  • That just put Govan in my top tier with Yngvie and Greg Howe. P.S. And for all you Malmsteen haters out there, I don't care! :)

  • Anyone know where I can get this Jam Track?

    Thanks

  • I always have resisted learning guitar theory as I prefer to approach guitar playing as an emotional experience, but this kind of playing is not attainable without a sound knowledge of music theory. Guthrie is a gifted musician with supreme sense of melody and a technique second to none. He makes me love and loathe playing guitar at the same time, knowing what can be done with a guitar, and also knowing that I will never be able to accomplish that.

    Thanks Mr. Govan!!!

  • I remember reading a rave review of Guthrie's demo in a guitar mag years ago. My playing is still as shit as ever but he's just taken it to an incredible level.

  • !!!

  • my talent-sucking machine is almost ready NYAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

yes well I can dream too. you jerk.

  • Who cares about scales anyway. Just play.

  • I'l never play over this backing track again.

  • That was a very sweet solo over a tune I know well.

  • Haha this young guy? Damn you should investigate more before posting a video, this is GOD Guthrie Govan

  • @guitarfusionjazz I did not understand that. Rephrase.

  • @guitarfusionjazz - You're giving advice on the guitar to a man regarded by his fellow pro's as the greatest living guitar player? Go kill yourself you stupid cunt.

  • @guitarfusionjazz HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • @guitarfusionjazz Do you know what fusion jazz is? it involves purposefully wrong note choice, and odd/bizarre rhythms.

  • @MoneyPieBoy Near, for me it's more a way of thinking. You don't need to choose the "wrong" notes always to be fusion, but you should know which of them have which sound, tension-relax and all that

  • @112358miau Thats what I meant by "involves". In a way, jazz, blues, and rock all have tension-release, but to me jazz and fusion have the most noticeable/extreme tension-release. For example I've seen Larry Carlton use a pentatonic scale for a song and for tension, he played the same scale a fret lower. Of course this is all MY opinion and everyone has their own, but thats my take on it.

  • @guitarfusionjazz you sir are not the brightest bulb in the box are you?

  • @guitarfusionjazz Hey man, just to let you in on a bit of theory, if this backing is in D minor, d minor is not the only scale you can play, you say guthrie is playing in Eb? then that would mean he is capturing a phrygian b5 sound, but he is not consistently in the same tonal centre, he is shifting the music and creating movement in what he is playing, constantly creating and releiveing tension. Dont be so quick to judge, or you might get owned... again! all the best

  • Hole. E. She. It.

  • way to many notes and licks on a way to short time to be robben ford, but some of it is quite fordish

  • @0jimihendrix0 its not really supposed to be, its a guthrie improv over a robben ford style backing track.

  • Guthrie Govan rules!!!
