yea, i'm not even the least bit of an audio phile, I can't tell the difference between different kinds of guitars or even out of tune guitars, but whenever i hear an analog synth i'm instantly just like HOLY SHIT

I can tell if it's really obviously out of tune of course & i can tune a guitr by ear but i'm talking about how sometimes you think you'll have it tuned by ear and then someone tells you it's slightly out of tune

I think that what most people hear when they say they can hear the difference between an analog and digital synth is simply the type of sound that is created. Analog synths because of their setup and controls lend themselves to the creation of certain types of sounds. Digital synths on the other hand have usually been pre-programmed with a set of nice sounds like strings, organ, etc. I'm sure a digital synth could produce a square wave and we would all be hard pressed to tell the difference.

if you're talking about presets, the makers of the synth are going to make presets that demonstrate the synths strong points - so there aren't going to be many presets where you can tell the difference. some synths will have an Awesome preset, but then you tweak the filter a little to make your own sound and it just gets crackley instead of deep and growley like an analog would. how much longer do i have until the deja vu is gone, and will i be glad when it is gone or sad?
