Toccata & Fugue in d minor - Bach. As stated previously, it was the theme tune I remembered. None of my peers recall this. Today I have been vindicated. It was real. Used to make my Sunday mornings. May have started my enthusiam for history. Thanks Rathardican.
Heheh nah, it's based on a french biblical saying which I don't remember but anyway it means And the earth started existing(or was created). And it's the name of the first episode so it's not related to the earth exploding.
with all due respect couldn't we get a better version of this up? This one has washed out colors, a slight lag on the video card of the comp being videotaped by an unsteady cam with a huge drop in volume around the middle.
Other than that good vid.
@ JAhU00 I noticed that when i was kid and how the people running for the rocket at the end never actually make it but are vaporized by the thrusters. Sad.
When i put it on here, it had taken me a few months to source as none of my peers even remembered the show...there was no other version of it online apart from a defunct site. I figured, I'll just film it off the screen and maybe someone will like it. Most have . I suggest that YOU get a better version of this up so I can pull this one. Good luck
well i ,for one am so happy you put this here..it was one of my favourite programmes as a kid and i have been unable to find it anywhere..now desperate to see the whole thing again!
@Rathardican The planet should survive us, no matter what. But the sun is eventually going to turn into a supernova. I'm pretty sure this is just imagery to point out that if we want to survive, we will have no choice but to leave Earth.
Ah yes, but the dire overyones of this intro seemed to convey the dire message indicated in the animation and as you will see from the comments, it is the intro music that many remember,
Esta caricatura de mi más tierna infancia es la culpable de mi fascinación por la historia universal. Gracias por este trabajo tan influyente en el logro de que los niños se interesen en lo que en otras circunstancias hubiera parecido aburrido.
I remember there being some nice classical song playing during the Egypt part of this series, probably while they're moving the Sphinx, but I'm not sure. Could someone name it for me?
At least, when you grew up in Europe in the 80s, you knew the theory of evolution is true. There was no crackpot denying. The cartoon's opening is crystal clear about the origins of Man.
Similar experience in Greece. Can't exactly pin it down, late 70s or even early 80s. Fish, ape, man, and the possibility of a world destruction. Highly educative; even back then I appreciated that the truth was not embellished beyond recognition. War and misery, death and pain were constantly present. Spectacular music too. Don't think I knew it was Bach when I was 5-6 years old.
WOW a blast from the past. I remember watching this every weekday morning in the school holidays, totally loved it. Wish they'd repeat it. Was it really in the late 70s? Oh may I'm feeling so ancient now. Thank you for posting a nice memory :)
watched the movie Rollerball & hearing "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" triggered my crazy search for this show. did not know the name. but somehow this classical piece brought back this memory. And now I can go to sleep...
same here dude. may you rest in peace. i now have kids and would love to show them this classic cartoon. they show so many repeats on tv , why not show some of this again ?
OMG,EXTREMELY HAPPY 2 see a show which i missed so much, never ever thought of finding it.Very Good program, watched it about more 2 decades back.REALLY delighted!BTW, are this below shows the ENTIRE package?
I have been talking a lot about this animation to my one work colleages, but no one could remember it. I used to watch it as a kid during the school holidays. Thought it very good then. The two guys - one slim, one big would just keep on regenerating. I think there was an old guy with a long white beard . I will buy this if available.
Man, I had a hard time trying to find this classic cartoon. Didn't know what the hell the title was. Mostly I remembered the furry guy, the main guy and a girl. Lucky I type in search using "history of time cartoon" and found it. Very darn educated cartoon for a kid back then and first nude for a cartoon.
Cheers mate! I never thought to watch again this superb intro. But I have to admit that I didnt remember its beging and ending, probably my child mind didnt registered these parts. I got scared because it seems where are going right there...
One of the most amazing cartoons I watched growing up in India!!! It would come on at 9.00 pm at night on Tuesdays and I would be so tired after evening play that I would beg my dad to wake me up if I fell asleep. What a treat it was when he did wake me up (only once in a while though). Thanks so much for posting this.
I can't believe some retarded catholic freaks got offended by an 80s cartoon and decided to debate creationism on youtube, you should really get slapped in the face and realize that a show, targeted for a children audience, was lightyears ahead of you.
Thanks for posting this - was a great childhood memory. I never read any heavy creation - evolution into it just thought it was entertaining. I'm so shallow ;)..
There is something genuinely disturbing about this intro sequence - you wouldnt get a kids tv prog these days showing the destruction of the earth in the opening credits. Like a few people commenting I had been trying to find out what this was called for years. :D

God, I learned so much from this series when I was a kid! I've seen it in Spanish, French and I think Greek too.
Thank you, France, for this gem of a cartoon.

I'm not sure if the music has originated from this series. It's too familiar. Is it a famous classical music piece or is it REALLY from this?
I mean, yes, this song plays in the beginning of every episode of this series, but has it originated from it?
Zhinarkos 2 years ago
The music is by Bach. It's classical music from the 18th century I think.

Literal translation of the end comment in French 'Et la terre...fut' would pretty much be 'And the Earth....was. (history/over/finished))

Your positive remarks effectively say-
1/ colours are crap
2/ sound quality is crap
3/ quality of filming is crap'
Apart from that, good vid (!)
