  • cette mise en scène a dessus en 92 je crois...

  • ha! nipples if you look closer 0:37

  • @wcladerman LMAO!

  • I really like the costuming and style..very Victorian like

  • Toujours aussi cucu. Voilà où passent nos subventions.

  • is this on dvd?

  • Natalie Dessay is the DOLL. After her, no other singer can convince in this role. She is a genius.

  • :35 is best part...achingly beautiful

  • :36 is best part... achingly beautiful

  • I love it when she does the robot moves in perfect sync with the music. :-)

  • I was there! And I thought to myself, "Where did this UFO come from"?

J'y étais! Et je me suis dit : "D'où vient cet OVNI"?

  • HHH

  • she kicks the ass of many, not only beacuse of her vocal skills and talent but also because of how she commands the stage.

  • Who did the costumes??

Is this prod on DVD, does anybody happen to know?

  • Very good.

Vera Trifanova`s Olympia here on youtube is very organic too

  • Hermosa...........

  • I would love to see the full version of this. She is amazing in this role.

  • OMG

  • i know that this type of singing takes years of training, but how on earth do you even begin to find out you have a voice that can do that?

  • Justement pour Dessay ça n'a pas pris tellement longtemps d'entraînement (puisqu'elle commence à étudier le chant en 1985 et qu'elle chante comme ça en 1990...), c'était naturel de chanter comme ça pour elle.

  • You go to a school with a teacher (or find one privately) that realizes that you have a voice that can do that, and hopefully that can teach you the necessary skills and technique to do so.

Talent and hard work together will give you the world. Talent helps you most when you're young. Hard work carries you into your career and through the later years when your talent and natural ability begin to wane.

  • @miacrow2 A lyric coloratura voice that has the clear high notes can handle this by grad school- although not with this level of expertise!

  • @suzanneetmoi NO!!! :) She is a Soprano Leggiero! ;) Coloratura ok.. NO LYRIC!!!!

  • @sebastien1chartry No, I must disagree with you. By definition, a "soprano leggiero" is a type of Lyric Coloratura, albeit one that may have a very slightly warmer "color" to it. The range of a leggiero is also LOWER than that of other coloraturas, peaking at an E6. Natalie is known to have a three octave range, ranging up to a G#6 (although she may not make use of it as often as she used to!). The role of Olympia, no matter where you look, is listed for a "lyric coloratura".

  • @miacrow2 Hi, if I may anwer your question: it only takes a good voice couch to guide with a good technique, that gets to know your voice and work it where it need to be worked. As finding out how a voice can do that I found out mine could when my teacher was going up the scale while vocalizing and I just was reaching the notes and higher and higher. But doing it right.

  • @miacrow2 Hahaaah. Good question. Just found out myself. Basically, you sing songs that aren't really in your range for years. Then finally you realize you should just bite the bullet and take lessons from a professional opera singer. She figures it out within the first two lessons and assigns you this song to learn. God only knows how long it takes until it's ready to be performed, though.

  • @miacrow2 By chance :P Apparently I have a voice that can sing that ridiculously high when I can't see what notes I'm singing(if I know what notes I'm singing I start to think about how difficult it must be to sing them and then can't, but if I can't see the piano and don't know exacly how hight it is, it becomes no problem for me O.o) I thought I had a mezzo-sopran voice when I started singing. ..

  • These earlier recording of dessary show a much more crystal clear sound than she has lately. It's easy to see how she gained fame so quickly. Magnificent high notes here.

  • Perfect!!!!

  • as far as the movements are concerned, i prefer dessay and sutherland

  • Dessay whata great is Natalie

  • MAGNIFIQUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow!!! excelent performance!!!! and awesome singing!!!! perfect high notes!!!! excelent... really gooood!

  • Wow!!! This is why people like her! I'd only heard her current stuff, and I didn't see what was *so* incredibly special about her that people were raving--but now I know. This is fantastic!!!

    ~Emily

  • wow, who could do it better?

  • Luciana Serra.

  • Beverly Sills

    Luciana Serra

    Ruth Welting

    Etcetera.

  • absolutely no one, she is perfect :)

  • that's kinda scary.. I do like the costuming and I love the machinery but I don't like the technique.. But that's just me personally.

  • Good lord, was that a high G? Astounding.

  • yes! she used to sing many high Gs with this role! :)))

  • Wow, she sounds so different!

  • of course she sounds different...she had a coupla of vocal fold surgeries. If she is still singing like that now, she'll no doubt beat my favorites of damrau, dame joan, and lucia popp...but she no longer has this bell-ness to her voice. her timbre now is so dark its black. i missed the previous dessay!

  • @karlleo I t5hought I was crazy when I noticed she sounds different here lol! She's still incredible here but that "bell-ness" was a gift from heaven... how old are all those videos when she had that angelic voice?

  • Thank you so much for this ! Do you have the entire song ?

  • I don't. I wish I did; all I have is this clip and the rehearsal footage.

  • so cute! I love how she turns her head and blinks at the end.

  • Yeah! She looks exactly like a doll when she does that.

  • what a doll
