  • lovely tone.. what amp are you using ?

goes to show you dont need a $3000.00 archtop to get

    a million dollar tone

    shally

  • I could definitely see this playing in the background of a softcore porn.

  • smooth i love it.

  • Great job! How do you get that tone? What equipment are you using? It sounds really cool!

  • So Smooth. Wonderful.

  • Happy New Year,Matt! Cheers!

  • absolutely love the tone. wish i could get that out of my les paul :P

  • you should be able to get pretty close...only that its not semi hollow so there ya go..Hopefully youre not just slappin tons of distortion with that les paul like everyone thinks thats all les pauls are good for

  • nah, not for jazz anyway

i play it clean with treble down a bit, middle down less, and base boosted a lil, using the "rhythm" pickup.

im new to jazz, but i think the sound is pretty good. love urs tho, great job!

  • This isn't jazz.

  • Jazz is a very broad genre. I think everyone associates the word jazz with different things. So don't... Just don't.

  • Broad as it may be, it's defined by certain rhythmic elements of which this piece has none.

  • your not jazz.

  • this is a wonderful piece...not overdone...smooth as silk..has a george benson kinda feel.....good job matt.

  • This stuff also helps tremendously with scales modes and chords.

So keep playin that funky music white boy.

  • While this may seem like an exersize in elevator music, it's absolutely vital to developing the skills needed in other forms of guitar even neo classical.

  • Nice playing and sound man. Music is for enjoying it, not for gimnastic or competition. metal can be nice as any other music, no music is better than other. This particular piece is very nice and the player plays good, it`s a pitty that some people put so much energy and text just to judge, do comparisons and criticise what others do. Just enjoy music, music heals the soul, guys!

  • one of the best Epiphone Joe pass tones I heard ever! and in the hand of a accomplished guitar player like you it become a more pleasure to listen.

  • Simply brilliant!

  • hey great playing, i have an epi joe pass myself only difference is my finishe, i have a few questions though, how did you get that tone, i probably have a crappy amp for hollow bodies but i was just curious

  • great tone

  • How'd you get that lovely tone if you don;t mind me asking?

  • I luv this..........

  • Yeah...and in movies that earn them Grammys, like Gato Barbieri who is a great sax player. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

  • And the Weather Channel!

  • Truly inspirational!

  • Awesome job Matt!! great performance, great sound..... what model Gibson are you playing? and are you using your front pick-up to get that rich buttery tone to your sound?

  • "Some dude with a real deep voice . . ." Yeah, that would be Barry White, "Come here, baby . . . ". Super smooth . . . .

  • hah thats got some nice sound to it, props to you man

  • Sounds superb.

  • thas awsome

  • Jazz= The only truth left in music.( Blues good too;) )

Anyways. Totally awsome. You are a great jazz musician. Very, Very good tone. What kind of drum/bass machine are you using? It sounds excellent. Well excellent job.

  • What amp are you playing through? I've got an epiphone Joe Pass and it doesn't sound that good!

  • Fingers, my friend. He's playing it straight into his PC

  • That was a well played piece. Your notes went well with the background music and it sounded very smooth.

It inspires me to want to play jazz guitar.

  • Great smooth playing as good as you usually are.

Man I've got an Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor II as yours and man can you make it sound so great!!!`

A proof the sound is much related to talent than the bucks one spend on o box...

  • very relaxing stuff, smooth and easy going with harmonical understanding, I like it, matt

  • Smooth as a baby's bottom m'boy. Can't stop listening to this...maybe i should go practice those nifty key changes, or perhaps get out more of an evening...

  • nice guitar!! and.. you're good

  • Very nice.

  • adorei! muito bom gosto!

  • muy sutil, no hace falta velocidad psra llegar a sacar un buen y lindo solo, felicitaciones!

  • just light that broccoli and relax...

  • Whew!...Sooo Smmoooth!, ....If a Snail Crawled over it,

the shell-dweller would surely not stumble, (LOL), nice work, Mr. Matt Otten, Thanks, and please do more of the same.

  • my wife says she likes the way I play better. Thats because she knows nothing about music! Maybe the sweetest phrasing on youtube. Gonna go listen to your others. Great job

  • im not a fan of jazz but its one of those skills i would love to pick up on

  • People underrated this magnificent genre of music. It's a shame that most teens these days revert to mindless, gut-driven rather than musical powerchord-esque cacophony.

  • Do you think this was a result of taking music education out of schools in the 80's. The 80's was also the birth period of hip-hop and rap - todays most popular style of, umpgh, music.

  • sounds boring after a while, you gotta keep it up man, let yourself go a bit more, it only sounds good because it's jazz, a fimiliar sound, but it's just more of the same ole. try to set yourself apart from the rest. Otherwise, good job, you're beginning to master jazz.

  • awsome

  • Great SOund. Anybody know how to get the track in the background to be really clear as in this video?? Help.

  • lol slash blues jazz fusion wtf? dont you mean exploring all 5 notes of the pentatonic scale haha joke sorry... if you like people dancing and enjoying themselves dont play jazz... if you like people intellectualising the music its very much for you

  • Nice and Smoov my brother! Taste like Norman Brown and Joe Pass rolled up together...Keep it flowing!

  • that was beautiful...

  • Great tone and touch man!

Eduardoslash, may i remind you that Joe Satriani was originally a JAZZ GUITARIST along with Steve Vai and Kirk Hammet plays JAZZ GUITAR. SLASH is into blues/jazz fusion. Besides rock music is nothing but the application of Classical, Jazz and Blues (i haven't heard Flamenco or Gypsy in rock yet so there). If you want to learn, start with one of those three. If you want to perform WELL, apply what you learned in your rock.

  • You are Jazz on legs, I wish i was as good as you. Thats one of the best Jazz leads i've heard. *bows Down*

  • I love this!!

Thanks, man. Love the flow of the tunes...

  • super, its very difficult to find this style, there's plenty of fans out here. The chord sequence is a little difficult and dosnt seen to sound quite the same although

Abmaj9/c and bmaj7 do have a smooth sound.Any chance of some thing a little easier or with explanations.

  • çok güzel

  • to play jazz you haf to have feeling and be sensitive, love jazz but i've only been playng for 1½ year and i started with blues, its easier and the bottom of jazz, rock and other stuff. But I want to learn jazz, do you have any good hints about where i should start. (it can be quite hard.)

  • Better get reading some theory books. Especially if you're planning on stepping into Fusion at some time haha. Learn to play with your fingers if you haven't already...Remember that it's all about feel and phrasing, and NOT amount of notes played in a given time frame. :)

  • Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. That's why they make knobs on radios, and different bins in the CD store. Eduardoslash, listen to John McLaughlin or Al Dimeola if you want to hear jazz will blinding speed that says something. I promise you that many of your guys are in awe of these two. MANY rock shredders and metal shredders are like speed typists that can type fast but can't make words let alone full intelligent sentences.

  • jazz is all about timing

  • Eduardo, you don't know a thing a bout music, y bet you even can't read music or know something about harmony, evolve man, that's so teen.

  • ok ! think whatever you want !!

  • You are an imbecile. Could the legends of the Missisipi Delta read music? NO. Did they change the course of music and inspire millions to play? Yes.

  • You're right about them, but how can you understand Shakespeare, Beethoven, Van Gogh or Davis and Monk but to analize their work you can't just trust your ears man 'cause that would be mediocre, you have to leave no doubt about what you're trying to comprehend.

    No hard feelings.

  • Muy bueno y con clase.

  • stfu eduarudoslash, I was like you 6 years ago and now Im trying to incorporate Jazz and metal.

Listen to some Cynic or some Is Nothing Sacred, now theres some jazz/metal for ya.

  • i already play metal and rock !! but i will never play Jazz ! it's too bored !! now i'm looking for a rock band !! for me guitar is not just fun, it's my life. I'm sure about this !!

  • man if playing guitar is your life .. you better be broad about music not just playing some old rock en roll heavy metal stuff.. did you know metal is just an influence of jazz.. back in the old days.. theres no so called genre.. people just play what they want.. like in the tribes.. the music they play is jazz.. there's no metal music in tribes.. bethoven writes music but he ddnt know that the music that he is playing is clasical.. cause there's no so called clasical in that days..

  • Apparently Cynic are getting back together. Can't wait!

  • Cynic is one of the absolute greatest musical acts to ever exist...so much wake stirred in one album, haha. As far as the eduardo cat, he's either playing a sick joke, or he's SEVERELY mentally impaired. I'm guessing the latter..

  • i have been playing guitar for almost 2 years ! i know it's not a lot ! i play good but not very good. anyway i'm talkin about real guitar players like walter giardino, slash or angelo batio !! i bet Matt can't play as fast as them ! I know, play fast is not all but i just gave an example !!

  • so if you want that guitar playing is your life better reaserch cause your dumb about music.. i bet you dnt where the name metal came from.. and whats the meaning of jazz.. your a c minus to me if i where your teacher

  • You are very naive, so naive, you probably won't ever get "it". Well maybe if you get serious about music, listen a lot more and mature.

  • Man, you give metalheads like me a bad name by showing how closed-minded you are.

Also, Slash is only good in pentatonics, and Batio is an awesome player but has no feeling.

  • about the feelin' i can say the same about matt otten

  • eduardoslash. Stop trying to teach your daddy how to fuck.

  • 2 years? youve only been playing for 2 years? and you talk like you know everything? you give rockers a bad name, no wonder you dont play jazz, you aint got shit

  • 2 years? youve only been playing for 2 years? and you talk like you know everything? you give rockers a bad name, no wonder you dont play jazz, its too complicated for you.

  • Matt just let me know that the chords are as follows:

    Cm9, Ebm9, Abmaj9/C, Bmaj7,Abm9, Bb11

  • jazz real music !!? i don't think so !! I play Rock & Roll and heavy metal !! That's real music

  • Don't worry, even guys like eduardoslash will grow up one day....

  • ok bro congratulations !!!

  • hey we you know we jazz player can play heavy metal and jazz cause its so easy for us.. but i dont know if you guys can play jazz music.. cause its so mature for you

  • sure we can!! rock & roll and heavy metal sound much better than Jazz !! I wanna see Matt Otten playing Walter Giardino, Michael Angelo Batio, Van Halen or Slash solos !!

  • ow i can see, do you play guitar? i bet not.. cause heavy metal lines in guitar are very consistent.. like playing heavy do re mi.. nah i bet van halen cannot do lines like lee ritenour.. but he can imitate it.. but i have much respect to van halen.. but nah?? he cannot do i bet you..

  • jazz is the father of rock so you can gzzle a bucket of come while i slap the shit out of you

  • you will never get something playing jazz !! playing rock n' roll or metal, you get everything !! money, drugs, sex !! Example : Guns n' Roses. Aerosmith, Judas Priest, AC/DC etc

  • exp my cock in your mouth

  • Rock is like you willienelson32. It don't know who its daddy is. It's a mix of Gospel, Jazz, Country, Dixie Land, and Rhythm and Blues the pappy who passed on the dominant gene to Rock.

  • everyone has their own taste of music and you can't argue about what an other person likes or thinks. Their ain't anything like the right music and the best, just thoughts about music styles.

  • eduardoslash.... my goodness.... if you had any idea the sheer knowledge and theory needed to play jazz you would change your tune very quickly. While "real music" is a pretty naive moniker, in my opinion, I feel that if you are really talking about the technical "music" aspect of the music jazz is above the rest, even classical in some respects. However, I can appreciate rock or metal, it is just that to call them, or any other type of music "real music" is stupid.

  • how about you learn to understand real music eduardoslash and leave mr otten alone.

  • i really hate jazz ! matt otten is an idiot

  • Ebm7 even

  • nah, Cm7 and Dbm7 for the main bits

  • OK, I guess it's just Ebma7 and Gbmaj7.

  • Excellent phrasing. I love listening to it and am working on the tune right now. Would love to know the chords.

  • This is excellent technically. But the problem I have with the playing, at least for me, is sort of the same problem that I have with Herb Ellis' and Barney Kessel's work: it is so precise and orderly that it falls into sterility. Contrast those players, for example, with Benny Malone, Grant Green or even Emily Remler. There is some grit in their playing even as elegant as it is. Joe Pass has some funk, too.

  • bro...that frickin' rocks dude...I wish I can play like that in my dreamz....

  • look how big the guitar is on him i think hes klike 7

  • sounds good i can picture myslef laying a chic onto my bed! shes takin gof her shirt. ahahah jp good stuff man

  • it was wonderful to listen at. keep up the good work.nice guitar you got there too

  • Yes Sir. It's not what you play, it's how. I salute you.

    ?;^)~

  • nice :) where can I find the music which play behind?

I ´d like to jam too but I dont have any players..

  • You got a great sound from your Epi Joe Pass...!

I see you have your pickup to bass, what else is there? amp?

I sold mine long ago, never knew it could sound that good with on the proper hands :)

  • oh i forgot to say you need to add some octaves at the middle and more towards the end to blend it out.

Keep up the good work. I'll buy your cd after a few more years when you can take us to heaven.

  • Its nice guitar work but to keep the audience in anticipation i think you need to let loose in the middle piece and at the end like george benson does to his guitar licks. overall i rate you as good playing and captivating however you need to take them to heaven and beyond with some really fast made licks in between and at teh end.

  • What amp and guitar do you use? nice smooth round sound.

  • F>>ing awesome,, that's sweet dude...

  • I like the playing its got alot of feeling.I like the intro to the song but after a while it felt like I was watching the weather channel.

  • You always have top notch sound quality on your videos, allowing listeners to get the full affect.

  • I could listen for hours!

  • Yea, shredding is over rated. Very nice.

  • About time I heard someone that doesn't thing speed is panacea. Great job.

  • great break from the shred very smooth very mellow need a cigar and some old Irish whiskey to listen to this

  • Call me, I'll produce you!
