I was in the Carpenters Union in Redbank New Jersey and I really liked the idea of the brotherhood but as it turned out they just didn't have the work for me and i ended up laid off for months at a time. Then they call me and ask that I do picket duty, well ok, yea that's alright....Oh wait, I'll be picketing for the electricians union....WTF. I now own my own small construction business and find my own work. I would have loved doing the union of brothers thing but ah, oh well.

Quit waiting for people to do stuff for you. Go out and make stuff happen for yourself.
How about more emphasis on the trade and less on the union organizing, racketeering and wage hustling.
Unions are long past their usefulness.
