I still dont understand cricket, what happens after they hit the ball, you do run bases or what. Why do they have to catch the ball before they go out of bounds, and what happens if you catch the ball before it hits the ground, is he out?

If you catch the ball before it touches the ground, he is out. If the ball reaches the boundary, the batsman scores 4. If it reaches the boundary without hitting the ground first he scores 6. If the batsman can run to the other wicket before the ball is returned, he scores 1 for each run.

The batsman will decide whether to run or not depending on his chances of reaching the other end in time, and whether he thinks he has hit the ball hard enough to reach the boundary, so he doesn't need to run.

I wicketkeep and goalkeep. I've watched Van der Saar train with Fulham and Jonty Rhodes train with South Africa. There is no comparison, the top cricket fielders and keepers are far far better shot stoppers than football goal keepers, and if in cricket we can reach something then we HAVE to catch it, you can't just palm it. Football keeping is 80% postitioning and deciding when to come for balls
