  • song name pleaaaase D:!!!

  • Song name?? :D

  • John, u got it dead on buddy. This is the style that many club Dj's have always used and is very effective

In terms of talk over mixers, I've yet to see one return to normal volumes instantaneously and if your a precise, on time, dj, then that one half second- second return can be annoying

Manual is the way to go

  • fire em' out

  • never thought of EQing a dj mic lol good video

  • Not ashamed to admit it - I've too often tried to compete with the music, yelling into the mic, making it difficult for the crowd to understand. This is great advice that I'm going to put to good use at my gigs this weekend. Mic skills are often neglected by many DJs, myself included, but they are essential to becoming a well-rounded DJ... Thanks for breaking it down and helping a fellow DJ across the pond.

  • man, that sounds like what I do now when I do say something. Which is not often. Something else I need to work on.

  • 5 stars!

  • "and my cat has just had kittens" haha... Cool videos.. i like watching your videos...

  • half FTW

  • What microphone have you got there John?

  • John most mixers do have the talk over button with a mute regulator =] just somthing to look for on peoples next mixer choice!

  • Neat acid track there and good video. :)

For any laptop djs out there I'd consider sidechain filtering to automatically duck the music whenever you start talking.

  • If you would only stop treating it as if nobody knows anything you could reach a black audience: I could talk over a song (I prefer using an instrumental while doing so) or I could use the 'Talk Over' switch on the mixer. Stay tuned for Ear 2 da Street hip hop dj videos.

  • you should apologize in every f'n vid you talked BS* on. that was a really bad move, just to put yourself in the pic??? not even wothy to shame on you.

  • if you have an eq setting, you could drop 1 khz to 4 khz to make the voice cut through.

  • The times over the past 15 years when i have been to Clubs and its just too loud i can count on Many hands ! , Love real soul Jazz & 70's 80's Disco played through a good Hi - Fi in a night club, this rarely takes place in the is 21 st century also the times you cannot rognise the Dj over the mike let alone hear the music, its time Clubs colaborated with the Hi-Fi people, ie you & me to get the equipment set up correctly ! Lyndon Bolshaw BENH (hons ) Electronics Engineering

  • I love your response to this subject, but you took it even further: As of late I been bringing my Yamaha or Sony 900 watt receivers to close corner inside gigs, rather than my Peavey M-2600 power amp (I use that outdoors) The sound is beautifully balanced with using receivers. ok, I'm sure many djs would scream foul, but hip hop started with kids grabbing anything outta the house that'll increase the sound system. Surround sound at a dj party? Now that's one helluva tip.

  • luv ur vids mate! but wouldn it jus be easyer to use the talk over function on the mixer tha automaticly lowers the toon?

  • I see your comment was never answered. He does this all the time when he's being corrected.

  • oh c'mon... he's got 1300+ vids so he cannot look at every comment and answer it ...

    jonathan you rock =)

  • That comment was made 2 months ago, and I recently heard from him. He's a good teacher and I respect him. I ask that all his viewers please overlook my previous annoyance with him.

  • yes man he's trying to help all the new Dj's and even old that accept help. If you know so much that you can't get a counsel than get out of this world and leave the people who can learn from him and want to.

Jonathan you rock!! thanks for your help, something that not everyone wants to share...

  • Hey DJ DUMMY (djtavi77) if you're able to read my apology made to the DJ Tutor, then why would you say what you said? Where's the logic? If him and I cleared our differnces, months ago, where you come off trying to re-light a fire that been stomped out? Where's your logic? He helped me with a mixer problem I had, we're on good vibes, where you come from trying to attack me? Be careful going through life making ill statements at strangers. Now you apologize, dummy!

  • The most common mistake that DJs make on the mic is not getting the tone correct. Blokes have deeper voices so set the bass down a bit and you will get less distortion. Also don't skimp and buy a cheap mic. False economy. Also have a spare if someone wants to make an announcment and in this case it can be a cheaper model. Don't let them use yours ever.

  • to hi795ruby239, good valid points!! thanks

     johnathan

  • Hi Jon, i think you should do a vid telling people where to get their faulty equipment repaired. most people dont know that cdrs wear out cd player lasers.. and that they can get the lasers replaced if they send them to the maker (this usualy happens waay after the warranty). for some reason it just took longer to read my cds.. 2day it took 30mins befor i cud play something.. n it was skipping, id do 1 but not many would view it n i aint as good at explaining things by voice lol

  • Big John your the best man. You have helped me way more than those Qbert videos.(not putting Qbert down Watching you is like being in a private DJ School thanks a million !!!

  • "One way round the track and no head on bumping"

  • Is it possible that you change your equip every month?

On your previous videos were technics and the citronic mixer. then there were technics and this vestax (?) and now you got vestax decks.. :D

is there any sense in replacing your technics?

sorry for bad english by the way

  • Hi, the technics i had where over 10yrs old, still in good order , but i wanted to get new gear. I will buy technics again soon. johnathan

  • If I want to use the headphones as mic, do i just plug the headphone plug into the mic jack on the mixer?? Thank you.

  • jes , but make shure the mic vol is off first, then gradualy bring the vol up .

  • Yeah, I have an old gemini pro series 626 mixer. On this model it has a talkover button. The button reduces the music enough to speak on the mic. Great vid

  • I've always screamed in my mic when I talk over music.. HA! well not always. Great tute!

  • Tune playing in the background please?

    Artist/Title/Label.

  • I have not got the foggiest, i bought this yrs ago as a white lable, the only thing on it is a F . I honestly can't help any more, sorry johnathan

  • No worries.

Its across between Loose Caboose and Higher State of... with a funky drummer beat.

    Nice.

  • I would love to know who it's buy too.

  • i recognize the beat from one of fatboy slim's mix cds, 'on the floor at the boutique' - track called "forget it". dont know if the beat was originally created by him tho.

  • lol u sound like blondie rapping about the man from mars eating guitars.. or cars... or something
