I always thought she was underappreciated - she's like a lullabye in the midst of a lot of hard-rockers that, unfortunatley, gets ignored despite the beauty of her melody.
Wow! I love this PG. The step sequence is something. Hopefully she could pull off something impressive like this for this coming olympic season. I really admire that she keeps challenging herself simply to be a better skater and that she can keep her within the competitive level at the age of 29!! in this figure skating world.
this is one of fumie's best programs. I love the dress and the music. so great that she skated so well at the olympics. I would have had her medal. She put together two clean programs.
Poster KRISTIRULESICE, the multiple-identity (hatula87, huetboy27, hairbrush81, etc.) TROLL and SPAMMER on Lipinski, Slutskaya, Kwan, Yamaguchi, and all other figure-skating videos, is the most obese, insecure, loose-and-smelliest vagina WHORE in the world!
Under today's rules that would indeed be preferable. However, back in 2006, to get a high level you needed to get into difficult positions, like catch-foot, Biellmman, donut, etc. I'm happy that the usage of those features has been limited, and instead it become possible to get a higher level by holding a position for more than 8 revolutions.
I think Fumie was cheated out of a medal in Turin. She skated clean in both her long and short. She should have had bronze and Irina should have been in 4th. But that was never going to happen.
The fact that you really believe she should have been 1st after the SP when the top 3 all beat her by 4-5 points shows just how out of touch with reality one must be to really think Kwan would have gold in Turin.
how is it delusional to think Kwan could have won. From her verification to put her on the olympic team, it was reported by members of the US Olympic committee that she had all level 3 and 4 elements. hit a clean long and short (something we've seen time and again from her), and she's your olympic champion. how is that out of touch with reality?
Kwan was way past her prime by 2006. She had her first "out of top 2" finish in 9 years at the 2004 Worlds then her first "out of top 3" finish in 10 years at the 2005 Worlds. She was going downhill and anyway with 2 eyes could see it. In the SP at the 2005 Worlds she had only one clean performance and was beaten by Slutskaya and Cohen with a couple substantial mistakes each in their SP. Who cares what the committee said, they are the same ones who said she was healthy for Turin remember.
guys please winning isn't everything. we know the american society has a problem with always wanting and needing to be on the winning team, and never remembering 2nd place... and in the olympics it seems everyone is like this not just americans, but you know what be the change you want to be. we should remember all the olympians, all the great performances, all the drama and perhaps corruption and other things, not just who won. in sport there are many losers and few winners, thats how it is.

ok no... the fact that she skated it cleanly doesnt mean she deserved first because sasha cohen skated cleanly to and her performance was a lot better than hers... no offence bur fumie's spirals are nothing compared to sasha's spirals and neather are her spins
Just because Sasha can flash the judges with her spirals by sticking her leg all the way up does not make her spirals better....Fumie's edges on her spirals were far more secure than Sasha's, Sasha's edges are choppy and sloppy! Tt was better choreography as well, IMO. You need to learn to spell, your comments look idiotic when you can't spell! Fumie should have at least medaled in these Olympics, two beautiful and clean performances while Sasha fell again and still got a silver??? GMAFB!
WELL SORRY if you think that... Im not saying shes bad... Im stating an OPPINION... understand that... im stating MY PERSONAL OPPINION... if yours is different fine I dont care if yours are different and im not going to comment you bak saying mean things like u because of what other people THINK!!! instead of fighting with someone on the internet why dont you write yout own comments on her skating and state YOUR OWN OPPINIONS and leave me the hell alone already...
Typical 16 yo defensive response, LMAO! You're just mad because someone actually doesn't think Sasha is God's gift to skating but a skater who never lived up to her potential and falls all the time....idiot!
first of all I dont think sasha is god's gift to skating becasue she falls a lot. there are so many better skaters than sasha and I admit that... Fumie should have gotten a silver medal and sasha should have gotten a bronze because she did fall twice and fumie didnt... Fumie's performance was beautiful and her jumps were of better cuality than sasha's... and im not mad im aggravated because some ignorant like you wont let people express there oppinions without a stupid fight over the internet
In skating there is something called the IT factor. Regardless what flaws you may or may not have in your skating, the IT factor is a must to be taken seriously as a potential winner and someone with strong odds to atleast medal. Kristi has it, Michelle has it, Irina has it, Sasha has it, Midori has it, Tara has it, Shizuka has it. Fumie never had it, and that is why it might seem at times she was shortchanged, like here in favor of faltering/ falling Irina and Sasha.
Well you are probably right on Tara. 97 and 98 was a weaker time in womens skating. Only Michelle and Tara were really good. Lu was never the same after 96, Bonaly was far past it, Irina and Maria were not as good as years after the Olympics. It was a two women race and Michelle was by far better when she was "on". So Tara won events by default with there being only 2 really good skaters at a weak time for womens skating, and so if the much stronger Michelle faltered she got the wins.
Sasha did better. Fumie's spins were lacking (her own fault - she could have got the levels higher), her Spirals are always lacking, and her Long Program had poor transitions and lacked fire (as usual for Fumie in the LP).

I have always been a fan of hers, and I do love this program, but the placements were correct, IMO.
She lost points on her Spiral Sequence, layback and combination spin.
MTVMANN 2 years ago
The tech points may have been fair, but I thought she deserved higher PCS. Should have been closer to the top 3.
Saphead 2 years ago 2
We can also use her as a gauge for how Michelle Kwan would have done. They do the same jumps, and MK would get higher points on the spiral and spins.

I agree, Sasha has the "splat" factor for falling on her ass all the time!

I don't agree about Tara though, she never had any IT factor, she won when Michelle let her win!

There's room for improvement on her layback spin. Looks like she took off the right edge on the lutz, which she deserves credit for.
