The "prophets of old" were NOT fallible. None of the apostles ever taught a false doctrine, if they did, how could we ever know the true teachings of Jesus Christ? It is one thing for church authorities to have personal failings, but if they teach false doctrine, then why listen to them at all? What authority could they have?

Joseph Smith allowed several Black men to hold the priesthood and exercise preaching authority during his lifetime. Emma Smith's aunt married a free Black man in New York. The "curse of Cain" doctrine cited by Brigham Young did NOT originate within Mormonism but rther within Protestantism in the decades before the Civil War. People don't realize how cruel attitudes towards Black people were back then. They ran a gauntlet of insults and snubs every day - and that was on a good day.
