Wow. What a beautiful version of one of my favorite Fixx songs. I love the calmer and more nostalgic feel they've given the song with this arrangement, also, Cy's new way of singing it is wonderful.
Probably one of the most underrated bands ever. Licks and style-components still are heard massively nowadays ... but they, themselves, went nowhere except oblivion.
These guys are absolutely sublime live. If you care about music at all, see them when they come through your area, or take a road trip to go see them. They won't be touring forever, and life is short. This is one of the things everybody should see at least once.
I had the UB40 albums, and some of the Queen stuff. Catchy. But then The Fixx--oh my God, sweeping, brilliant albums of dead-serious poetry and the best melodies in all of pop or rock. A completely one of a kind experience. The Fixx on radio and in record stores were like your favorite literature beside guilty-pleasure comic books.
The Fixx...never sold out to the corporate hacks....never sold out football stadiums...can fill small clubs and play with such immense power that it blows away any of the competition who play the larger venues
If you ever see this Cy, you may remember me from Battersea, aswell as Sue from Talk of the Town. We are talking 1980. Dave Arden ate his words. Always glad to see and hear a success story. Stay good and well. Margarethe
The poly-rhythm of the guitar against the drums creates a a great vibe. A rare drum signature for the Fixx, and it's played on so innovatively, I love it.
WOW this gig must have totally ROCKED! The more songs I listen to on YouTube from this gig the better the gig seems to get. You just wanna get the Coruba Rum out and start pouring...on the rocks of course! One could even crack up a little wee hoota and 'pass the dutchie from the left had side'! THE FIXX are simply unique.
I still have the Phantoms album on cassette. Oh!, how I cherish it. I love this song. The Fixx is one of my all-time favorites. They deserve more recognition.
@Mijaseev Yeah I have Walkabout on cassette, Calm Animals and Reach The Beach also.I also have Ink on cassette. My Reach The Beach Cassette is so worn that the only way I notice the cassette is because I used a sharpie to write The Fixx and Reach The Beach on it. I`ve had this Phantoms cassette since 89 and Reach the Beach since 85 or 86.
I still don't understnd why this truly unique band never had ANY hit record in Europe. I mean, I'm fed up with Queen, UB40 and all the other sh** that's poored over us over and over again, as a matter of fact this continues
until this very day. I treasure all of The Fixxs' records, frisbeed the Queen/UB40 crap away into the sea the other day. If these records ever turn up somehere, you know who did it! And a big thank you to all those morons who run our radio stations and pollute the airwaves
@Leyland4321 I`m not that crazy about Queen either. I like a few songs but come on, it kinda gets boring. That`s just my opinion. The Fixx is awesome. Songs like this Reach the Beach,Liner,Precious Stone,Secret Seperation, Less Cities,Stand or Fall,Driven Out, World Weary,Saved by Zero,Running etc. etc. etc. I can go on forever. With queen four or five songs and thats it.
Yes, Rupert is brilliant. I love his playing style. It always seemed kinda dark and dreamy (to me anyway). I think he use to play in the minor key with some tensioners thrown in that were never quite resolved. I think he, Cy and Jamie really made The Fixx. Just my two cents.
Just saw them do this in Delaware on 8/02. First time I saw them do it live. I loved the arrangement they give it live. Mesmerizing in the beginning. Very good rock and roll band.
I was at this concert in vegas buy the pool what u missed was jamie west orem just plauing gutar really well they were in rare form on this night they sounded good put on a good concert did a meet a great after the show. I got to meet all of them and got there autographs. it was amasing though some of the younger kids in the audience that night did not know who they were and did not know that this was the original line up. i had so many pepole come up to me and say that the gutar player was to
