  • Thank you so much, I have a CQ61 I am going to troubleshoot and its good to review before tearing into it.

  • okay, i have a presario c500 and im trying to take the screen off to repair the inverter, but i can't get the bezle off. does anybody know how to get it off? i couldnt find any videos on how to do it.

  • Muppet!

  • My personal tip: As you take the unit apart, store the parts aside in the order that you've taken them apart. That way the right parts in order as you put it back together and you kinda know what goes next.

  • Overheat board problems are common. The sophisticated soldering of the chips to the board basically comes loose by melting the solder via the overheat. Search ebay for your board number XXXXXX-001 or very similar. Found on sticker on the mother board. You will find some sellers that reflow/resolder the chipsets with a sophisticated hot air station. Pick a better pro. Costs run $80-$120 or so and it'll be a better connection than new and likely not happen again. Best option for the buck, IMHO

  • Also factory service manuals for this series and other support here:

    h10025(.)www1(.)hp(.)com/ewfrf/wc/prodTopCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&document=&lc=en&product=3284347&dest_page=product

  • Just beware, modern and later model CPU's and the like including this nVidia video chipset run hot and when reassembling the fan/heat sink you'll wanna use a thermal compound, Tutorial: fonerbooks com/r_cpu.htm

  • Thank you very much for this video, it was very helpful! I have a Compaq presario CQ60 laptop (since 3 yrs) and I love it, but there has been a heathproblem since it was new and it getting worse. It turns off itself after a while. Will try to fix it now, there is nothing to lose, coz I cant use it as it is now anyway.

  • @Rolexus100 buy a spray with compressed air in it. It worked for me. But be verry carefull how you spray it!

  • WTF WHITH THIS TOOL

  • can i change my video card ? for the same laptop u have

  • my 1 shuts down after 2 hours and it anoying

  • i never saw so big screwdriver before :)

  • anyone who has this laptop. how do you make tha fan quieter. ;l mines always running and ive turned it off in the bios settings

  • @DeadPea Please don't disable the fan. Permanent more expensive damage likely to occur. I know it sux, but see my post above about board repairs. This video can more or less walk you through pulling the board.

  • Great videos. It really helped me take apart my laptop but I have a question...

I know this is a old video and maybe you don't have the this model anymore but if you do can you tell me how to take apart the monitor or more precisely how does the screen lighting switch on because i have the problem that it only switches on if i open my laptop to the limit or press the monitor lightly down. Hope you or someone can help.

  • Ok well I did this and then i put it back together then when i started it up fan goes on everything goes on fine except no display (at all) i reset the bios and it fixed it but then when i go to play a game it worked for like 10 secon then the screen froze and on the left were black lines flash and then the screen went black pc stayed on this has also happened in google chrome when on facebook. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Im not good with computers but i think its a graphical issue.

  • thanks for the video, Davin, but let me issue a caution to anyone who owns this laptop: don't try this at home!

I damaged the ribbon connected to the power button ($25 used), broke the plastic fasteners on the keyboard cover ($10 used) and broke a key off the keyboard (13.00 new)

I purchased the CQ60 new for about $375 in summer of 2009. I just had to spend $48 to get it operable again. If you need to clean the fan, used compressed air. Same for the keyboard. Otherwise leave it alone!!!!

  • thanks you been a great help

  • are the screws all equal? i mean; can i mix them all; and the will fit anywhere!?

  • your supposed to take the keyboard off first so you don't rip/break the ribbon wires..you need to learn these things before you make a video

  • . ▲

  • brother, i have the same laptop, but my screen aint working, its not cause of the battery, cause everything except the screen works..

    what could be the problem?

i linked the laptop to an extern monitor, but yet again without succes

  • @Emrah68 when you hook it up to a tv or monitor you need to hold Fn (bottom left) then press the source button a few times which is normally F4. Cycle through that a few times. If you get image on your external monitor then it is your backlight that is gone

  • I wish HP would follow Dell and Lenovo, as they have a separate door for the cpu/fan, so you DON'T have to remove everything.

  • @MayoPie ohh how life would be soo much more simple if that were true... i might try and make a door for it and use duct tape after :)

  • HELLO EVERYONE THIS IS A TUT......

    just relax! .

  • @ivanzegt I know right? Plus how do I triforce D:? ▲ ▲ ▲

  • This guy should not be making any videos or how to On pcs. This guy should be making license plates.

  • very, very helpful. thanks!

  • how do you fix black screen

  • hey i need pictures for Motherboard compaq cq i have problem on Motherboard on Resistance 1066

if you know this Resistance please send me picture

    thanks

  • hahahaha

  • I have a CQ61. I took it apart to clear dust, before watching this video, and somewhere along the way two wires came lose and I have no idea where they fit. They come from the monitor, 1 grey, 1 black and have 1 & 2 on them. Metal bits on end. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks

  • @95ina95 Might be dust in the vents. Buy a can of compressed air, or try blowing really hard through the vents and see if that helps

  • how did u take out the dvd drive as i want to replace mine???

  • how do you change the dc jack

  • On the CQ 50/60 three of the screws inside the battery bay hold the keyboard in place. There are two "tabs" on each side of the keyboard holding it in place. It's a sort of snap fit. There is a "power button board" and ribbon cable attached underneath the piece that the power button is attached to. The connector that connects the power button ribbon to the motherboard can be a pain to figure out. The tiny clip on the connector flips up to disconnect ribbon, flips back down to reconnect ribbon.

  • dunno why your trying to get the hard drive out like tht for...thts what that ribbon is ther for...you pull it to the side using that ribbon you messed with

  • I just pulled the hard drive out of a Compaq Presario 2700US. It's behind the DVD ROM drive on the side (the side away from the battery and RAM). You can't access it from the back, only from the side.

  • @BigMarkusFella No, at that point you would want to completely replace the screen of the computer it self. Just go to ebay and buy a new screen and replace it as seen in video four.

  • @DavinDaGeek no he can just replace the inverter for like 6 dollars instead of 60 for a screen, dnt give out advice to people about things you dnt kno a lot about

  • How to change the lcd screen pls..

  • @DCella650 That should be in video four or three of this tutorial.

  • Great video !

  • Hey HOW ABOUT TAKING A PART CQ60 laptop battery ?

  • @playstation2bigs Checkout the rest of the videos. This is only video one. I couldn't fit everything into one video when I first made this.

  • hahha i have exact laptop and i took it apart and it was really EASY. and thanks 4 the video

  • no as much as your mom liked to get all spitty last night. And she is relatively cheap so I could get a pack of smokes after. didn't want to break a 20.

  • @HeroOfTime1990 Good, now take the rest of that money you have and get your some English and Grammar classes ,cause you can really use them.

  • dude, this video sucks

  • @HeroOfTime1990 I guess that's why your mom likes it...

  • Thank you. I don't know much about PCs but this step-by-step tutorial helped me to flawlessly remove parts of my HP Presario CQ60. Thanks again!!

  • thanks lot for the vid.. i had to replace my dc jack board and this vid prob saved me at least 150 dollars.

  • I have a Compaq Presrio CQ42, is it applicable?

  • Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to post these videos. I needed to simply take off the bezel and keyboard so I could re-seat the video cable, and this video helped me. Thanks again!

  • I have a HP version of the CQ60 and I cant remove the casing screws. I can loosen them but they don't come out all the way, there's just a clicking sound after every rotation. What can I do? Would some oil help?

  • THANK YOU. gonna try and clean the fan in my compaq cq60..keeps over heating and shutting down. fingers crossed

  • THANK YOU.

  • @PrivateHairy Fuck. You.

  • So for the ram, are both parts in there or no? because I need to upgrade my ram and I don't know where they both are.

  • is it ok if i upgrade the ram in it to a 4 gb ram can i do that ?

  • @caolan10001 Yes you can. That's prob a good idea.

  • Thank You So Much

  • I took apart my laptop today and after putting it back together, the screen does not come on at all when I power it up. What could be the issue? Please get back to me asap

  • Comment removed

  • @DavinDaGeek If you just take all the screws out of the back of the cpu would that allow you to see the back of the fan. I don't want to take apart the whole thing just to take out the fan. I don't mind cleaning it with it still inside the computer.

  • does this work on a compaq presario cq61?

  • Hey Man I Git The Same Laptop Is Yours And My Cats Knocked My Laptop In The Floor So On The Right Side Of The Corner Is Cracked And I Want To Take The Montier Out And The Screen It Self So Witch Part Of The Video I Watch Or What Do I Need To Do Because I Want To See If I Can Fix The Right Side Of The Corner Of My Laptop Where It Is Showing White To Back To Where It Is Supose To Be Can Ya Help Me

  • @jaykingis14 Sorry, but was their really any need to use a capital for every word in that paragraph xD

  • hi mate, thx 4 vid in first!

a question, do you know if this works on CQ70-120eg too? i have heavy probs with overheat and absolutley no idea how to open and clean up :(

    thx alot

  • Great video, thanks, a real lifesaver :)

  • I have that laptop!

  • Mak Nyusss tenan Gan.....!!

  • My Compaq presario Cq60 - 300 ED makes rare noises like Zrinnggggggg

    It's on the left side

Do you know what te problem is ?

  • OMG DUDE YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!!!!!

i sent my laptop to cleaning once and it cost me $40...

  • a realy stupid question, but do u think i could do this with a knife :P and btw i swear last night a spider came out of my laptop (havent cleaned it for 4 years)

  • Do you have to take out the CD-room? in that case my stuck, i cant get it out.

  • Precious videos (specially part 3 and 4!..), thank you...

But, still, I don't want believe I have to spend a couple of hours, takin' apart the WHOLE laptop, riskin' to break anything (peripherics, wires, chips..) just to make the most obvious maintenance: clean the fan...find it reeaaally nasty..

Should exist an easier way out let me know...peace

  • i have the same laptop and my "qwerui" keys dont work can u please help me solve this problem

  • i hgotta get to my motherboard cause somethings wrong with my usb's and shit but to get to the motherboard i need to unplug everything thats fucking nuts lol

  • CAN I REMOVE THE FAN WITHOUT REMOVING EVERYTHING????

  • @ersidv yes, remember this is video 1 of 4, there are 3 more videos on taking this thing apart.

  • @DavinDaGeek Hey If i take apart the cq60, would it be possible to replace the hdd and put in a ssd?

  • @NazzyNaslundFan yes you can.

  • @DavinDaGeek can you recommend a ssd that will work? Is there any compatibility issues that I should be aware of?

  • Can you show how to replace BACKLIGTH please. I can not find it or where it is located. Thank you.

  • could you be any more hamfisted?! i could only bring myself to watch the first video so for the love of god please tell me you didnt use a magnetic screwdriver on the motherboard!!!

  • very good video

  • Now can i take that hardrive out and use it on another computer as an external hardrive?

  • @maiko205 yeah you can do that. You're gonna need a bay of some sort to house the harddrive though.

  • Well i guess im gonna go find another vieoe tht shows me how to take out the screws. :/

  • @maiko205 and oh yeah, you do know you're watching video 1 of 4, there are four videos to taking this laptop apart, I take out the screws and take off the screen and all that good stuff.

  • @DavinDaGeek lmao btw i was being sarcastic lol

  • you have to take the keyboard out first, then the other part

  • hey really need your help, i replaced my cpu but i didnt try any tutorial cause i though it will be aesy but after 3 hours i finally got to cpu but then after i put it back together the monitor doesnt work it doesnt light up at all, please tell that it didnt broke. really appreciate yourhelp

  • Are you Jamaican?

  • Thanks Davin, this is particularly helpful since HP/Compaq doesn't provide a disassembly manual and you need to take out those screws under the battery to take the bezel off. I found the keyboard a bit of a pita, it's so easy to pull the plastic bits off. I'm only replacing the backlight on one, but I had to open it up because there was a screw floating about inside... Great video(s) - thank you!

  • how do u take out screws can u make and tutorial for that lol XD

  • @2468ronald *facepalm*

  • i would not recommend pushing on the hard drive like he did you grab that black strip and pull that way you can damage your hard drive and make sure you have a anti static strip if not you are taking your own risk

  • Hi, thanks for the video tutorial, but I don't want to take the computer fully apart. Is it possible to get to the fan without removing the monitor, wireless card and how does one ground one self?

  • @roosterbasher No, it is not possible. You have to remove all parts!!

  • do any of your videos explain how to replace a hinge or at least how to pop it back into place ? i currently can't close my laptop because the left hinge came lose

  • @MonkySPIRITHCLAN Then you don't get to see all the steps there are in opening this laptop. and more unnecessary questions will ensue.

  • My spacebar came out can you help me ?

  • Thank you!! Your tutorial was very helpful : )

  • Omg.... Your tutorials saved our laptop!!! I followed your instructions... Took it all apart and there was a huge lump of dust in the fan, hence the whirring noise and cutting the laptop off.... • alright anybody know what size fan is used in this laptop and whether it can be replaced by a standard same size box fan?

  • OMG thanks! I did have a little problem where Broke a connector but thankfully I worked at a circuit board factory for 2 summers to get by. My fan is running much better without all the dust.

  • cool thanx for the great tut, I've got a compaq Cq40!! lucky they're almost the same computer!

  • I tool my compaq apart but am having a hard time getting it back together. Is there a trick to putting the keyboard and surrounding piece back in??

  • I took my compaq apart and am having a hard time getting it back together. Is there a trick to getting the keyboard and surrounding piece back in??

  • ive got the same laptop thanks for the video

  • the u.fl connector on the wireless card is VERY sensitive, and this is really not a good way to disconect it.

  • Thank you VERY much for making this video! Glad that you explained your steps and problems you encountered along the way.

I found the video to be a big help for doing my own copper modification, which required completely disassembling my CQ50 to get to the heat sinks.

Suggestion for others following DavinDaGeek's steps:

Keep a stack of envelopes handy to store screws from each major step. Label the envelopes w/# of screws & add your own notes. Place them in order of disassembly.

  • you spelled "apart" wrong in the videos title.

  • @dieanotherdaybond Thanks, I didn't notice it was said "aprat" Instead of "apart" lol you have a good eye :)

  • i found a nail in my laptop...lolllll

  • Thank you so much. I've been inspired by this video. I had a laptop compaq presario r3000. Had it for 4 years untill it died on me. I took it all apart, inserted a new motherboard, reassembled back together and brought it back to life. Fixed it all by myself without a need for taking it to a shop which would have cost me more money. Hey dude, thanks for sharing this video.

  • subtitles in spanish please

  • @loqu100 Sorry I do not know Spanish, and I'm faaaaar too lazy to write down everything I said and then put them in a translator.

  • @DavinDaGeek ok tank you for the video

  • @loqu100 dumbass

  • @MetallicA478 you dumbas fuck you

  • @loqu100 ahah your mad

  • @loqu100 Learn English please

  • @MrBugatt1 Great, I'm happy I was of some help.

  • Thanks

  • @lezbox No problem. =)

  • Thanks devon so much! This helped me out alot! If you could please show us how to make a hackintosh aka make a pc into a mac.Because there are not alot of good videos that are step by step on how to do it. I would be super happy. Thanks !

p.s. im writing on the same computer and its fixed lol i just repluged a wire back

  • @Earthsparkey Awesome, thanks for the very kind comment, I'm glad I was able to help you out :D and I have about four videos on how to take the laptop apart, check my play list. I don't do too many videos fiddling around with my laptop because it's my only main computer right now, and I don't have the time to mess with it too much, and I don't want to mess something up with it.

  • Hi i just reassembled my compaq and i turned it on and the screen is black but there is a charge on the charge button by the ac adapter but non of the lights on the left hand side that says charging and stuff by the button are on.WHAT DID I DO WRONG? I CONECTED EVERYTHING RIGHT.HELP!!

  • @Earthsparkey You might have left something unplugged, I suggest you take it apart and look at it once more, I have many parts to this video, this is just part one. I have about four or five videos on taking the laptop apart, go check them out, it may help you.

  • hey i have this same laptop and i have a question have you experinced and problems with your screen going black? if so how did you fix it? thanks.

  • @lezbox No, so far I have not had that issue with my laptop. But there can be a number of problems that can cause this. Like your graphic drivers or your plugs and ports that give the screen continuity with the motherboard, you know things like that. I'm not too sure what can be the main issue without being there my self, but you'll have to do some research on that problem.

  • Hi

I have to replace my keyboard.

What screws do i have to take out?

And do i have to take out all the other thibgs you took out?

    Thnx
