Carl Cox has this in his F.A.C.T. 2 album, but it's not DJ friendly, at least the album I had. He started the session with it. Fan-Fuking-Tastic! That was the best version I heard.
This is one dirty guitar sampling classic....a 1.30am dance classic down at a club where you can get the sir guitar out and make a bigger prat of yourself than you have for the whole of the night :D
This version is SO damn hard to find! And its the best version IMO. I had this on a dance album about 15 years ago and lost it :-( Seeing Replacement Killers, and hearing it on the trailer for Layer Cake made me come looking for it again! I cant believe they left this off the Replacement Killers soundtrack.
Nah, the City of Industry soundtrack costs 99p on Amazon UK ( amazon . co . uk / gp/offer-listing/B000001EAG/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&qid=1309686948&sr=8-1&condition=used) - you should get yourself a copy. :)
Couldn't agree more PhoenixSuns, it's a pity they felt the need to embelish. Very often the very best pieces of music are destroyed by the ego misreading the musical discovery.
Ever since I saw The Replacement Killers, this song has been one of my absolute favourites. It's so classy, moody, menacing and faintly Glammy, all at once!
yes!live lots before you diei love this dirty guitar and feel...album best played loud it has to be said so you can hear the underneath tones and get the full force of the bass
Haha, fantastic! Thanks to that piece of the puzzle, I think I've got it figured out now - and also who "Rocco is!"
In the 1948 Bogart/Bacall movie "Key Largo", one of the main characters is gangster boss Johnny Rocco, played by Edward G. Robinson, who forces his alcoholic dame Gaye (played by Claire Trevor), to sing Moanin' Low acapella. Have a look here: tinyurl . com / ykfastg and watch the actual scene(!) and listen to Claire Trevor sing! :) Thanks, Base58!
@KjellBrel ah cool I actually found that extract from Key Largo on Spotify on a classic film noir compilation but it's edited so it didn't quite sound right. That full clip sounds like the exact source tho. Thanks!
Sampling by itself doesn't imple "influence"...I assume you're a Floyd fan, so you use them to judge new music. I'm a Joy Division fan, and to me, Death in Vegas sounds like them. Did JD influence Death in Vegas? I have no idea. The end guitar on "Empty Spaces" is almost identical to JD's "Exercise One" - which was cut two years before The Wall came out. DId JD influence Floyd here? I doubt it - they were both just working with diminished chords.
this is a really great video, ive never actually seen sunset strip so that made it interesting for me too. beautifully filmed, i like the pace. and the music is awesome of course
the bass part sounds a lot like the bass sound AND riff on pink floy'd "one of these days" song (instrumental piece is more like it since the only vocal part in it is "one of these days i'm gonna cut you to little pieces"). and both the rhythm guitar and lead guitars sounds like the one from pink floyd's "we don't need no education" song. go to timeline 3:30
@harryupscrabble Well, having listened to "One of these days" I still can't hear any resemblence aside from both having a delay and being in a minor key. Though, it is a nice song. As to the guitar after 3:30 - you're talking about a muted rythm guitar with a wah pedal and a feed back - so, yeah, it probably sounds like a couple of Pink Floyd songs, and Stone Roses, Parliament Funkadaelic , and about a million others...
@Speakingmute yeah but guess what? i have googled death in vegas and it seems they have sampled a few of pink floyd's music. this implies that whoever is the mastermind of death in vegas is he might have been heavily influenced by pink floyd. i trust my ear. i hear pink floyd in this song. not note for note but it's there. when i said that there was disco in led zeppelin's "dazed and confused" live version song people told me "eff you harry, no way is led zep disco. but google says zep has funk.
ah those were the days i was in high school on summer vacation at my cousins apt playing tekken smoking hash at the time a slave to alternative music but this one song made the worm turn thanks rocco.
I had this version on 12" , i always played it at parties then some tosser went and scratched it , 12 years later im still annoyed.
i bought it after hearing the late john peel plug it on the radio , it was released just after they had to change their name from "dead elvis" to "Death in vegas" for legal reasons , the 12" is rare all other versions of rocco are crap compared to this version.
this ia awesome. :)) gimme a gud car nd let me stik this song on full blast lol i'd be most wanted in my city. does anyone know where i can download this song from?
My personal favo(u)rites: From "Dead Elvis" (first Album): Dirt I Spy Rekkit From "The Contino Sessions" (second album): Dirge Aisha From "Satan's Circus" (fourth album): Ein Fur die Damen Satan's Circus is sold in a 2-disc version where the second track is a live concert from Brixton -- very good!
KjellBrel, my friend Loren has been looking for this song literally for the past several years. Would it be possible for you to send it too him if I give you his e-mail address?
