This is great, although I have to take issue with the interpretation of the chords during the "c'mon children" part. As the chords on that section are different from the "band out on a highway part, they don't repeat. The progression on that part based on absurd amounts of study on the passage turns up the chords A6, Bm7b5, A/C#, Eb dim. No disrespect to the poster intended, I'm just a stickler for details when it comes to passing along the language of music from the masters of it.
I saw the Dead twice and enjoyed them. It wasn't til years later when my guitar playing veered toward country and blues and I started listening to the Dead again.....then it hit me like a train!
yo jdarks...i love listenin to your style and learnin how to play some dead licks, especially this song which is my favorite dead song at the moment....
tho for future videos if you do make them...slow down and go through the tough riffs....i don't have a good enough ear to pick out jerry, haha
By the way, any idea what scales Jerry uses live over the A, Adim etc. part? Right before and after "come on children". I'm not sure of the right chords here so the improv over it is pretty jumbled to me when trying to pick His brain.
Hey darks, you can do the ripping part easily. I've got the Dick's Pick's Vol. 18 show on my mind for this because its my favorite version of MNS. Jerry and Bob both rip it here at the end. He uses the E in a D shape at the 14th fret, then uses the D7 shape, then for A use the A shape, and C the C shape. If you kind of syncopate the chopping or slow it down a bit you can pull off the lightning fast sound they have. When you do it just a little slower the average ear can't tell the difference.
Hey!, this is really complicated shit just like he said, and nobody does it as well as him, he is the real deal, he knows his shit and you better close your mouth because you dont
you cant make music by yourself thats a pretty subjective statement. Lightnin Hopkins, john lee, robert johnson lot of those stone blues guys made I would call "music". And I dont understand your take on being called a "deadHead." you play both sides of the fence when you say, you had to have seen a show to be called a deadhead and then you say its all about the music and your a deadhead Being a victim of time I prefer the later but what make you an authority?? And by calling your head dead
Thanks for the lesson pops. Next time Im speeding down the highway with a bottle of jack in my hand and the cops pull me over I'll just say, "Lighten up, man. Do it your way. It's all good." I just asked for your reasoning cause I value your answer your the one that made the comments.
1) I was saying that the best homespun "Dead" is played with a band that wants to play authentic Dead. And you cannot play "Music Never" by yourself. But you could get a looper!
2) I was trying to reflect the different views people have about "who is a deadhead" and convey: "Don't worry about it. Just Listen"
3) Nothing made me an authority. I was just talking to you.
Spring, What is wrong with you? Why take these things so seriously. Go elsewhere with your dumb shit. I was learning from my man Darks and having a good time when I read your dribble and now I'm pissed. This is a stress free environment you douche. You should shove that bottle of jack up your ass and leave J alone. You werent "just asking cause I value your opinion", You was trying to be an asshole. Mission accomplished.
I guess the driving with jack comment just rubbed me the wrong way. Sorry if my words were a little harsh. Friends of the dead shouldn't bicker. Never let the music stop!!
He meant you can improve as a musician and groove to music more, if you will playing with someone else. It doesn't mean that jamming alone fails to have its own advantages.
He's right man. I never saw Jerry and I'll never be a Dead Head, but I'll always love the Dead.
... I would have been a Dead Head. But I was... dead. At the time. In a way.
love that Alembic...I'd like to see some close ups, go over the entire guitar. Im dying to invest in one, but cannot find one locally to try out. Wish you were in chicago.!!!
AAaah,I was startin' 2 jones abit. Yea u'r right, there was no snobby hierarchy amongst deadheads.lol.You seem 2 be enjoying this as much as I'm sure many of us are!thanks for the "content"!

Hey is there any way you can tab Jerry's part out? If you have the time...
Or just break it down a bit more. I'm trying to learn, but its a bit tricky to see all that you're doing.

That was pretty badass my friend. Thats cool that you figured out how to play all those licks - did you learn by ear?
A long time playing no doubt.
Keep it commin' man
