ONE of if not THE greatest anime of the 1980s to be shown on European tv...LOVED it as a kid - it was so imaginative! In the episode with 'the seat of forgetfulness' theres an alien being who walks quietly in the background behind Ulysses...Im SURE that was the ONLY appearance of The Gods in their truest form...why else would the animators have included him....its a blink and you miss moment. My fave episode was 'the eternal punishment' - mans futile struggle against fate or Gods.
This was the spookiest episode of the series, I remember being creeped out by it but glued to the tv set and the strange ethereal synthesizer noises. I was only 5 years old when this series was on, the dead floating people moving backwards haunted my dreams for a few years. It's a shame that kids TV doesn't these days is all a bit safe.
The part that always haunted me in this episode was the tradgedy of Eurydice & Orpheus - the way he follows her up that column of light that never-ending escalator because he can't bear not to be with her.
They look great together, but they're doomed :(
I still find it touching. This cartoon illustrated that myth so better to me than reading the Greek Classics.
OH MY GOD!!! THIS IS IT!!! For YEARS I have had memories of this vague cartoon... and all I could ever remember was a blonde kid in blue clothes, a guy with long hair... and the scene with orpheus and his wife! AMAZING!

Rip ooooff! Frickn' hiding in space junk and flying through the giant closing jaws... Star Wars anyone? (unless Lucas ripped it off someone else too?)

Why the hell don't they make proper shows for kids like this any more? It's a total travesty. This was awesome.

Yeah they can animate but they can't write a decent story that could last an entire series.

The soundtrack is what stayed with me most of all though...the music in this series is just downright eerie/disturbing. In a good way.
