Eduardoslash, may i remind you that Joe Satriani was originally a JAZZ GUITARIST along with Steve Vai and Kirk Hammet plays JAZZ GUITAR. SLASH is into blues/jazz fusion. Besides rock music is nothing but the application of Classical, Jazz and Blues (i haven't heard Flamenco or Gypsy in rock yet so there). If you want to learn, start with one of those three. If you want to perform WELL, apply what you learned in your rock.

to play jazz you haf to have feeling and be sensitive, love jazz but i've only been playng for 1½ year and i started with blues, its easier and the bottom of jazz, rock and other stuff. But I want to learn jazz, do you have any good hints about where i should start. (it can be quite hard.)

Better get reading some theory books. Especially if you're planning on stepping into Fusion at some time haha. Learn to play with your fingers if you haven't already...Remember that it's all about feel and phrasing, and NOT amount of notes played in a given time frame. :)

This is excellent technically. But the problem I have with the playing, at least for me, is sort of the same problem that I have with Herb Ellis' and Barney Kessel's work: it is so precise and orderly that it falls into sterility. Contrast those players, for example, with Benny Malone, Grant Green or even Emily Remler. There is some grit in their playing even as elegant as it is. Joe Pass has some funk, too.
