  • is the comet drive-in still in bizzness(sic)?

  • @jlf3882 Oh yeah...Memorial Day to labor day, plus sunday flea markets!

  • I was at the flea market at the Comet this morning!!7-17-11

  • i live in fleetwood

  • @DAN4279 When I lived in Cincinnati, I went to the Woodlawn Drive In on Ohio 4, and the Jolly Roger, which was off I-275 Near Montcellar (wrong spelling) Rd. That one only lasted about 7-8 years...

that was of course more than 40 years ago!

  • i love the comet!!! i literally live down the street and can walk to it..... and i grew up battling the sunday flea market crowds to just get out of Morrell.... i remember when it laid dormant for many years and someone thankfully took the time to bring it back... it's one of the few nice things we have left in fayette county!!

  • Good ole Connellsville.Ilove the Comet(:

  • Eight drive-ins! Lucky you. We've got nata here in the old retirement state of Florida!

  • Nice video. I drove by here last August during the day and stopped to take some pics and video. I live in Salem Oregon and we have two drive-in's nearby. The last two times I was actually turned away because it was sold out...nice to see them thriving ANYWHERE. Would love to have enough money to open one myself. I think they are on the verge of a comeback.

  • You all are so lucky! There's only one drive-in theater left in all of southeast Michigan that I know of, the Ford-Wyoming in Dearborn. All of the ones I remember from when I was a kid are now gone. The Gratiot, Bel-Air, Galaxy, and Mt. Clemens were all torn down between 1984 and 1995.

  • I can recall going to the Fort George Drive-In up in Southgate, Michigan, when I was six or seven years old. I still recall the movie that played that night - "A Boy Named Charlie Brown".

I wish I now had a drive-in theater here where I currently reside.

Still, this does bring back the memories. Thanks for posting, friend!

  • Going there again tonite!! We are so blessed with drive ins...and its a great drive in summer!

  • nice stop at the sign

  • I'm also from the one-time drive-in capital of Pittsburgh: We still have a great lineup of outdoor theaters, don't we? Comet, Evergreen, Malden, Brownsville, Skyview Twin, Hi-Way, Riverside, Dependable, Kane Road, Twin Hi-Way.

Qman, were you a member of the defunct Drive-In Theater (Fanatic) Fan Club like I was?

  • not a member but have been to all of these, and several that are defunct, as well as some from Cincinnati now defunct...

  • I was a member as well, and I really miss getting the magazine. I've made lots of friends because of the club.

  • :38 lol you rock man for taking the time to make a video about The Comet drive in. I have been going their since I was kid, love the flea market I think its still only a buck.

  • Was the Riverside Drive-In (Vandergrift) included in your eight-count?

  • Yes sir

  • 8 working drive in no way

  • we still have ONE left in north las vegas. 6 screens..used to have 4. FM sound, good concessions. Been there several times. Nevada never had a bunch to begin with. Looking online at the peak only 12 in the entire state. Most in reno or Vegas.

    dont forget the BEER!!

  • I use to live in Uniontown and boy is that place cold in the winter. I have been to that drive in as well. Thanks for posting this video. I love it.

  • I love drive in theaters. We have one near us, and we've been there a few times. Especially when I was little. Too bad people don't enjoy these anymore.

  • lol awsome! I go there all the time lol...I live in Connellsville, and my cousin/aunt/uncle live right beside the drive in, and some of them work there, so we somtimes get 2 go in 4 free...but barely ever -_- But luv the video, its so cool

  • Cute vid, I live in Dunbar and do there all the time.

  • The COMET is a true classic. The fact that it's a bit run down only adds to it's charm.

  • cool i live in uniontown i luv it hear but its not that great for skateboarders

  • The Comet,The Star-Lite,The Moon-Lite and The Evergreen. I went to all of them. Great memories!!!!!

  • yes we are in drive-in heaven. From the comet, there are another 6 more within a 25 mile radius--we are lucky these areas are somewhat poor and have not been over run with modern development--otherwise they would be all replaced with walmarts townhouses and Malls!

  • Thank you for the very pleasant video you posted. After years of being able to document dozens of drive in theatres for my Public Access (what else?) cable TV show OUTDOOR MOOVIES, I'm a bit "land locked" now and I don't envision too many road trips in my future. I'm an internet babie, just starting out, and, I must say, that videos like you just presented are priceless. I WAS in a car heading into the COMET drive in and I thank you for taking the time to post!

  • Great video added to my Drive In Playlist

  • Also,, ill be heading to the Mendon Drive In here in Mass. this spring. I'll film what it looks like and post it here on youtube. The Mendon Drive In had 1 screen when i went there in 1997, but they built a 2nd screen in 1999.

Ive been to Johnstown, PA in 2001 and i lived in Cumberland, MD for 5 months in 2003. It was so boring there that i had to move back here to Massachusetts, hehe

  • thanks for showing this video. I live in Massachusetts and i love drive ins. Theres only about 4 here that are open with one of them about 40 minutes from me. I always wondered what other drive ins looked like in other states that are still in operation. I hope the drive ins stick around for another 50 years.

    Thanks alot

  • The Comet is where I saw "The Night of the Living Dead". It was great because the towns in the movie were near to Connelsville.

  • WOOOO! COMET! YAAA!

  • OMG! My first job! Im one of the last that will have startd their working life here...

  • I'm from Uniontown but live in Detroit now.

Thanks for the nice hometown reminder!!

    Very cool.

  • The one in Latrobe PA is nicer. They have a nice flea market on Sundays in the summer. The Comet does too but the stuff is not as nice as Latrobe. Must be a Fayette county thing. The comet needs to invest in a weed eater.

  • We have a great drive in theater. The owners are getting up in age and wanting to sell. My fear is that it will be sold and torn down. Every weekend the lot was full. Owner told me the facility has a natural gas well.

  • I love the Drive-In. That is why I made the video. I know the lady who managed the comet for 34 years under the prior owner.

I hope maybe the Warrens would take a look at it. With the empty restaurant located right at the intersection, maybe it could be turned into a 50's curb service diner and Drive in.

    Also--its an old Trolley Stop!!!

  • Greenwood Indiana has a Dog n Suds that have tons of people during nice weather every weekend evening. Antique cars cruise by the Dog n Suds and some park their cars. We sometimes sit and just watch the old cars drive by. The drive in theater I was referring earlier is located near Shelbyville Indiana. Excellent location. Hope it is saved.

  • In a 10 mile distance from my house there is only 1. There is another drive in with the building, but no screen.
