Rydia is the best because she has little to no hp strong attacks that take forever to cast and weapons that suck unless you find the shop in the lunar ruins town for the assassin dagger :)

I'll sum this up irrefutably. It may take a few comments, but I'll do it.

Dark Knight Cecil is the fastest character in the game, but he trades speed in for everything else as a Paladin. His stats are comparable to Kain's on every level. However, it boils down to Cover/White vs Jump.

I see everyone bickering about damage and how jump sucks since it takes two turns. If you want to touch yourself to high numbers that's your business, but use your brain sometimes. Kain can effectively solo most bosses just by learning their patterns and jumping to avoid damage. Cecil shields allies from damage instead.

So, to sum it all up, Kain is useful, and good. Cecil is useful and good. There's no point in debating who is better. Hell, every character has amazing pros and cons! Well... Cid is kind of the exception since he has no real strengths to play to, but he makes a nice attacker when you have him.

So stop giving the thumbs down to each other's comments and acting like FFVII fans. I'd like to believe that FFIV fans are above that childishness.

In the actual gameplay, Cecil may be stronger than Kain, but storywise, Kain's the better fighter.

They comment more on Kain's strength (his Trial in the GBA version, and when he rejoins in the DS version), he nearly kills Cecil when they first fought, and in the Sealed Cave he knocked Cecil out with just a single punch.

Regardless, I'd say Kain has to be one of the coolest FF characters ever.

That's not right... Kain's Speed ist better - it's 41 on Cecils and 54 on his side when they are at level 70. And their strength isn't that different, it's 73 to 71 O.o

Even if you count the points together ther's not much of a difference.

Kain's regular attack is weak compared to Cecil's attack, his Jump gives him a double damage from his regular attack (not Cecil's attack) and Cecil's attack is a lot stronger than Kain's regular attack, get it? Kain's Jump takes like two turns to work and Cecil would get two attacks in for every one of Kain's Jumps. So all in all Cecil is much stronger than Kain as I said.

I don't really know if I get this right here - but I playefd FFIV for DS, and Kain was stronger than Cecil. Their attacks nearly took the same amount oh HP - with Kain dealing a little bit more damage - but Kain still was a little faster. Despite that, get Kain the Double Jump an it doesn't take him 2 rounds anymore to deal a damage of 9999...Oo"

Kain sucks in the late game, mainly because the Holy Spear is a peice of crap. But when Kain gets Abel's lance, he becomes better than Cecil, due to Auto-Tornado spam. Kain is probably the only character in FFIV that can solo the Lunar ruins.

Cecil would whoop Kain easily. That Golbez controlled Kain that fought Cecil in the game got a first attack, had unlimited HP, and the battle would just end even if Cecil had HP left. In a real battle Cecil would win because all his stats are better than Kain's and he hits a lot harder than Kain and he gets 2 attacks for every 1 Jump attack Kain does. Cecil is definately the strongest.

What you're forgetting is Jump does Double Damage, however jump with a Lance equipped then doubles again

So for every 2 attacks Cecil does Kain is effectively getting 4

If I remember correctly they fight one on one in the game once and Kain crushes Cecil and it is not even close. Late in the game Cecil is a pretty limited character. All he can really do is swing his sword, and it does less damage than Kain coming down headfirst with his spear.
