  • i have a six year old who i boughtas a trained horse. she had the basics done, like walk trot lope back and side pass, but no colleection or anything, so i got to finish her my way. we have recently started colection and i am going ot a clinic on reighning im so excitedshe was 5 when i bought her trained as a four year old

  • i have a 25 year old saddlebred and he is learning the western basics and is gettiing good at it, i want him to spin and stop quick and do all that fun stuff but im worried about his back end. what should i do?

  • Imma teach my horse to spin :)

  • I have a horse who gets overly excited when my leg touches her. She's a barrel mare, and I still want her to be used for barrel racing but unfortunately its made her hot. Is there any particular way I can make her calmer for reining too? She's never done anything besides barrel racing before I got ahold of her.

  • @Weaponsmaster8595 Hi WeaponsMaster, I thought I'd better answer you or risk the consequences =o).

Realistically, you can do things that would definitely help your mare calm down but I doubt the results would be enough to allow you to do the "big fast circle, down to the small slow circle" well enough to win anything.

  • @ltrocha Alright. I don't intend on showing at anything big, my reining filly is just not always reliable due to her "Mare" days, so I considered using the barrel mare for reining on my Equestrian Team which isn't very competitive. She can turnaround and stop with her butt the ground and has the hip control for lead changes, but like you said the transitioning down will be a problem for her since she's trained that slow is bad. Thanks, I'll just keep working away at her and see what becomes. :)

  • My horse using a hackamore right now will it still be that simple? becuz he is as sensitive with a hackamore as much as my pony is with the bridle.

  • I am loving your videos! My horses all spin very correctly, soundly...and VERY slowly. I have a lot of experience starting colts and rehabilitating scared horses, but I have a hard time getting that finishing edge on them. I think these tips will really help me get some finished horses!

  • Thankyou so much for uploading these videos! They're incredibly helpful! :)

  • @xDudeItsBre Hi, I'm glad they are of some help to you. That's why they're here.

    Good luck with your training.

  • my horse jus spins with a tap on the neck....is tht necessarily bad? she is being used for barrel racing but i kinda want to get into the reining thing but i gotta finish barrel training first anyway. just wonderin

  • hi there mister Trocha, I've got a question about the type of bit you're using to teach horses how to spin, the thing is that I've been training my own quarter horse for reining based on your videos, and for some rare reason ( I think is because is the first horse I've ever trained) he keeps using the wrong pivot leg (the outside instead of inside). I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong bit (I have to confess that I've never used a snaffle bit on my horse).

  • @ciscospirit Try sitting more on your inside seat bone, sitting deeper and harder on that seat bone. That could help, you may just be giving him the wrong signals. ^^

  • these videos are great and easy to follow your instruction, thank you for lesson one clip sent to me not only the lesson but your service is great I can now understand and therefor its easier for my horse thank you reno907

  • I'm new to reining, but have been riding for years. I absolutely love your videos especially because its difficult to find reining trainers here in New Hampshire. After weeks of searching I finally found one trainer, Dan Sanborn and he gave me an unforgeable lesson, it was amazing. With your videos I'll now be able to start teaching my horses reining. Thanks for being so thorough and for explaining it in simple terms. Your awesome!

  • @splashskipper You are very welcome. Good luck with your reining.

  • I saw in your cutting training that you did 'rising trot' I thought you sat in trot when riding western, just wondered when you rise in trot.

  • @melissagillbard121 you post at the trot whenever it's too rough to sit.

    Larry T.

  • Do you need to use spilt reins when teaching a horse this or can you use a single rein? And how loose should the reins be?

  • Can you do this if your horse is in a hackamore?

  • i just bought a horse. he has been trained to cut. i find your videos to be very helpful. we are in the process in to getting to know each other, and learning to communicate to build that bond. he is a great horse. so thank you for your videos!

  • Great video larry very helpful I got my mare turning around the only question I have is my mare is turning around and kinda picking up her head like this horse was how do I get it to come down do I bump with the outside rein as I'm turning?

  • wow reeeally love this guys vids...i have a hard time understanding the logic behind some of the things trainers do...I actually get him tho

  • I have a gaited mare the loves doing this kind of stuff, but she is extremly high strung and has a hard time focussing. Any tips or excercises to get her to focuss and stop trying to play so much?

  • i wish i knew about this spinning horse thing when i use to have a horse lol woulda been fun

  • When in the spin is there any leg pressure on the horse? or just reins?

  • @mightyfraserriders your question is answered in part 3.

  • GREAT video. My horse already knows the spins, but its still great to freshen up a bit. One thing that I do have a question is how do you make them spin faster? I have tried acclorating pressure, adding more cluck, but nothing has seemed to work. Is there any video of yours that would help? Thank you and God Bless!

  • Totally worked her today with this method and she did beautifully!!

  • That's great to hear, Barbols.

I love it when a rider is willing to try new things and give it his best shot.

Good luck with your training endevors.

  • Thank you!! :) I know it takes about a year to train, but if a horse has been worked with and knows the basics for cutting, like pivots, and slide stops, etc, how long would it take for a trainer to work with a horse like that? I'd like to take lessons from someone that knows what they're doing so I don't screw her up when she comes back. Do you happen to know of any trainers around the Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas area?

  • So after watching this video I've realized that I've been asking my mare, to do pivots, the wrong way. How I've been askin her is pulling on the reins and laying them across her neck with leg pressure. That also confuses with side passes. Thank you so much for posting this!! She's my first cutting horse and I'm still new to teaching a horse advanced stuff. Pivoting/spinning was the one thing I was totally lost on.

  • I was very impressed and happy to see that this horse did not swith it's tail, and that even through you were training on him, you were not exactly drilling him and on his head constantly. I had just watch some "free training" videos on reigning where the horses were constantly switching their tails, the guy on their head constantly.

  • hey i break and train 2 year olds. do u have any advise or exercises i could use for teaching young horses to flex and bend in the rib cage in their first 60 days of riding

  • Yes I have the same question as rndmgrl85.

  • Yes.

Watch part 3 to see when.

  • when you spin are you using any leg pressure at all?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! You make it so clear.

  • You are welcome, zoel222.

    I'm glad you liked it.

    Larry T.

  • this video is the best,I understand everything!!!

  • Glad you liked it, Mashdoafro.

Now, go out and apply it to your horse while it's still fresh in your mind.

    Good luck,

    Larry T.

  • I watch this video over and over; it's just great, and I learn something every time. Keep it up, Larry. :)

  • Hi larry! I love your videos! This one especially! I need some help though, the horse im riding is more spinning on his front and not pivoting on his correct hind foot, what should I do?

  • Thank you for these! I am in the process of training my 6 yr old and 3 yr old, so this really helps! (i don't want to screw the up!)

  • Thanks for sharing Larry. Always helpful to work on these reminders!

  • Liked your tips that i get and even if i don't have a reining horse it always help to use your tips in other parts of training.

  • green? I wish my horse was that good

  • Hi Larry,

Thanks so much for posting all this information! This has always been one of my favorite DVD's. What do you suggest if your horse tends to walk forward out of the spin?

    Thanks!
