  • I should actually watch this movie.

  • Steve sucks at sucking

  • It's a MOVIE....idiots

  • Great guitarist...shitty actor lol...Vai turned his head before Ralph Macchio started playing his fake ass notes

  • @ramindsr No he didn't. He turned right as he heard the first two notes.

  • Amazing acting skills by Vai, because obviously Vai is impersonating a guitarist that can fail notes.

  • one does not simply finger-stile Eugene's Trick Bag

  • Lol its so obvious that the one Guy is faking playing he's in the wrong area.

Steve vai's part was recorded and composed by him. And the karate kids part was composed by Steve vai and William kanengiser and recorded by Steve vai

  • i like how the first person and the second person played the same thing, but the first played it better..... that's totally not how a guitar duel works :P

  • I always get depressed for some reason after 1:19

  • jokes on you steve vai! I had an extra fret!

  • Do any guitar players here know what grade this piece may be at?

It's just that I've been playing this for a while now, and i have no idea what grade it's at.

  • awesum. ralph played most of it but they put in steve vai on da really hard part (obviously) but i reckon they did good when he had to learn guitar and this piece from scratch. i been playin for a while and i cant learn it lol...i need steve i think...plz im a fast learner

  • @skorpioh1 Ralph didn't play a single note in this movie. Vai played both parts in the final battle. Ry Cooder played the slide guitar parts in the film.

  • DRAWING GETS YOU THUMBS UP?

    ლ(ಠ益ಠლ

    ...me doin yer mom

    yes

  • i wonder how fast he could play if he actually had a pick...:P

  • Well at least i won't die without think that Steve can miss ONETIME. When he WANTS ! :O

  • 1:21 steve vai: you gotta be fucking kidding me

  • Not even Steve Vai can defeat the karate kid.

  • @davidpfol but Karate Kid can't defeat Chuck Norris: he can play Paganini on tripleneck guitar using only one ball as pick and his pubes to hold the guitar

  • go karate kid! (yes i do know that steve recorded karates kid guitar)

  • I agree Steve Vai was better in this duel, but he doesn't have the soul!

  • Jajaja willie brown trying to dance it XD

  • is it me or did they speed up Ralph Macchio at 0:20?

  • @thedoors919 just you....because ralph wasnt playing it, steve vai recorded it

  • @oldGnRrocks1 look at his head and his left hand

  • @thedoors919 i still think that they didnt speed it up

  • Stevie is absolutley horrible at pretending to be bad!!!!haha

  • just to know....the kid isnt really playing...the hands that are playing are someones else...(dont remember the name)

  • @HRHAF the hands... are his hands. check wiki.

  • dont worry steve when I hit high notes I fall over too.

  • Interesting Fact: Steve Vai was so good that he actually had to practice making those mistakes that he did

  • Dude, Vai is an awesome guitarist. He got his start with frank Zappa. Zappa was impressed enough to put him in his band. Enough said

  • @billydalesturrock you know that he played eugene's part right?

  • Don't be the guitarist saying every good guitarist is overrated. It makes you sound like a tool.

  • in the movie .........**eugene finishes plaing the song** steve vai's face: i cant do that ....thinking: im so fucked

  • Playing guitar is serious fucking business

  • @RCCola339

    Um, screw you

  • Steve Vai did write all those parts, even the"misses" lol...

  • Um, guys, Vai's really not that great in real life.

  • @RCCola339 you really think he's not that great? He is a musical geniues. You may not like listening to his music, but he knows so much about theory and is extremely talented.

  • @Biake22 But he's not "extremely talented". He's about as talented as every other guitarist with some fame.

  • @RCCola339 I see... Let me guess. You're a Berklee graduate and you are just as good as he, so you're a bit sour towards him. You practice hours every day and have the knowledge and dedication to write music for an entire orchestra. If that's the case, I can understand why you said that, but he is definitely a hard worker and deserves his fame.

  • @Biake22 I'm not as good as him, I'm 14. But he's pretty overrated. Now Paul Gilbert is awesome.

  • @RCCola339

Paul Gilbert indeed awesome. However, dont' say vai is overated until to you've been playing long enough to have an informed opinion, and at 14, you aren't. I'm not all that keen on vai's music, but as a musician / guitarist, he's about as good as it gets. Gilberts technique is awesome and I prefer his music over vais, but from an all round musical perspective, Vai is the man. .

  • @RCCola339 Your a tool, Steve Vai is not overrated, He spent several years just in a room only practicing, Steve Vai is an absolutely phenomenal guitarist and musician. As are many other guitar players, You don't want to be the player that every thinks that they think they are better then everyone else, because thats what it sounds like when you call a musician who has achieved so much, overrated.

  • @MetalHeadApocalypse1 .....I have no idea what the fuck you just said XD

  • @RCCola339

    >Im 14

    >Stopped reading

  • @MyDadBoughtMyPRS Lol'd XD

    I do have a music-y background, though.

  • @RCCola339 I see.

  • @RCCola339 LOL? He's the one who wrote that. Vai makes that look incredibly easy, he's not the best, but god damn is he good.

  • I can't miss like vai, he's just amazing xD

  • The robot dance at 0:55 is just fucking epic XD !

  • I just realised there aren't even enough frets on a Tele to play the last bit of this song. That's before it gets to the stupidly high harmonised guitar bit as well :/

  • Is this piece from a song?

  • @ThisIsUrName is from paganini's 5th caprice

  • wtf is that a movie or im confused ? who is this kid

  • @Georg5555 Are you serious? That's the Karate Kid! (Ralph Macchio) The movie is called Crossroads. If it makes you feel better, Vai actually plays Ralph's part... it's a movie. Vai woulda wasted him! Haha!

  • @CDP110 hahaha xD yes i know lol x) did a little research , just got confused cause a guy suggested me to watch this kid playing so y .. nvm :)

  • vai kicked his ass... he caught that BY EAR

  • solo queda decir que ni el mismo diablo puede acabar con la musica celestial jejejejejej no somos inmortales, pero existimos algunos àngeles en la tierra, tragate esta, jejejejejej

  • Its not Via's fault that he doesn't have enouh frets on his guitar to get up to that high note!!

  • @Clashma Note that Eugene has 22 frets, the average number of frets. Vai, being a metal guitarist, likely has 24, more than Eugens 22. Don't blame it on the guitar lol it was scripted as in acted out.

  • @paladintrex well, eugene is playing a telecaster, wich actually have less frets than vai's(i believe telecaster's have 20) But hey, its a movie, in a movie a lady who have been screaming for two or more hours at certain point doesnt seem to have any problem using or aiming a shotgun to beat the shit out of hundreds of zombies:/

  • @paladintrex Actually, Euegene's has 24 frets, but in fact, you're right, Vai has 24, but, you can reach that sound by doing a full bending on fret 22, but it is also dificcult, so you and clashma have the half ot the reason xD

  • @TheMetalBuddy Actually, you can't hit that note on the 24th fret. You hit it by fretting the string onto the neck pickup pole, IF you have a pickup with the poles sticking out. Apparently it would be considered the 29th fret or something according to this tab that I have.

  • I know why Vai messed up... it was actually Christian Bale the entire time.

  • And the winner of the first annual air guitar championships is....that annoying "kid" who whacks off!

  • vai wrote the part that "karate kid" "played"

  • @SlAsHnAsTe Wrong Niccolò Paganini wrote that piece ;)

    It's called "Caprice No.5"

  • @renehenckens i know that, i'm not stupid haha i'm just sayin i hate how everybody talks about how amazing it was that vai got beat, its a movie, grow up

  • @SlAsHnAsTe fair enough ;)

It's just that a lot of people will believe you ;)

And I'm a little OCD like that :P

  • @renehenckens haha that's understandable, no hard feelings haha

  • @renehenckens Wrong. It's basically a jacked up distant variation of it, if that. Look up Jason Becker Paganini 5th Caprice to hear the original.

  • ..BULLSHIT. Trying doing that fingerpicking X.X

  • is that daniel son?

  • @tamircool Yes, it's karate kid

  • @tamircool yes lol

  • if Eric Johnson will apeared in that movie it will be another story

  • i swear to god if paper jams puts this on there shitty toy i will KILL the makers and if they do and i see a kid playing it i will say "yea wanna be good? GET A REAL GUITAR!!!!"

  • It would've been cool to hear Eugene's Trick Bag, the whole thing, on that Jackson or whatever Vai is playing in this clip.

  • Brill! Hey.guys check.out.my.channel ttocsqwetrty

  • steve vai sucks at suckingXD

  • @burningsponge is this based on your own experience xD?

  • @Ozznize no NO thats not what i meant, i meant that he try's to fake he can't play the song, but he's terrible at faking that he's bad at it!

  • @burningsponge lol, how can he fake it if he's the one who actually recorded it!!!

  • And that is when steve vai decided that he was going to take up the guitar as a hobby.

  • it is also vai whos playing at the boys part... its recorded....

  • @chancewasted Yeah.

Ralph did a great job fakeplaying though. It's hard to tell he isn't playing.

  • @scrapcock if you look closely its vai the whole time... very rarely do you see the kids face :D

You can tell by Vai's vainy Arm :D

  • Mr. Han taught Karate kid well! :)

  • Lmfao at 0:08 !! He is disgusted ahaha x)

  • Steve Vai is so good he even has trouble pretending he misses. It's like a sudden hand paralysis, haha.

  • @tiagoinka Guthrie smokes him

  • haha thats the least logical way to play that piece... up and down the neck that far...looks better for the movie though

  • stay gold ponyboy hahhaah he can friken shred.

  • That ending is so dumb it's hilarious.

  • @superagnitio hey...dont be dissin this was a good movie

  • @longvehical I'm not dissing, I'm just pointing out a fact.

  • hahahah steve vai is a terrible actor he can´t pretend that he can´t play like the great guitarrist on the world

  • @andrefilipedk2 , you instead are a great actor. I remember you, you appeared in the Oscar-nominated movie called 'I am so full of shit, that I sleep on my poo'.

  • @luigiperso lol your funny :D

  • DANIEL SAN PUT DOWN THE GUITAR AND GO PAINT THE FENCE

  • SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH HIS PLAYING!!!

  • @TheCRGuitarGuy ,I am no big Steve Vai fan but in this movie he really kicked ass. How many film soundtracks you have performed on? You are so full of shit.....just sit down

  • @luigiperso Not Steve's, the kids. There is so many things wrong with how his hands are moving with the track hes playing with. I love Steve Vai, and i feel he does little, to nothing, wrong.

  • @TheCRGuitarGuy

His hands are actually pretty damn close. It looks like he's playing the beginning in open position, and the rest is just as it should be. The only thing that is noticeably off is his right hand technique. Otherwise they did a terrific job with it, the whole "hand approximation" thing

  • @Unknownbmxr For someone not playing guitar to move his hands like this is a great achievement, I agree.

  • i noticed that today aswell

  • HAHAHA the kid in the film would not be able to play this because his guitar has only 21 frets and the tabs go up to the 24th fret xD fail :D

  • @whitemetalheads Plus, its a tele.

  • that girl at the end really annoys me >:O

  • @DeanOMiite you know vai played both parts right?

  • Wow I didn't know Steve was that good. All his stuff I have heard is kinda weird, and not my style but that is sick. Paganini's caprices are insanely diffuclt on guitar as it is, and he took parts of it and changed it up. That's pretty awesome

  • Could somebody please vote for another comment besides mine??? My inbox is inundated with people saying, "Well, you k now Vai played both parts, right?" YES, I KNOW! PLEASE STOP TELLING ME! lol

  • Steve vai failed at failing

  • omg... i am learning to play this... it is friggin HARD!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am so glad that Vai did not challange Ralf to a carate duel... this kid has others skills to show him, im just saying!

  • I bet it was harder for Steve Vai to mess up on purpose than it was for him to actually do it....

  • themetalriffguy is best

    watch?v=Xq0SpR2HSvI

  • Wow. Look at that guitar pantomiming! I mean, it really looked like Steve Vai plays guitar!

  • so many black people..... It's like the KFC....

  • i saw this movie when i was a child and i never forgot this scene

  • este wey es tan bueno que no sabe equivocarse

  • Funny how the highest note of the last chord is an A, though his fretboard only extends till an C#

  • @AC6DC he must have bent it like a bitch heh heh

  • @AC6DC haha only a true guitarist would have noticed that!! haha if you look closely, half the notes he plays are wrong, but it sure as hell looked good.

  • I've won against Steve Vai with the awesomest piece ever!

Now let's play some shit -_-

  • @casperado666

What they played was certainly not shit!

  • @Clike666ness imo if you play anything after a paganini-inspired piece, it'd sound kinda weak. but watever dude

  • Luckily, they didn´t put Yngwie Malmsteen, because he would have won.

  • the hardest part for steve to play WAS the fuck ups XD

  • They calls me Eugene Soloman 5000...

  • FUCK YOU STEVE THIS IS Niccolo Panganini Caprice 5

  • @JasonBogdumb Sure. I'm a tranny... just like Steve Vai. Gotta go eat my oestrogen tabs now... just like Vai... the big ops 2mo, just like.... blah, blah, blah

  • @Anechoica vai doesnt take oestrogen tabs.

    HE TAKES VAI-AGRA!!!

  • @sunnyjim98 awesome LOL

  • The End?

  • Is this song made by Steve Vai?

  • @havjac95 yeah, amazing

  • Watch with the 1911 effect turned on. Turns into a Laurel and hardy style comedy. The music kinda matches the guitar playing movements aswel XD

  • /watch?v=Fwe6mu_1Hi0&feature=feedu

CHECK OUT HOW THIS GUY PLAYS THAT (not promoting myself!!)AND HIS OTHER VIDS TOO!!!

  • Steve Vai and Ralph Macchio...two of the greatest guitar players together on one stage.

  • @jewelfewel: last note is a violin

  • KIENES SON LOS 21 PENDEJOS K LE PONEN UNLIKE!! sus jefas en tanga!!

  • Its kind of funny since Steve vai is the one that recorded that song for this part of the movie! It was made by him.

  • I refuse to believe that someone could play anything similiar to Paganini's 5th Caprice on an electric guitar with their fucking fingers. That is a load of shit right there.

  • vai dropped that jackson in the end because he knew ibanez was making him something even better

  • Paganini FTW !!!

  • Fake!! everyone knows a fender tele has less frets than whatever Steve's playing ;-)

  • @hansdegitaar he just bent the string that far bro

  • were supposed to believe hes fingerpicking that

  • How does he do that almost fiddle sounding bend at the end? Sounds awesome!

  • @NickoTheGuitarist

There's a 2nd guitar overdub and it does a harmony.

  • Awesome movie - there should be a part 2 with Buckethead or John 5 being the devils guitar player - could be cool :)

  • crazy laughing black guy at the beginning makes me lose all seriousness in learning this song at 13 yrs old.

  • the boy is using tricks esteve play the guitar taht wins

  • Dyson, from terminator 2, is in the background.

  • you all have to give the karate kid some props for atleast giving a half way decent fake for someone who probably knows nothing about guitars

  • it would been nice if steve kicked ralphs butt jaming , then ralph wouldnt do nothing

    haha

  • I wonder what it would actually sound like if they plugged the kid's guitar in...

  • @murdoc111 you mean that wasn't actually him playing? XD

I wonder how many people (not guitar players) watched this movie and said "Wow, that kid can play!!" haha

  • i love how the last note of eugene's trick bag is harmonized with what sounds like a synthesizer and another guitar lol

  • @jewelfewel I'm pretty sure the note is at like the 36th fret or something... I don't even know what that sounds like, maybe that's what it actually sounds like

  • @HJubb 29th

  • @HJubb I have the tab that was written out by steve vai way back in the early 90's and it sais to play the 29th fret (high a played by fretting against neck pickup)

  • @jewelfewel yeah but i think he just used his pickup as another fret

  • @jewelfewel I've always thought the same thing...

  • @jewelfewel it's actually like 4 guitars and a synth :P

  • @jewelfewel lol. My friend and I have been joking about that for years.

  • @jewelfewel it was an pretty expensive eventide harmonizer i think

  • vai owned.

  • @blakielawless666 by Vai.

  • this needs heavy distortion

  • You Can Totally Feel That Vai Failed On Purpose

  • I thought of two things while re-watching this. "Boy, you are the gotdamn Devil" from Chappelle's Show while Daniel-san was playing and "The King is down!" from 3000 Miles to Graceland when Jack Butler stumbles.
