the FIRST PERSON to come up with an IDEA among BILLIONS of others that could have created THE SAME THING?

THIS POST is copyrighted if I say so! OK, it is!

  • Read some of the indictment today that the MEGA "Conspiracy" are charged with, all i can say is, its probably possible that one tenth of humans on this planet can also be charged with those indictments as well.

  • The sopa bill is another tactic from congress to convince people it's more important to go after kids who download songs than their overlord corporations who steals billions.

  • wow, this is a bad rating ^^

  • There are those out there who hate SOPA because it will limit file sharing and piracy, but many, such as myself, do not partake in such ventures (not because I think it's wrong, I just don't) and my issue with the bill is how far it overreaches in order to make it's functional point. SOPA is like giving every police force in the united states the right to kick down your door because you're growing your own food instead of buying it from wal-mart. That is the fundamental issue. MONEY.

  • @GermAmp55 Well put and you are exactly right.

  • @GermAmp55 although I agree with most of your statement, food being grown in your back yard is not equatable to buying a "copy" of movies made by people who sell it...you actually bought your seeds and planted it and grew it and ate it. You didn't do that with the music or videos

  • The irony of TYT bemoaning the loss of newspapers :( They're my primary source of American news

  • Fuck Bill Maher.

  • "we steal everything" That's why we have commercials, no one going to pay for anything media related anymore.

  • Can anyone else see the Israeli propaganda Commercial?

  • typo @ title...

  • Lets hear the scum tell everyone that if you turn off the ads during a program YOU ARE STEALING. Tell the corporations that get bailed out THEY ARE STEALING. Tell the corporations that pay for false reviews taking people money under false pretenses THEY ARE STEALING. A SIGNIFICANT point of broad band - IS TO STEAL. 90% of new technologies rely on old inventions - is that STEALING? While Britain and the US were developing THEY IGNORED COPYRIGHT - so IF YOU ARE POOR ITS OK? And I could go on...
