  • Fantastic! I love the whole vibe of the video. Great lesson

  • Since im younger and was born after garcias dwath..would one furthur show make me a head

  • This is great, although I have to take issue with the interpretation of the chords during the "c'mon children" part. As the chords on that section are different from the "band out on a highway part, they don't repeat. The progression on that part based on absurd amounts of study on the passage turns up the chords A6, Bm7b5, A/C#, Eb dim. No disrespect to the poster intended, I'm just a stickler for details when it comes to passing along the language of music from the masters of it.

  • Great job

  • for bobbys solo performance of music never stopped search for "Bob Weir performs 'The Music Never Stopped' in support of TMNS"

  • Dude, just STFU and play the song already...

  • Get the audio from this video at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • I saw the Dead twice and enjoyed them. It wasn't til years later when my guitar playing veered toward country and blues and I started listening to the Dead again.....then it hit me like a train!

  • Is that Dennis Hopper!? Hell yea, the original cool!!!!!! Good man to rep the Dead!

  • Darks -- After revisiting this gem of a video, I realized how HIGH you seem during its filming....... Cheers!!!!!!

  • Being clueless... cough cough.. I appreciated this nice little lesson. Especially the spiel at the beginning. Thanks for bein groovy, man!

    peacee ;)

  • Cerified and bonified dead head...with papers ...and ID. LOL

  • thanks for the lesson

You were higher than a giraffe's ass :)

  • Hey thanks man! I'm figuring this one out for my band Jam Stampede's New years show, check it out....you may recognize some of the members!

  • yo jdarks...i love listenin to your style and learnin how to play some dead licks, especially this song which is my favorite dead song at the moment....

tho for future videos if you do make them...slow down and go through the tough riffs....i don't have a good enough ear to pick out jerry, haha

    peace and love

  • bla bla bla.. in germany we call it `` the horst !``

this must be real good pot he had, mainthing

is that he loves hisself. I don´t really.... maybe after havin the same stuff.

    love peace and happiness

  • germany?!?

    go invade another video

  • By the way, any idea what scales Jerry uses live over the A, Adim etc. part? Right before and after "come on children". I'm not sure of the right chords here so the improv over it is pretty jumbled to me when trying to pick His brain.

  • Hey darks, you can do the ripping part easily. I've got the Dick's Pick's Vol. 18 show on my mind for this because its my favorite version of MNS. Jerry and Bob both rip it here at the end. He uses the E in a D shape at the 14th fret, then uses the D7 shape, then for A use the A shape, and C the C shape. If you kind of syncopate the chopping or slow it down a bit you can pull off the lightning fast sound they have. When you do it just a little slower the average ear can't tell the difference.

  • sorry, that E's at the 16th fret I believe.

  • nice jay it's a great song being covered by a great man.keep the vid's posted

  • big storyteller...now we all what a deadhead is.

but the music sounds like a fatman in the bathtube..

  • Hey!, this is really complicated shit just like he said, and nobody does it as well as him, he is the real deal, he knows his shit and you better close your mouth because you dont

  • Great song, great band. Donna Jean would be proud of you, JDarks. Much love

  • this guy rocks "DEAD HEAD!!!"

  • that guitar sounds sweet.. what are you jammin on my friend?

  • pretty good buddy, love it

  • Hey is there any way you can tab Jerry's part out? If you have the time...

Or just break it down a bit more. I'm trying to learn, but its a bit tricky to see all that you're doing.

  • That was pretty badass my friend. Thats cool that you figured out how to play all those licks - did you learn by ear?

A long time playing no doubt.

    Keep it commin' man

  • you cant make music by yourself thats a pretty subjective statement. Lightnin Hopkins, john lee, robert johnson lot of those stone blues guys made I would call "music". And I dont understand your take on being called a "deadHead." you play both sides of the fence when you say, you had to have seen a show to be called a deadhead and then you say its all about the music and your a deadhead Being a victim of time I prefer the later but what make you an authority?? And by calling your head dead

  • Lighten up, man. Do it your way. It's all good.

  • Thanks for the lesson pops. Next time Im speeding down the highway with a bottle of jack in my hand and the cops pull me over I'll just say, "Lighten up, man. Do it your way. It's all good." I just asked for your reasoning cause I value your answer your the one that made the comments.

  • Sorry, I didn't get it the first time...

    1) I was saying that the best homespun "Dead" is played with a band that wants to play authentic Dead. And you cannot play "Music Never" by yourself. But you could get a looper!

    2) I was trying to reflect the different views people have about "who is a deadhead" and convey: "Don't worry about it. Just Listen"

    3) Nothing made me an authority. I was just talking to you.

    PS: "Pops" is my father.

  • Spring, What is wrong with you? Why take these things so seriously. Go elsewhere with your dumb shit. I was learning from my man Darks and having a good time when I read your dribble and now I'm pissed. This is a stress free environment you douche. You should shove that bottle of jack up your ass and leave J alone. You werent "just asking cause I value your opinion", You was trying to be an asshole. Mission accomplished.

  • You shouldn't let what other people say on youtube mess with you so much.

  • I guess the driving with jack comment just rubbed me the wrong way. Sorry if my words were a little harsh. Friends of the dead shouldn't bicker. Never let the music stop!!

  • You Sir, are an asshole.

  • I meant that to Spring41686

  • He meant you can improve as a musician and groove to music more, if you will playing with someone else. It doesn't mean that jamming alone fails to have its own advantages.

He's right man. I never saw Jerry and I'll never be a Dead Head, but I'll always love the Dead.

... I would have been a Dead Head. But I was... dead. At the time. In a way.

  • dude you must have smoked some serious pot before this vid darks

  • never really had this song down til i learned it from this video. thanks for what you are doing.

  • More old hippies definetly need to make videos-this is the coolest guy Ive seen on youtube.

  • take it easy on us man. jerry died before a lot of us were allowed to go to shows

  • well said, my friend, in great bands, the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts. PS:I love coming to your house to comp some licks.

  • love that Alembic...I'd like to see some close ups, go over the entire guitar. Im dying to invest in one, but cannot find one locally to try out. Wish you were in chicago.!!!

  • where in chicago you at?

  • it's not an alembic its a handmade resurection custom

  • Thanks...more content my man!

  • AAaah,I was startin' 2 jones abit. Yea u'r right, there was no snobby hierarchy amongst deadheads.lol.You seem 2 be enjoying this as much as I'm sure many of us are!thanks for the "content"!

  • I'm lovin' these videos. Very insiring. But, who the hell are you man?
