I have to agree. Ellenberger did a lot of work on the ground in that fight. But yet when guys like Fitch are laying on a guy for 3 rounds, doing nothing, the refs don't do shit. Jake was doing a lot of work, elbows, punches and he has a bright future. Now 4-1 in the UFC. 25-5 overall and 16 knockouts. He is going to take a huge step up in his next fight. We'll see what he can do!

I also have to agree on the Condit fight. I think Jake won. But like you said, it was very close.

Ellenberger is a very impressive fighter. He's young, good looking and a complete bad ass. Jake has a great future in the UFC. Unfortunately he won't be fighting Fitch for a title shot but a title shot will be coming for him. I think a fight with Martin Kampman would be good for him. Ellenberger is a very well rounded fighter with good stand up, knock out power, good wrestling, and a solid chin. Right now I honestly believe this kid could give GSP a big run for his money

I completely agree. If he hadn't been damaging the guy, stand them on up. But just because he is in full guard does not mean that you can't hurt the guy.

WORLDTRAVELERMAN, I think you are wrong about the ref stading the fight up. The essence of mma is to finish the fight by sub, TKO, or KO and you should activiliy be trying to do that. Ellen Burger didn't even pass guard at all and didn't even attempt a sub. You can only do that for so long and im fine with that but after a while if you dont try to finish the fight by improving your position and just stay in the guys guard the FIGHT SHOULD BE STOOD UP. I feel very strongly about this and

I totally agree with you about the ref being annoying. I think it's his superiors that influence this. And thats because the dumb crowd automatically boos if they are on the ground for a little too long, and the superiors, who ever they are, don't want any booing. And stand up fights don't usually get booed. So hence the ref being forced to stand them back up. If the fans wanna be true fans, they should keep their mouth closed and enjoy MMA for what it was really meant to be.

I think the referee was listening to the crowd and thats why he stood the fighters up.

Usually Joe Rogan is pointing out if he thinks the ref should let them fight on the ground.

those kind of ref decisions is what kills the sport of MMA, let the fighters do what they got to do to win the fight even if that fight is a pure ground fight, who cares what the crowd wants!

keep the sport pure to the martial arts!

i agree with you about the reffing in this fight, but Herb Dean who was the referee is not normally this way... He is one of the 3 best referees in the business... he bothered Ellenberger a little bit this fight, but i didnt think he ruined anything... So we should let this go because he normally is an outstanding referee...

howards had a chance to capitilize on the standing game but he went too wild with his punches allowing ellenberger to duck and get the takedown. ellenberger did a GREAT job mixing his takedowns and striking. on the ground he had good GnP and stayed out of what could of been a john howard submission.

I think they should have a rematch before jake gets anywhere near a title shot, because that was a pretty good fight standing up, just imagine how the rematch would play out.
