Is my baby turtle...the height of the water level in the tank is half the height of my turtle...is it ok? or must i add more water, but if i do that, the turtle would have to stretch its head upwards to breath
hey thanks for posting this video very nice set up , im kinda new on this just got a 10 gal aquarium (no hood ), filter, heater and bought a baby red slider and 3 goldfish feeders i set it up w some gravel adjust the water w the ph redctr the amonia and chlorine and the clear water but still gets kinda cloudy water do i need more equipment or maybe a hood . if anybody can help me i would appreciate .thanks
i have a question i have a 40 gallon breeder and i have one res turtle and for filters i have a reptifilter that is for 57 gallon tanks and a fluval 1plus wich is for 12 gallon tanks i use both and also i use turtle clean, i also do lots of cleaning but my water is never clean i can never see to the other side of the tank
i want a turtle! but first i need to sell my piranhas i think, but check my tank on my video and tell me how much gravel i need to buy, if i need a dock,if so where, any fake plants, more stones,or any information plz tell me i rly want a turtle! i have a fluval 206 filter that was expensive so i think i can keep the tank clean, plz tell me what turtle i can have, and look at my tank on my channel so it will be easyer for u to give me info, plz reply quick wanna sell my piranhas.
@TheFishKeeper100 - Theres no limit to how much gravel to have but avoid the regular pea-sized gravel as turtles might swallow it. Something bigger like river pebbles (that what I have) will be fine. Sand looks nice but is very hard to clean. Other than that you will need a basking area out of the water (you can use rocks etc or buy a self made floating turtle dock) & keep this area warm & also provide UVB rays with the right bulb or bulbs. Thats pretty much it. The rest is imagination & time.
@madturtlefan You probably have a younger turtle. Red eared sliders are more carnivorous as babies. Adult RES's will less likely attempt to go for a fish in the tank. It will have a more vegetarian diet older then when it was young. Hope this helps you now or in the future.
algae eating fish like plecos are great with turtles especially the small algae eaters because they help keep the turtles shell algae free. Cory catfish are great with turtles as well
All turtles are liable to eat your fish. Depending from species to species, even the smallest turtle might take a chunk out of the fins or skin of some of your even largest fish. Mixing them isn't a good idea unless you intend to use the fish (like tetra's or goldfish) as live food items.
Also, two red-eared sliders (or RES's) especially two males, can often turn very very violent against eachother and will need to be seperated. They also grow to like, a foot long.
get a musk turtle or map turtle make sure you always get MALE turtles. The females generally get bigger. If the turtles grow up with the fish they tend to make them their friends and become accustomed to eating commercial food
The fish don't really add to the cleanliness but having both turtles and fish together in the tank seems to have some advantages for each. I replace the filters as recommended for the brand i have, then also replace about 30% of the water every couple of weeks.
I originally got the fish as feeders for the turtles, but they just get along and the turtles leave the fish alone. There is an occasional nipped fin, but no serious damage. Actually I have to be sure the turtles are getting enough food, the fish grab everything put in the tank.
I already have updated since this video. Everyone is now at least twice as large and in a 40 gallon tank. I think I may need to upgrade at least once more before they are full grown.
@IKillCowsWithMusic I haven't been back to this video in a while, it's great to see it's so popular!
As a follow-up.. we built a 500 gallon outdoor pond for these guys about a year ago. They LOVE it! Both are healthy and happy. The female "Rick Bobby" has even laid eggs several times (although none have hatched). Some of the fish made the transition to the outdoor pond, including all of the little river skimmers which now number in the hundreds!
Just saying..
If you talked or added some music in the video wouldve been alot better.
