Sadly, this classic song from 1973 - "Why Oh Why Oh Why (?) - was Gilbert O'Sullivan's final Top 10 hit single (to date, at any rate) in the United Kingdom.
However, many of his subequent single releases were of very high quality, and deserved to b major hits (and by 'major', I mean Top 10 at the very least).
As I have stated before, G.O'S. is a genuis (or something very close to it, at any rate). It is my firm belief that he is every bit as talented as Rod Stewart and Sir Elton John.
There is something simply divine in Ray O'Sullivan songs. A kind of magic many great songs do not have. I know Ray is a man but I always get the feeling the little boy in him is looking out at the world and saying "I do not get it, why are people hurting each other?. And I do not think any of us has the answer for him. So the best we can do is swoon and listen in and slowly slowly our hearts melt and the child in us holds the child in Ray by the hand. Sometimes skipping and sometimes crying.
I used to love the Wombles! For my 7th Birthday in 1974 I requested all Womble Birthday cards and I got them!! Then I complained I had no cards with 7 on them and my mother had a go at me.
evanswho - where did you get all these old TOTP performances from? Have they been released on DVD or were you extremely rich in the early 70s and have one of the first video recorders in the world? Great upload anyway.
Talent free zone this man. The worst ever, until Banarama came along.
